- roxics, on 10/10/2007, -1/+46That's a pretty sharp looking car if it's only 12 grand.
- epilonious, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33More importantly, under 1000KG. Hopefully with enough crumple zones and airbags to fend off any 4Runners or Sequoias.
- Kikkoman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30Can i do the gutter trick with this? and does it come with cup holders?
- skyer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+31Come on, that's NOT AE86
- Fritz6, on 10/23/2007, -5/+26great, more driftards recklessly careening down the public roads at night trying to impersonate their favorite fictional cartoon character... I can't wait
- Obsession88, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22I'd drive it.
- kasted, on 10/23/2007, -1/+19Yea seriously, it doesn't even have a hatchback. Looks like a scion tc
- SerifTheRobot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18A RWD TC is just what my doctor ordered.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Seriously. Tune that engine to do 250hp+ and you'd kill many cars out there with that weight/power ratio
- vuke69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Well no ***** captain obvious.
It is a new car in the spirit of the AE86. A cheap light FR drift monster. - BrandonMills, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Gonna get ya, Like a Spaceboy! Whoa whoa whoa whoa!
- wupike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14you must not play on xbox live or you'd be used to having 13 year olds beat the ***** out of you in video games already...
- KniteWulf, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14That power/weight ration would be insane. 1000kg is 1 tonne. The designer was instructed to keep it _under_ a tonne. At 120 BHP, that is already a lot of power for such a low weight.. I think 250 BHP would be a little excessive though. You'd go extremely fast, and you musn't forget downforce. It could lift off like that Mercedes race car tended to do.
- Tranced0nline, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10AE86 is a chassis code, so there can't really be another one, unless its the same exact one as they made in the 80's. That being said, this car looks pretty damn cool.. especially for that price.
- davAbran, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10since when did the TC have rwd you queer.
- tonaros, on 11/14/2007, -1/+9Hachi-Roku!!!
- tuxidomasx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9since AE86 refers to the engine model (4A), car model(corolla = E), and generation revision (generation 80, revision 6)... how can that possible be an AE86?
- fugeelama, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The back reminds me of my old Tercel, though the overall shape feels like a new Civic. Can anyone say "Celica Reborn"?
- manicallday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm thinking that saves me a lot of money for some awfully large turbos.
- tamahagane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7One word. Turbo.
- yourmightyruler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6And lighter. With a whole different, non-Toyota developed chassis.
- GhostFreeman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6RUNNING IN THE 90s
- nicpedersen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The point of the AE86 is not to "kill" other cars. AE86's are famous for being great drift cars, despite making much less horsepower than other mainstream drift cars.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9"Committee to create interesting cars"
That's funny. Even Toyota knows their cars are boring. - tnoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Its 1000kg or 2200 lbs.
- f201, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah and the NA Miata had less than 110. It's still one of the best cars ever made. HP is not important at all.
- rages4calm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Perhaps you meant the Trueno or if your a Initial D fan the Panda Trueno.
- Kikkoman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This model comes with Initial D Super Euro Mixes preinstalled and on a default totally seperate source.
- saltinekracka20, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Congrats for showing us a car in a JAPANESE auto mag. There are hundreds, probably thousands of car models that never make it over seas. Is there any reason that makes this one special? Please tell me if Im just missing something.
- crackedplastic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4AE86's came in coupe form also. But you're right - it looks like a Scion TC. I'm wondering if the comparison to the AE86 is merely Best Car's attempt at selling more magazines.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That being said, thanks for the elementary physics lesson. We all needed it.
- rjam710, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Here's hoping that this starts a trend of cheap RWD cars with other car manufacturers.
- spyraled, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5If they release this car with 120hp, under 1,000 kgs (about 2200lbs), and RWD, all for under $13,000, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't dominate the sport compact market. That's in Yaris, Accent, Daewoo range.
I'd be tempted to buy one just for autoX for that price. - XFDRaven, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Right, because soccer moms (who are more abundant) are such wonderful examples of good drivers. Oh and those guys with the DUIs? Yeah no where near as bad as drift tards. Lets just ignore the fact that the quotient of stupid teenagers doing stupid ***** has remained about the same over the last few decades so we have a scapegoat to vent against.
- nicpedersen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4uhh thats 1000kgs buddy. Its not a go cart.
- f201, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Holy ***** @ your camber
- zoltanx, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Nice car...120HP isn't so nice though
- montezumamike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Initial D style? Count me out then.
- strictnein, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'm thinking Hyundai Tiburon
- n0c0ntr0l, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If it makes it to the production stage AND has handling anything like the Trueno did it will sell like no tommorow. Heck I'll buy one for a first car. But it shouldn't be called an AE86.
- f201, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3Yeah, generally ride comfort isn't exactly the #1 concern for the kind of people who will buy a re-invented ae86.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Beat of the Rising Sun.
- bencefeher, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's the one thing wrong with my tC! Love that car, but I want rear-wheel drive. Can't wait for this new car to hit the market!
- solidwhitedevil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Back on the rocks.
- mt2k3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3(incoherent japanese words)...Panda Trueno.... (incoherent japanese words)
I would buy one :) - TTURabble, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i don't care if it looks like a scion or a toyota. Its cheap and I bet its HP/LB ratio makes it zoom. If its actually made out of quality parts (I want at least a decent interior) I might just have to trade up to one of these.
(it sorta goes along with the new styling by Toyota anyway, check out the curves on their other 08 models, it seems similar) - XFDRaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Is the damn thing going to be Rearwheel Drive, or are they just hoping it will be. Even if it comes from Subie I have my doubts. Toyota stopped making fun cars a while ago :(
- dmcbride6, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I was just thinking that. Looks like more of a scion than anything to me. Anyone ever been in a scion? you'd know why its only 12k.
- scyform, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yo we got start let's get move.
- aidenuncle48, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4straight to pics...
