its like I always say to the w3c freaks .....if 99.9999999999% of all web pages dont comply with w3c "standards", then its not a standard. IE still renders pages better on most sites, and is also the "standard" by numbers. Too bad they cant get the security thing right hehe. If they do on IE7 I will switch back in a heart beat. - mathew_bug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ peerk:
LMAO!
Nice one, made me laugh :D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1> Vista looks like a major improvement for the 90% of computer users using Windows, despite constant high-minded bashing by 2% about of the users.
No. Actually having run Vista, as opposed to speculating about it, I can tell you that it's SERIOUSLY resource-hungry, and runs like a slug on mogadon on most current hardware. It's also seriously buggy, but they might have fixed most of them by the time of the release.
It is NOT backwardly compatible with software as recent as Office 2003 - there's a whole heap of legacy applications that will have to be re-bought in new versions if you want to run this "operating system"!
The "new" TCP/IP stack is just another rip-off - looks suspiciously like BSD again (I've briefly seen some of the code), and doesn't add anything worthwhile.
> Only thing that bugs the crap outta me is the embedded DRM, although I'm sure there will be ways around it.
There probably won't be - the DRM is FUNDAMENTAL to the "operating system", so much so that your own documents will carry embedded tokens unique to you - anonymous e-mail, anyone?
This is just yet another of MS' attempts to sell more worthless garbage to gullible losers. The hardware manufacturers will be rubbing their hands with glee as these losers are "forced" to "upgrade" their boxes because Vista doesn't run properly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks good but thats about all you get
- juggernott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, and wannabe Mac?
Yeah, ok. Because Bill Gates thinks to himself, "you know I don't really like owning 95% of the computer market. It's obviously not working for us. I think we should just copy Apple and try to swing that other 5% of people who hate Microsoft just for the sake of hating Microsoft and can't figure out how to use a two button mouse". Like, get over yourselves. In the long run (besides the iPod), Apple will be nothing but a fart in the general direction of Microsoft. - bramkok, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1I don't like the look of that bigga start button.
- dadybeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i see. when is the vista release again?
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's just the background that's nice... just like with all the screenshots of Vista you see, its just the nice background
- Rizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, I'm just not real impressed with it. I watched the keynote speech Gates did at CES the other night and it just didn't do it for me. I see no reason to upgrade and buy all the things I need to buy so that I can do all the nice things that Vista can do. Its going to need a lot of processing power and RAM to run, unless of course they can optimize it to run faster and use less resources. But it looks like a major resource hog. i guess we'll see what happens.

- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vista really, seriously sucks at the moment.
So many dialog boxes... I want to kill myself...
WARNING: This program may EXECUTE CODE do you want to KILL YOURSELF because another dialog box will pop up in 15 seconds?

Oh and I am sure most of the "dorks" didn't check the errors until the page loaded crazy out of control skewed, like myself. (yes I am on Safari and sorry that Windows doesn't care enough to make a page that works in everything, that won't hurt their share of the market or anything.) - imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats up witgh all the black people in the ads? bill gates is so white micorsoft has to make up for it!

