- matthom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Aah! Comic Sans! That scared me, there.
The document itself could use some links, instead of just a straight scrolling downward, onto forever. - qsilentq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It uses tables to display information that is well suited to tables.
- rmulhern, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6you know its a good css guide when the page uses tables.
- meatbites, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ultimate is a word that shouldn't be used so lightly. That is far from ultimate.
For probably the most the definitive guide on CSS, see: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp - bigtabs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If this is the number one result for people who are searching for a CSS reference on Google and Yahoo, then why is it news to anyone here who would be interested in it?
- brashmandicoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Aah! Comic Sans!"
LOL, that was literally my exact reaction
... followed by "DIE!! DIE!! DIE!!" - firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've seen this on google numerous times by typing in "CSS cheatsheet." Pretty useful, but yeah, it needs a makeover...
- noahhendrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow technically they are using tables in the correct form.. To organize data, but I do see the irony of having all this CSS knowledge and then resorting to HTML when you want to present this data. I have to agree though that it can much more easier to code when you have nicely formatted table code that doesn't always look as good with divs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Anyone else notice this was served off his cable modem with no speed issue at all?

How old is this page?
It's talking about CSS2, in future tense. - brandonhines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't have any problem looking at my own shorthand because I *know* what's there. Looking at someone else's shorthand though -- it just takes longer. Guess it could just be me.
There was one CSS optimizer that made "the blog rounds" about a year ago that had 0% error for everyone that tried it. I don't remember the name though. Maybe a fellow digger knows? - bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There aren't any images on the whole page, but still, that's pretty impressive.
- Bogtha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1W3Schools is *not* related to the W3C. Quoted from a previous comment of mine:
W3Schools are sleazy. Teaching the wrong stuff, teaching Internet Explorer-only stuff, the (apparently intentional) confusion between them and the W3C, not testing their examples to see if they work, they even sell "diplomas" so you can con potential employers into thinking you know this stuff when you've just spent five minutes reading a tutorial on the web.
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/doron/archives/2005/05/w3schools.html - SilverGinger5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a useful site. I followed his link to the google search and I have to say I much prefer the one that is listed second there. It looks far far better in my opinion.
http://www.ilovejackdaniels.com/css/css-cheat-sheet/ - Cmain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you think Comic Sans is bad you should see the font that it is supposed to be(which you don't have). Great resource though.
- bassfanatik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lol, it's not actually Comic Sans, but the font they actually use is equally horrible, if not worse. Page needs a little bit of an update, though. This stuff is all over the net, though.
- inkus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Agreed. W3Schools has compiled a very thorough guide to CSS styles, properties, psuedo-classes, etc. as well as several other markup languages used daily by most web developers/designers. A far better and clearer reference than this "ultimate" guide.
And as an added bonus: no Comic Sans - The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1font-family: 'Snap ITC', 'Matura MT Script Capitals', 'Comic Sans MS', cursive;
I don't have the first two fonts, so i get Comic Sans. - JRMillion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually don't see comic sans because that is 3rd in the font-family.... I must have one of the first two fonts.
equally as bad however... :) - Bobwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why does the digg button look funny?
- Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is all pretty basic stuff. The neatest things about CSS 2.1 (not to mention the pure awesomeness of the upcoming CSS 3) aren't mentioned. Granted, the coolest stuff isn't supported by Internet Explorer. Once I can use CSS table displays, fully-stylable :before and :after pseudo-elements (and the oh-so-yummy CSS 3 pseudo-element model!), and the nifty CSS 3 selectors, I'll be a very happy man.
- rekka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not taking lectures on anything to do with 'style' from someone who uses comic sans.
- kobs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not a cable modem. It's RoadRunner/Bright Houses' web server for its user homepages.
- stilldavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you get used to it after a while; when I write out border I always use the shorthand because you usually want to be setting all the properties anyway. Plus, I don't know if I'd trust a CSS optimizer, though I have yet to try one.
- twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I get dissed while the "die die die" guy up there gets dugg. That poop joke was dynamite.
- vertino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree... that css cheat-sheet is a lot better!
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The most useful thing on there, at least to me is the box model thing. I always forget exactly how IE does width and how it's supposed to be done. I see the logic in IE's, but that's no excuse for causing web designers so much irritation and cries of "WHY DON'T THEY LINE UP?!" I don't think this page is as well organized as the w3c's CSS2 reference page ( http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_reference.asp ), but that might be just because I'm more used to it.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1awesomeness
- Hassassin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, it's old. But I guess it's worth a digg.
- antgoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4When I read the above comment, I fell out of my chair (figuratively) laughing.
Comic Sans sucks! - FlyingLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i dont see comic sans
mac tiger and firefox 1.5
cool! but that other font is pretty ugly too
can anyone post a screenshot of what the site looks like in comic sans? - facereplacer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Papyrus's overuse gets funnier. The mentality in selecting it has to be one where a novice designer is bored, working on a chiropractor's business cards, cycling through the fonts for the "right" one. It's got this odd appeal where they just stop like, "Yeah that's a good one."
KEEP LOOKING!
http://www.iheartpapyrus.com - DrColossos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice ressource.... pretty usefull
- madkinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.alvit.de/handbook/ has links to better references.
- brandonhines, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Shorthand CSS is hard to look at sometimes. It's better to write it out "normally" and then run it through one of the CSS optimizers floating around before uploading to the web to save on whitespace/bandwidth.
- Tarmas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You might be right. The guy is using capitalized letters for tags. And it's like sooo HTML 4...
But still, it's a good reference. Dugg. - barnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0using uppercase html tags is pretty awesome.
- twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That comic sans helped me break a month-long streak of bowel irritation!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2it's actually not that bad of a font... just extremely overused (like Papyrus)
- paroxsitic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I actually blurted out 'oh my god' and im not even from california
- wizgha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1+ Comic Sans = - Digg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1this sites good
- pyrix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Haha! talk about not eating your own dog food!
- kden, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"you know its a good css guide when the page uses tables." :: LAF
I'll take my css_cheat_sheet over that page. - tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1My eyes, MY EYES!
- bristolz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Snap.
- panic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3The only reason why I'm NOT digging this and why I will never use this page is because the page uses COMIC SANS. I mean, come on! Are you 12? If so then keep using comic sans.. but don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
What is Digg?
