- digg it
- ZackDanger, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34Why didn't I think of this?
- xstnothing, on 10/12/2007, -44/+7The answer is simple. Just like you.
- shreveyboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32"Gravity seems to be working in three different directions simultaneously, but the picture shows a perfectly self-consistent physical scene"
I learned something new today. - R313453, on 10/12/2007, -53/+4Because it's fake. Look at the men. How are they standing upright while upside down without being attached to the lego?
- scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25http://www.andrewlipson.com/escher/relativity.html
- Blapto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@R313453
Glue, perhaps? - R313453, on 10/12/2007, -2/+69Using glue is cheating! Any REAL lego master knows that.
- JeroenA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20NO, they used SNOT. Read about it here: http://www.andrewlipson.com/escher/relativity.html#construction
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17LEGO David Bowie will be pleased.
- mp3dog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13That guy could make a pretty penny selling high resolution posters of this. I'd be first in line.
- WatsonFilms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, for people who might like this sort of thing, there's a whole community devoted to making animations with Lego bricks (mainly stop-motion, but there's also some 3D ones) at http://www.brickfilms.com. If you check the film directory, there are some very high-quality shorts to be seen.
- macbookpromat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Wow, this guy knows his snot.
- keyboardduder, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Dance magic dance!
- compaqnigg, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2I thought "MC Escher" was going to be a rapper. Now I'm disappointed.
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I couldn't imagine building that, it would take so long and would be so confusing!
- evoix9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bigger picture 1600x1405

I posted this last night and went to bed... good to see it get so many diggs ! thanks !
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+83Here's the original site.

Don't post images to Flickr without permission or attribution. Give credit where credit is due!- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Err, how do you know that that flickr page isn't made by the same person? Ask before accusing.
edit, just saw this:
"Can we use one of your pictures in our club/society/professional association newsletter/magazine/whatever?
Probably, provided my copyright is stated and you provide the URL of my website. Email me with details. Generally I appreciate being sent a copy or two of any printed material using my work. And beer doesn't hurt either... "
And now I agree with you. He probably stole it, and left the copyright status on the flickr page. not cool. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6This flickr account is going to receive a lot of hate-mail... The power of digg can NOT be denied.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32"The power of digg can NOT be denied."
Nor should it be abused; pick your battles. This guy did not mean to be on Digg, he meant to collect pictures he thought were cool. Give him a break. - SeanEB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2The description and title have been updated. It was just sloppy naming of an already famous image.
- ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6"This guy did not mean to be on Digg, he meant to collect pictures he thought were cool. Give him a break."
Yeah but posting pictures on Flickr that aren't yours is just lame, even if they're cool or not. - kurish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5but not nearly as lame as self-righteous internet dickwads
- Pulp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1That's impossible! Fake.
- fudged71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1[submitter]
*****... I just found this guy's flikr page, and I thought this was cool, so I posted.
why's everybody in my shiznat for posting a cool picture that got 3000+ diggs?
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Err, how do you know that that flickr page isn't made by the same person? Ask before accusing.
- clonerad, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Wait a second...THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE! FAKE!
- adamjbuckland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5take that people who thought it wasn't possible!!! :D
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2The LEGO image is slightly tilted to the left. That may help people who say it's impossible.
Wait, nevermind. I'm confused again. Photoshop trickery I say! - goodbeershow, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1superglue to the rescue!
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27What sorcery is this??
- diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6'es a witch!!
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19When did Lego start making four-dimensional blocks? Damn it's really come on since I were a bairn...
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26All blocks are four dimensional blocks. A three dimensional block would have to be an *instantaneous* block that has no dimension in time. Haven't you read H.G. Wells' classic, "the Time Machine"? ^_~
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Ok, five dimensional blocks. With knobs on.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Last time I checked... HG Wells wasn't a scientist or mathematician of any kind.
- kurish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3check again. he's been taking adult education classes in his spare time. nailed the ged a few weeks back.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a lie.
- kfconme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought he died.