I agree...and what I really dont understand is. When all these Mac freaks cry about windows not having this or that, but then when Microsoft adds it they bitch about copying? Bottom line is when a much smaller user base uses your OS, you can take more chances. Microsoft has to be a lot more careful with changes simply because just about every company on the planet relies on it...I think that Vista is looking pretty slick, and imo much more refined then the childish looking OSX. I mean you mock the slightly large "start" button, but having HUGE lame animated icons all along the bottom of OSX is ok?!
To the others that say its just a face lift, well I may agree, but at the same time you brag about OSX when really its just a face lift of *nix (relatively speaking) SO by using your logic why not just use a flavor *nix for free, and drop all the lame candy that was put on top of it by Apple?
Sorry I just see too much mac insecurity every time a Microsoft story gets posted. But yet its ok for the insane amount of "this is why Macs are better than Windows" posts at dig.
This link has nothing at all to do with you mac users, yet you still feel compelled to make your hypocritical insecure comments in here.
I mean I understand that its hard to not be taken seriously cause you are using a mac...but that doesnt mean you have to try and defend yourself every single time someone talks about Microsoft. - urmothersmother, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bitch Bitch Bitch. But not one of you adolescent Apple or Linux retards can spell. By the way we sampled your DNA and it has lots of errors in it. Maybe you should switch to being a tree or, I know, a door knob. Yeah that's it. :-p Moving on. I digg the site. I like the features MS is showing off. It's about time they listened to what people want. I hope Apple and Windows become very competitive on the desktop. Linux, sorry you need to send that penguin back to the north pole. I was on that band wagon all through the 90's but Linux will never be practical for every day life.
- ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have to make my sites work in it's stupid internet explorer and can't they do the same to make it work in other browsers?!
- intelsucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My question is WHEN IS IT COMING OUT? And also, will it run my machine?
- camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap! 52 errors! Hope vista isn't the same as the site.
- shooby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0agh, I saw this last night...but didn't think it was "new and updated"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I own Windows boxes and OSX. You know I appreciate both technologies. Life is too short to just focus on one thing. I am technology agnostic. I'm a geek that's why i read these sites instead of waiting for press releases on my-favorite-os.com Don't be haters. Analyze the articles and if the content isn't something you're interested in don't digg it nad move on. jeez.
- dominowrecker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"theone3, you're an idiot and inexperienced if you think IE 7 is more compliant -- and by compliant I take it you're talking about web standards? IE 7 already announced they would be behind when the product ships; major bug fixes only, no updates to standards support otherwise... and while that is tied to the OS, and firefox is not, you've got a lot of explaining to tell me how in any way IE would be more secure than Firefox.
You mock everyone for selling the alternative, your arguement sounds like you're blindly whoring Microsoft products."
Again if W3C is the "standard", then how come just about every page on the web isnt fully compliant with it? However, just about every page on the internet works with IE. (little help for you here, that makes IE the standard) - bradyjfrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0theone3, you're an idiot and inexperienced if you think IE 7 is more compliant -- and by compliant I take it you're talking about web standards? Doesn't bother you that MS launched their two massive initiatives this week, Vista and Urge. Both of the sites promoting them are comprised of "Coming Soon" captions. Don't you think they could have at least finished those?
The giant is moving so slow. While Google and Apple are running. - KingOfNoPants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that woman in "for the office" scares me

I thought I was the only one who noticed this. It seems that they're catering to a different type of audience and assuming that only black people enjoy music. Or ... that blacks will use Windows Vista more than whites because it's more music oriented.
Thank God I'm half black! - penguindude15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The web page is slow and glitch. Not a good sign. Even though i am apple all the way, this is looking better than xp or me. Tiger is still easy-er and better
- scrapstyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works and looks fine in Firefox suprisingly. I see people want to copy this style and layout for their blogs, website, whatnot.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
greenline, your apple ifanboy is showing. Put that little thing away, junior.

I'm wondering what kind of dork you have to be to check websites for errors, and then actually post about it. I've been in IT and web development for 13 years, and I've never become THAT big of a dork.
lmao
Is it supposed to be some big surprise that a Microsoft page doesn't work right in Safari? Hell a bunch of them don't work in Firefox either. And the only reason us Devs "must" design sites to work in IE is because that's the wise thing to do if you want hits on your site. If Safari users ever make a noticeable dent on the internet, then maybe MS might bother to cater to your browser as well. Then again, maybe they will never give a rip. - vwnlinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No digg. Pretty first page, but with the Vista site not even coming close to standard's comliance, I'm wondering how many bugs it will have when it's released.
- copious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all you guys are dissing vista because it seems cool to be anti windows on the internet. truth is, when it comes out you will all be the first to grab a copy and install it on your brand new spanking pc specifically for vista.
- Greenline, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel better now sorry . . .
- Crazen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0give Linux a try, with the LiveCD there isn't much reason not to. The only people that might have difficulty moving to linux would be business people that are stuck living in a Microsoft Office World and a refusel of people to save the docs as rdf and admins that insist on exchange server
