- aptiva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ever seen a closed source template?....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"How come half of these templates seem to be lifted directly from OSWD?"
They're not lifted. The users are members of both sites, and submit the designs to both. We don't add any designs ourself, the designers do that.
Yes, the ones on the homepage currently are pretty ugly. However, if you brose through the top rated and most downloaded charts you will find a LOT of nice designs. I recomend checking out the designers "JayKay", "andreas", "LanVacation", "Snop", and a few others. There are a lot of nice designs here, you just have to dig for them.
Josh - ch1ckster, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2I'd like it more if the designs under "W3C" would you know.... VALIDATE.
:D - theadvinci, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Where should I focus my attention on that page? Horrible for us web junkies.
- madnoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet! Great timing. Just when I am learning to design sites.
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not that pretty, but still appreciated. Look at the most popular designs, you could say some of them are "elegant".
- spyork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget the site that started it all...
http://www.oswd.org - rjsmith2007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, if you look at the highest rated ones, you'll find some pretty nice designs.
- LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great site.... but thought this would have been dugg before and plus now everyone is going to be useing the top templates.
- pohl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I totally digg this.
True, there is a lot of crap there, but there is some very good work there too! Moreover,
there are excellent tools for sorting the two from each other.
Don't miss the "Am I Design Or Not" link in the sidebar. It's similar to AmIHotOrNot,
except that you get the chance to rate the design. By doing so, the cream rises to
the top.
And there's some damned fine cream to be had there. This is cool! - jiminoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice find... I used to take great pride in my web designs, then I realized my strength is in programming not graphics so I've been using templates for the last few years. so much time saved :)
- robertgoodwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice resource. I digg it... and bookmark it!
- brandonb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is old news.

- dinsley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How come half of these templates seem to be lifted directly from OSWD?

I chuckled. d: - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Those are hideous designs."
That was my thought too. - liz4rd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2oswd.org is the real one....this is just a fork of OSWD
...and really the ***** one - RHEEK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I haven't seen one good design on this site. Gross, it's like geocities quality stuff. No digg.

- Miesj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good digg. I needed that. I'm not desing but need some, now and than.
- Panagiotis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorting these templates by download and checking the first one out (the most downloaded), you come with a copy of Microsoft's website (sans their logo). This fact alone, shows so much about this whole project; a repository of cheap (and mostly ugly) designs, probably made from developers, for developers. It's a paradox, though, that most developers in an open source type of "community" would prefer making their site look like... Microsoft's.
There are so many people that don't really mind about a good design. A ready template, like these, looks great compared to what they would have made themselves. These templates are nowhere close true design; a designer could make dozens of them in a minute. But in the end, attempts like this do not try and make the world a nicer place, but a dull, duplicated mediocre environment.
Admit it or not, design is an art. Few people are able to produce it; from the rest of the people, some of them are willing to pay for it (the ones who understand it's importance). The remaining, either go for a do-it-yourself solution, or... download a template. - spooksie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey Kevin Rose Dugg this, hope it gets on Diggnation.
- outbreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0helping to kill the design industry, one template at a time.
- SenyWD, on 02/26/2009, -0/+0nice http://www.free-css-layouts.com
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The idea is great, but the overal quality is *****.
- laa123, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0Well, the quality leaves much to be desired. I prefer templates membership. It allows downloading a bulk of professional web templates. These guys are pretty good, have a look - http://www.layoutspack.com/
- Sadia123, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0You can also share free templates from this site http://freetemplates.webdesigningcompany.net
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0some of those are terrible, but there are a few impressive ones in there if you order by highest rated - does anyone know of a similar website with higher quality standards?
- PlainJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love the template digg's for reference...but these templates were awful!