- Lmptk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40The following sentence is true. The preceding sentence is false.
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Easy Philetas, don't die thinking about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philetas_of_Cos - R313453, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4The following sentence is true. Posting irrelevant things on Digg gets you buried.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Totally irrelevant. But as long as we are on this topic, here's a variant:
Plato: Socrates is a liar!
Socrates: Plato has spoken truly.
Or, in one-person form. . .
Epimenedes of Knosos in Crete: Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons. - snurfle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21... so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you!
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Or shorter yet:
This sentence is false. - duzbin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Due to the fact that this statement is abstract, and not referring to anything other than another statement, referring back to it's self, and hence to itself partially indirectly, it can neither be true or false.
If I saw, "the sky is blue, and I am lying", the statement can be broken up into two parts.
The first part is obviously the truth. The second part is that the first is not the truth, and therefore incorrect, and a lie.
If I just say, "I am lying" I am not referring to anything, other than the statement itself, and truth becomes irrelevant.
To just say "This is a lie", or even "This is the truth", without referring to another, relevant, statement is neither true or false. - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Now do it in LEGO. Or with lasers. Or make it run Linux
- kurish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3my cat's breath smells like cat food
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Easy Philetas, don't die thinking about it.
- angusware, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Erm, Glue?
- MeekoTheRaccoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The name of the piece is "Relativity". My Uncle has a copy hanging over the stairs at his house.
- MeekoTheRaccoon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0I would tell you more about the print, but I have to go rescue toby. It's nearly 13 o'clock already.
- kfconme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2oh yeah? I have it on a mouse pad.
- DigginTuesday, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2brilliant! Better than the original imo.
- DocGable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2cool, i just came back from hongkong and at the science museum there is a lego version of escher's 'ascending and descending' on display for the kids to learn about perspective, right now i'm sorry that i didn't took a picture of it
- Hrag, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2this is so 2006.
- ThirdPrize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Lego. Its wasted on kids. Now a lego Mandelbrot would be cool!
- Sajuk101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41"MC Escher that's my favourite MC"
- Misterm65, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2pretty cool there are a lot of other interesting pictures on that site too.
- nubnub, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1old
- eightballx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I think I'll call it crazy stairs...
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It makes my brain hurt just looking at that.
- Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At last, a believable quantum computer.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Dear Digg,
Please create a photos section.
Thank you,
profO.
P.S. Very cool picture :) - strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This really is awesome. I'm a big fan of Escher so this made my day.
- kaze1sd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Really nice picture. Thanks for the efforts Andrew!
http://www.andrewlipson.com/escher/relativity.html - neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I'm not sure we want to pay for a dimension we're not going to use."
- mcfly1204, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2M.C. Escher my ass, this looks like David Bowie walking around in Labyrinth.
- damselinadress6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2love MC Escher! I saw this site when it first came up. Nice to see it's getting more attention again.
- Shakawkaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is very well done, I like it a lot
- dirrtydirrty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1For my final computer animation project in college my group made a 3D animation of "Relativity." We used motion capture to animate the guys walking on the stairs, etc. Although everything looked good, in theory, the whole animation looked exactly what it was, a stupid college person's attempt at real animation.
- Zavod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Superb!
LEGO Corp: you sell it, I'll buy it. - DeFex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Thank you for not saying the noobish word "legos"
- brianc900, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Oh No! Did that hit crazy stairs?!?"
- TheMidnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if this was actually created at the angle of the painting or if it's laying parallel to the ground and the photo was taken from above. Still an impressive Lego model, to be sure, but nerds like me wonder about stuff like that.
- DenTPuzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This used to be my desktop image about 3 years ago.. cool pic!
- scootscr15, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i like legos
- toonarmy88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that started to hurt my eyes
- MitDralla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0http://digg.com/design/Other_uses_of_LED_s_not_just_for_ATHF_bomb_scares
- bioskope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is it just me or did that lego set just help me feel less confused when looking at the original pic?
- Negyxo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.lipson/escher/relativity_construction8.jpg
