http://powazek.com/posts/534 - solid12345, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Yep you'd be surprised how many "designers" don't know the difference between CMYK and RGB.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4HAHAHAHA no way. most so called web designer's are nothing more than programmers and flash experts. Yeah yeah you can make cool stuff happen but that doesn't make you a designer. In reality most websites out there are poorly designed (in regards to print rules).... They are just highly functional interfaces. And like haydesigner said, you can't apply print rules to web and vice versa. Two different mediums.
These PDF mags have more in common with print magazines than anything found on the web. Web people usually can't do good print work and vice versa. - haydesigner, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Hardly.
Vastly different skill set. That does not mean a good web design not not be a good publication designer (yeah, that's the term, not PDF magazine designer). But very, very often if one is strong in one, they are weak in the other.
(as an aside, that is one of the reasons (not the only one, just one) that early web design usually stank, because too many print designer were trying to apply print design rules to the web... and they just don't work like that) - franklymister, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2They must have fixed it. It's spelled Wales now.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2those are the prob the same people that take those "design classes" at schools that advertise on daytime TV.
- Stonekeeper, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2"This Mag covers the design scene in Whales."
The magazines may be inspirational, but this editor spells like a 9 year old. - inactive, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1check out the latest edition of my faculty's student-run "The Onion"-like engineering newsletter - http://ess.ucalgary.ca/downloads/gag/2008_Issue_10 ... I get a good laugh from it often, and it is pretty well made
- ism70605, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1If PDFs are so bad then what do you use? PDFs are great at what they do. I use them all the time to make books.
- Ryan166, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Those PDF magazines were quite.... inspiring.

- gypsyjoe, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1PDF and inspirational - it's not often you see those two words in the same sentence.

Frankly Mister, try RTFA from which I was quoting directly. The hint that I was quoting directly is that I used speech marks, like these "This Mag covers the design scene in Whales". Now, that doesn't mean that *I* used "Whales" when I should have used the word "Wales", but the ARTICLE did.
I really hope that's not too difficult?
BTW, Parla Inglese? - Lazdude, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1It seems digital magazines are the wave of the future.
- franklymister, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2Whales?
I assume you mean Wales or Cymru, but get it right. - aaroninflash, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1silverlight is JUNK
- PaulOwen, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1"Naked Wales
This Mag covers the design scene in Whales. "
The design scene in Whales? That's got to be a joke. Not a very good one either. - haydesigner, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Any reason why, other than you were in it (which, sorry to say, holds very little interest for me)?
- retrolab, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Check out http://www.carbon8mag.com/issue/index.php too
