- theysayjump, on 11/23/2007, -9/+350It's Detroit with the Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge.
- ChromaVita, on 11/23/2007, -44/+311FAKE.
- spin-docta, on 11/23/2007, -6/+238This is like that "I am Legend" movie.
- Coven, on 11/23/2007, -29/+216Here's my take, as a New Yorker. The image has some issues. Judging from the view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, the image is based in Brooklyn. The Empire State Building looks as though it is situated smack dab in the middle of downtown Brooklyn, when it really is supposed to be in Midtown Manhattan. The artwork is really well done, but it is going to confuse the hell out of anybody who knows the NYC skyline.
- Nightlie, on 11/23/2007, -4/+176pfft inaccurate...where are the apes? where are the human slaves?
- explodingtree, on 11/23/2007, -9/+178Pic! It must have happened!
- Ludnix, on 11/23/2007, -24/+159Thankfully the internet isn't composed solely of New Yorkers.
- svodka, on 11/23/2007, -8/+138Creepy. Awesome picture.
- RuthlessPirate, on 11/23/2007, -8/+117'What if Giuliani becomes President'
- cabal911, on 11/23/2007, -35/+124Cool pic. But I think what's really to happen is that NYC is to be mostly under water...
- TheLiberator, on 11/23/2007, -3/+74Oddly enough, the image is not of decay but growth.
- themastersb, on 11/23/2007, -2/+62It's 200 years after the Shanti Virus gets released
- edstate, on 11/23/2007, -8/+67I guess this would be after the other, non-global warming apocalypse...?
- whataboutdave, on 11/23/2007, -5/+63You mean New York city will be abandoned after being restored to 1930s specs, with time period cars and buildings?
- bennyboy371, on 11/23/2007, -1/+57I knew Peter Petrelli would screw this up somehow.
- b33b3s, on 11/23/2007, -4/+56"In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway."
- tehbored, on 11/23/2007, -2/+51Yeah, the reflections are all wrong.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -3/+48No, it's real. Seriously. Go down to NYC and check it out. Madness.
- pimpbot1979, on 11/23/2007, -10/+53Yup, that's pretty much how I remembered it.
- DonJohnTom, on 11/23/2007, -1/+44naaaa in Detroit the car would be on fire
- kefler, on 11/23/2007, -8/+50Agreed. I can tell by the pixels, and from having seen quite a few 'shops in my time.
- the1wraith, on 11/23/2007, -3/+37You should all read "The World Without Us" by Alan Weisman. It's a fantastic NY Times bestseller that discusses exactly that with a good portion on Manhattan itself.
While immediately fauna would reclaim NY city, it would be the water that would take it down. Manhattan sits on a marsh and its only the dilligent work of a bunch of very talented engineers that keeps the entire thing from collapsing, starting with Lexington Avenue. - hulez, on 11/23/2007, -2/+28It kinda makes me wish new york really did decay. Imagine exploring lush rainforest and sexy swamps and being surrounded by skyscrapers!!!!!
- Lrick1, on 11/23/2007, -4/+30Damn! I was going to post this on my blog... I might as well post this here now:
The author is a french artist called Francois Baranger, the picture is actually a painting made for a book cover called "***** Disparitus" (could be translated as "Missing Men")
You can find out more about this wonderful artist at http://www.francois-baranger.com/home.htm, he has done some pretty nice paintings and drawing for a lot of video games. movies, and comics. - thebrawl, on 11/23/2007, -2/+24Agreed. Everyone knows tall buildings don't lean over, they fall strait down into their own footprint.
- Sliver85, on 11/23/2007, -4/+26Madness? THIS IS SP..
I'll stop... sorry - scenerio, on 11/23/2007, -1/+22That is correct, especially considering that is what the author of the picture thought. The water pumps in the subway would stop pumping and Lexington Ave would fill with water.
- Baryn, on 11/23/2007, -4/+23You're a fool. Without pumping machinery running 24/7, New York would flood - right now!
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -0/+17Looks like Philadelphia to me.
- AshamedAmerican, on 11/23/2007, -7/+24You, sir, are a gifted storyteller.
- a0me, on 11/23/2007, -1/+17That whooshing sound you hear is the sound of the joke flying over your head.
- OrangeTide, on 11/23/2007, -0/+15sexy swamps? what kind of books have you been reading?
- AshamedAmerican, on 11/23/2007, -3/+18Actually it's a "rip off" (see: adaptation) of the book "I am Legend", a horror novel written in the freakin 50s! They simply moved it from LA to NY.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -2/+17As a Clevelander, I can say that part our of west side looks like that.
Neat pic though! - Namco, on 11/23/2007, -1/+15w00t, fight club
- lharrod, on 11/23/2007, -0/+14Every apocalyptic pic/show/movie must show a famous bridge destroyed. Must. This pic faithfully follows the cliche.
- DiscoJohn, on 11/23/2007, -26/+39this looks shooped
- chemam, on 11/23/2007, -4/+17funny, i did this ad a month ago for class i live in the city, my techer didn't like it tho haha
http://upload.imgspot.com/u/07/325/21/united03.jpg - skinrock, on 11/23/2007, -4/+17He'd blame this outcome on 9/11.
- Mikey9oo, on 11/23/2007, -6/+18If the ground is so cracked, wouldn't more windows be smashed out?
- Puppetfunk, on 11/23/2007, -1/+13Other than the fact that I Am Legend was written 50 years ago.
- affanjam, on 11/23/2007, -4/+16The pixels don't match and the shadows are all wrong.
- Koldkompress, on 11/23/2007, -1/+12you missed a perfectly good chance to refer to Bush as an ape/chimp! You missed it!
- HHP2K, on 11/23/2007, -2/+13Roots, my friend.
- tmattoneill, on 11/23/2007, -4/+15No way. I think he's got a good point. As someone familiar with the layout of NYC, it's actually kind of off putting. Fanelli cafe, which can see right there in the middle, is in Soho (final scene in "State of Grace") and that would make this picture in Soho, in which case the Brooklyn Bridge should be both not visible and on the right hand side, not the left. Aside from the geometry of the city, though, this is really well done and could be a promo for the new Will Smith flick.
- Koldkompress, on 11/23/2007, -0/+10who's to say that this version of the apocalypse involves translocating buildings, hmm?
- RobsaysHello, on 11/23/2007, -2/+12One of those appears to be a Ford from the late 60's or early 70's. Maybe an electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear war disabled every vehicle with electronic ignition.
- AdonalFoyle, on 11/23/2007, -1/+11or the aftermath of the "Cloverfield" movie
- antdude, on 11/23/2007, -2/+12Reminds me of Heroes.
