- maximusGeek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I like my MINI the way it is :)
- RomulusX86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10It looks dreadful, way to screw up such a nice looking car.
- ShaneApex, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12So its big enough now for 2 midgets to have sex inside of it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I'm still confused as to why the regular mini is so god damn heavy.
- cyberdork, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10They shouldn't call it MINI anymore, considering it has the same wheelbase as a VW Polo and is even wider.
- orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The handling is amazing. I can take turns going 65mph. 0 - 60 in 5.7 sec stock. Lots of mods available. Very spacious inside. I'm 6'2 and I have to pull the seat up to reach pedals comfortably. Really nice and smooth transmission although the clutch is a little snappy but you get used to it fast. For such a small engine you get 192 lb/ft of torque & 172hp. Great gas mileage the S gets 37mpg and the Cooper 40mpg a lot of drivers though are reporting 45mpg.
- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6No, more of mini wagon
- GonadHunter, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6It is a BMW
- Jazzillion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Doesn't that defeat the purpose?
- abyssknight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5LONG MINI IS LONG.
- manicallday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm 6'4 and own one. I don't use the rear seat so I have more room in my Mini than most other cars.
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6would that technically be considered a mini mini-van
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4MINI's are as safe as any car on the road today, not to mention they're much less likeley to tip than anything else.... I know someone who was stopped at a light behind a big truck, when a van came up behind her at full speed and shortened the car by four feet. She walked away without a scratch, and now owns another MINI...
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The rear end is disgusting.
- dleifelohcs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ever hear of the H2 and H3? I present to you, mini hummers.
- orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3MINIs have a 5 star crash safety rating. In a 40mph crash test they did much better than a Ford F150 pickup.
- binnis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Well...it looks better than the four door Porsche!
- aidenuncle48, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Direct link to pics:
http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-mini-clubman/327745/ - whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Sort of defeats the purpose of being a mini in the first place.
- mace2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6as opposed to 1?
- rcran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3There was an original MINI clubman, and it was still small in comparison.
- metalmilitiaa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4There is no way in hell they can call that a mini clubman, ALL clubmans had the square fronts this should be renamed BASTARDS GIVING MINI A BAD NAME
- OdinEye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I agree with pretty much everything orxor says above, and will add one additional point - Volkswagon has just about the lowest reliability rating in the industry.
- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I wouldn't personally buy this because I only need two doors, but I could see a lot of parents and the like who need to carry passengers really digging this.
- BenTM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Had our floor model at work (I work at BMW) for a week. It's not that bad. It's a tad ugly in the arse though, but people will see past it.
- malliemcg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can thank the wonderful pedestrian protection laws in the EU for that :(
- P373Y, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2the hatch is crap. who wants two doors in the back
- Ultramagnus0001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You probably liked the Pontiac Aztec or that Chevy PT Cruiser look alike
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3They should just call it the oxymoron.
- gigablade77, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2YSSMAN, whether it be the illegitimate half cousin of a BMW, it's still bred by BMW, and that'll sell it either way.
- datamyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My next car...
- zdiggler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/images/articles/i1040/104070_00mg.jpg
- Valnar300, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And once again someone takes something that ISN'T broken and tries to fix it...
- gigablade77, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Honestly I don't know what they were thinking - it looks like a MINI brand hurse (sp?).
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty tall, and the normal MINI works very well - it has a lot of headroom front and rear, and the seats go backwards quite far to accomidate longer legs (at the expense of someone being able to sit behind you).
- orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I haven't test driven the rabbit or the clubman. However I assume it would be a similar comparison to the GTI and Cooper S, after driving both of those I bought the Cooper S even though the GTI was cheaper. I found the MINI to be more engaging, have better handling, more fun to drive, and it was possible to get a limited slip differential and a stiffer suspension, dealers were more pleasant to work with, they even installed after market parts for me and then there's the really great BMW warranty. Also the VW felt more like an appliance you'd use to get from A to B not something you'd really enjoy driving, I realize the last point is subjective but that's how most people who drive both of those cars feel. If however I was in the market for an automatic I'd probably go with the VW with it's DSG gearbox.
- kotatsu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2As if the 'mini' wasn't huge enough already...!
This car doesn't deserve to wear the mini badge, none of the new minis do. - leorcastillo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I almost bought a new Cooper S...until I got in one. With wife and child (x2), as much as I want to downsize from my gas guzzling V8 SAV and help old mother earth, I would have felt guilty looking into my kids' eyes in the rear view every time we took a longer-than-five-minute drive around the corner.
That is until the Clubman. I had to see it slammed and tinted to really help me consider: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leorcastillo/923677856/ - OdinEye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Mini is a car with a slick interior, German handling and fun factor (it's designed and built by BMW, after all), without the VW reliability downside.
I don't want the Toyota either, but I'm not sure how you fit that into the discussion - I'm saying I'd pass on the VW, particularly with two different Mini options available. - cgruber, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Hmm, so a guy driving a mini screams gay.. A guy driving this must scream gay but with adopted kids.
- leorcastillo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No pun intended
- GreatDrok, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree. These things should never have been called Mini (MINI is how they write the new ones, Mini is for the original) as they are massive. The early ones were OKish and sort of looked like a real Mini but they were bigger than the Mini outside and smaller on the inside. I have owned three Minis (a 1966 Austin Mini Super Seven, a 1976 Clubman 1100 and a 1990 Mini 30) and I could easily fit my 6'3 frame in all of them. I tried getting behind the wheel of this German thing and found I wouldn't be able to drive comfortably because the door meant I had no elbow room.
Oh, and this thing is a Traveller not a Clubman although there was a Clubman van but like all real Minis it had a lot of space inside and tonnes of charm. These new things just look like crap and weigh too much. Like Germans. - Micherik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2In my opinion, that is seriously insanly nice!
- Felekar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Is it just me, or is this almost as bad as making the a hummer that's small?
http://felekar.blogspot.com/ - YSSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've only seen one of the new MINI Coopers here in GR (the closest dealer is three hours away in Detroit), but I like the idea of the Clubman. Being a rather tall guy, it would be nice to have the extra room in the back, despite the fact that there are a few compromises in looks. But really, it does ask the question; Why wouldn't you just buy a $16K Volkswagen Rabbit Five-Door first?
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Amen. I've got a first generation MINI for one of my kids to drive to school, and I just saw it parked next to the new model. The new models have a much higher nose. They look like someone slapped MINI headlights on a VW Golf. Not that Golfs are bad, just that there is no need for a MINI that looks like one.
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you need to get to the back seat, for a few $k more, get a 3 series 4 door. BMW is blowing what was a great product line extension.
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Harsh!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1VW's still a great choice, they are pretty reliable for my 2005 model (granted, it IS a diesel). I'm one to say that I'd rather have a car with a slick interior, german handling and fun factor, and VW practicality then a boring ass toyota that lasts forever.
most people who have a moderate amount of money don't even keep their cars long enough for reliability to be an issue. It's also good to keep buying new cars on the premise of better emissions and fuel economy as time goes on. the old cars get recycled in some way (resold or scrapped) -
