- RoadDogTy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For all you n00bs... the site is functional. The link is to a tour of a functional site. http://expo.live.com/
- cabr1to, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5link to the actual SITE please, not flash marketing drivel. Yes thanks, I can make up my own mind about the site.
No digg. - sshack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't see a casual encounters section. -- It doesn't suit peoples real use of the interweb. This won't take off like craigslist has.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Was able to authenticate with my basic Passport and use gmail as my regististration account for the website. As a long time Craigslist user, I have to admit that I like this much more. One of the weaknesses with Craigslist is lack of registration for users and the ability to ban regular spammers. The passport requirement may make it more of a pain in the ass for those who spam classifieds. Thats my take so far. :)
- RoboPimp3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If Google were doing this you guys would be stumbling to your knees to fellate them.
Wait a minute, Google *is* doing this and you guys did fellate them. - rhizome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Microsoft Debuts Flash Animation of New Craigslist-copy Classifieds Site"
- rhizome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ha ha, as if craigslist is only popular because of how easy it is to use, quick to post, etc.
Microsoft tries to emulate the little guy, but sorry Gulliver! - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm getting tired of this "Microsoft LIVE" crap!
- hardcoreUFO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This isnt Craigslist. Do some reasearch. No digg.
- rstevens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most of you obviously do not like Microsoft. Neither do I--but I must admit that this is pretty slick and well-thought through. They are empowering people to sell to each other through a tool that many use--the MSN messenger.
- Kebie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If it doesn't have casual encounters where I can post nude pictures of myself, I am not using it.
- jedi55555, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I actually like this. I thought it was very straight forward.
- supersly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm. I wonder what'll happen to people posting used computer equipment with unlicensed or OEM OS installs...
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the reasons Craigslist is so great is because it's so simple. I don't think this will kill Craigslist at all.
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No apartment listings in all of NYC -- yeah, great job MS. I'll stick with craig's list.
- SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"but diluting the marketplace when someone has it cornered is bothersome to me"
Yeah for monopolies! - letmereplynow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More competition, its a good thing, im diggin' it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"... still laughing.
No one is going to use this."
You mean like MS Office
Xbox
Windows
Other than your immature hate for MS, can you provied a real reason why no one would use this.
How much you want to bet that if Apple did somthing like this you would be the first cheerleader for it? - tehbawb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, no digg because the link is to an advertisement for it...
- rndmculture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what an awful name... and what a bad interface.
- jetta421, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This isn't solely Craigslist. It is Windows Live, Microsoft's nex-gen all-encompasing site. They were using a Craigslist-like site as an example.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a lowsy tour. Post the story when you can actually use it.
- mitul0520, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What next.... Microsoft version of DIGG!!! OOOPS.. MSFT might be working on it...
- Hooger158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Viva la Craig!! This is more MS crap that I would never trust.
- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow there is actually stuff on it already...
- yman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember, competition is good for all.
Dont quickly bash it, like you linux addicts may do, understand that it increases competition which therefore will increase capabilities. - TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I agree with others that Craigslist's advantage is simplicity. This seems complicated and requires registration (msn passport). This bundling sucks. Nobody should be forced to use msn passport."
Bundling sucks? How can people say those sort of things considering that Google, yahoo, etc is doing the exact same things with their services. Video.google.com, base, personal web pages, blogger requires login.
Some of these comments are just plain lame.. Put the Microsoft name aside and comment on the service/features, not the company. Or at least back up your statements. - csimpkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"IT Systems for the entire United States yielded NINE results"
Are you seriously complaining about this? Go ahead and guess how many IT job listings Craigslist had in their first 12 hours online... - gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Very cool, hope they expand to Canada soon."
For a moment I read that as "Very cool, hope they buy Canada soon."
It's not impossible for them, I'm sure. - kkapoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool, hope they expand to Canada soon.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digitol
Its called a tour! Look at the URL. http://expo.live.com for the real site. and try reading before posting "phuk offf please!!!". - aptmunich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Music playing flash cr*p..
No digg. - llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Craigslists is better than this microsoft crap.
- thyratron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1An ad linked? Nothing associated with Craigslist? No Digg.
I resent use of the good craigslist name to promote a MS service.
Not everything MS does is bad.
But I'd never buy a watch from a drug dealer, even if I was sure it wasn't stolen.
MS has earned so much bad karma, I'll forever avoid them entirely when possible.
Policies and karma aside, Craigslist is incredibly clean. It's refreshing to visit a site that doesn't even use cookies. Simple and no BS, the way it should be. - nightsweat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1CLEARLY, the first ad has to be for OEM SOFTWARE CHEAP!!!!
MICROSOFT OFFICE - $39
WINDOWS THE XP - $15
You know, that sort of thing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like how they failed to list Richmond, VA
- jup619, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol..sshack you stole my comment!!, well, i guess you were first
- sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no, no, CL not going away. well organized, simple, extremely useful. this is a flash ad for something MS will pawn off to the hausfraus and Homers of the world. and the music is awful. a travesty. bah, humbug.
- touchdowns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At the very least the music to that slide show was awesome.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0guys its a beta. stop bitching and whining.
- oddball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0typical microsofty search, I searched for dogs and got 1 post for a room mate, 1 house for sale, 1 guy who wants to buy a car, 0 dogs.
- Anchoret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I can only hope they can control abuse better than CraigsList.
CL posts are mostly spam and abuse-of-service these days, and the rest are from idiots. - UbuntuAtlantis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh........ Digg because it is new, and it is technology news.
Not something the average user would use though is it? I mean, craigslist, ebay etc will still be way more popular than this thing for the same services. - Drizzit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why is it when something comes out M$ always has to do their version of it. I swear this company sufferes from CADD Corporate Attention Deficit Disorder.
- floorpie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL. the music's hilarious. Makes me feel so FUNKY... especially at the pause where it obviously restarts the loop.
- MrHomeValueCom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How very web 20 of them =)
- samfrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whats with the annoying as hell music?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how about an actual product.
- chevyorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"You mean like the products that the grand innovator Apple brought out yesterday?"
At least when Apple rolls out their version of something it is GOOD. - spinoza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most importantly, the actual site omits the "Casual Encounters" section.
Hopefully the sanitized Microsoft version will choke on its own vomit. If they want to do something useful, let them make an anonymous donation to Craiglist, rather than trying to draw away its customers.... -
