- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -29/+482What a waste of such a good domain!
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -15/+282Think how much cooler "Ninja it" sounds than "Google it". I likey!
"Johnson! Ninja a few suppliers for our TPS cover sheets!" - blablaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+196Haha how the hell can they trademark "Ninja"?
I like it, but needs an "I'm feeling sneaky" button. - Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+146It's still better than pirate.com
- theblt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+113$10 for NMail invite
- gniess, on 10/12/2007, -1/+110It's only energy efficient for CRT monitors.
- digg-dugg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+101A black pixel uses more energy than a white pixel. An LCD monitor uses subtractive color -- a white pixel lets the backlight pass through, and a black pixel is using red green and blue to filter and blockout the backlight.
- huntRgathRR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67Sweet. Probably doesn't save any energy, but it can throw a katana at your search query and vanish into the night.
- S1ngular1ty1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63Does it come with a Ninja toolbar??
- blablaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+59It's not down. It's hiding, waiting for the right moment to strike.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50Does the ninja mail work by a ninja running through the tubes throwing the mail at your Computer Like throwing stars
if not I am not interested - thesparrowband, on 10/12/2007, -11/+52ctrl + option + Command + 8. Turn white google black.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38Don't discount the prevalence of CRTs.

Since it's down.... - rimco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36Actually, it takes more energy to make a black pixel on an LCD, because it has to block all of the light, which is why LCDs typically lag behind CRTs when it comes to black levels... actually, that's just what I was told once... I honestly have no clue ^_^
- rendereduseless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31now we can all ask a ninja
- MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Excuse me for my ignorance, but what's the point of a search engine that goes down with heavy traffic?
...the last time I asked Jeeves he didn't pass out on my couch due to a dugg overdose... - shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24It is rumored the universe will implode if you register the email address pirate@ninja.net.
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30The only ones who would use this would be techies, and techies generally don't click on AdSense ads. Sorry, Ninja. Nice try though.
P.S. There's a million better uses for that domain name, as someone mentioned earlier. - dcbebop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I don't much like the idea of this. On their results page:
"Google search results customized by Ninja using Google Co-op"
Um, why are we adding a middle processing agent again? I mean, google is a reputable name, who knows what ninja is going to be doing with the demographics and queries we're putting through here.
And from google's site: "Deliver specialized search results"? Can someone fill me in as to what Ninja is doing to regular google results that google isn't already doing.
It is a cool name though. How long has this guy been sitting on ninja.com?

Impressive, since 96. I wish I had picked up a few single word .com's back then. Oh well.

- gstuartj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Awesome. That's all I have to say. The question is whether the pirates will launch a competing search engine.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Isn't the backlight of my lcd on all the time and the crystals blocking the light when it shows black?????

- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I think you're right. The backlight in an LCD stays lit no matter what's on the screen.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wow, people still use Comic Sans MS? Amazing!
- gstuartj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Right. Because I really want to hear background music while I search. Takes me back to the Geocities days.
- jmac00x00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Someone should redo the Google Fight website with "Ninja Fight"

- marcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6LCD pixels flipped on or off does not use any significantly different amount of energy (I believe they use AC anyway to avoid damage to the ITO electrodes, so it's a moot point; besides, different LCD modules use either default-on or default-off polarization, so it's pretty random). With LCDs, you're going to use the same amount of power regardless of what's being displayed. The only difference is that a black pixel turns most of the energy to heat, while a light pixel lets it through as light (which will probably turn to heat anyway after hitting other surfaces).
CRTs are a different thing, although it might not be such a big difference either. Darker colors do reduce screen burn-in, but I'm not sure what the energy difference is.
OLED displays and the like would save a big % of their total power usage with something like this. - RandomHugs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5wtf
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey... how come no one is going "hey digg, ***** you!" digg is mostly white...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yes, let the stupid, failed "screen as a piece of paper" analogy DIE already.
- bluetytanium, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Ninjas are way cooler than pirates.
- giid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I want to ask Ninja why search results are different using it than using google itself.
- tiax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wild West Domains, eh?
Ninjas, Pirates, now Cowboys? - DJMD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It seems that the ninja's have allied with captain planet....
