- webtickle, on 11/15/2007, -0/+8Great article... but it is almost impossible to know what you are going to need for a shoot. Things happen unexpectedly and you have to adjust to them...
- falloutsyndrome, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4I'm going to digg this, agree with everyone, and hope that this will make it look like I know what I'm talking about when it comes to photography :]
::You've gained a skill! +1 SocialEngineering!!!:: - juice33, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4I'll have to give that a try. I can't tell you how many times I've shown up somewhere and the only shots are completely unoriginal and somewhat lame.
- bigthree, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3good article with useful tools....but if you are going to travel to shoot bring more than you think you need...don't want to fly half way around the world and not bring all your filters
- OfF3nSiV3, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3www.panoramio.com already does that
you can even view the photos on google earth - ggrav, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3Surfers have been using technology like this for years.
- rotten777, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I do this all the time when I go camping or even just scouting campgrounds. Works very well with state parks.
- gullevek, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Well, I think http://loc.alize.us/ is the better map for all the places where yahoo maps suck. For example Japan ...
- Billions, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1By definition, 'Location Scout' covers all of this already, it's just with 'added internet' here as an additional tool. I'm thinking Panaramio.com already did this, unless I'm missing something.
- soil, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I'm cracking up as I see this. I was JUST thinking about this kind of thing, not with flickr though, but with whirrl.com, use your blackberry, take a picture, tell someone else. Also, was thinking about how someone - with more coding skills than me - could make some mashup of whirrl's blackberry gps thingy and flickr. Or, maybe some way for people who are garage sale fiends (said in the nicest way) to tell each other what they're finding.
Technology is changing so quickly, I wonder what will be available "tomorrow!" - Ludwig, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1The map view is one of two major reasons I started using Flickr over Gallery. The other being that people would actually see my photos and be able to comment on them, since they'd already be registered.
- darny, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1My best shots have been taken on 2nd and 3rd visits of locations...
- JAKN, on 11/15/2007, -1/+1filters!? are you not shooting RAW? the only filters you should need are polarizing or IR. If packing those is a big hassle, you should rethink your gear
- Gen1, on 11/17/2007, -0/+0Vegeta what does the scouter say about this location?
"IT'S OVER 9000. ACRES."
I'm terribly sorry for this horrible joke. - cwkone, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0It's quite cool but not as something to be used to decide on equipment. Surely it is better for an amateur to turn up to a location and not have others creativity(or lack of) affecting their photography.
- cwkone, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0apologies for double post
