- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Many of them look like a template monster round up to me.
- onkelcommy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Nice collection! But if 60+ beautiful designs is not enough inspiration for you check out the largest design collection at http://www.screenalicio.us with more than 8900 screenshots.
- maheshee11, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12One word that describes them best: BEAUTIFUL
- Respec7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Worlds coming to a end...Microsoft's on that list
- PhilAirtime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I dislike this sort of website as it makes my attempts look rubbish and derivative. Grr.
- sancho320, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Most of these types of posts are usually garbage, but these are actually really nice. Very impressed, thanks!
- themechanism, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Really lovely stuff. Good to see css-driven standards compliance given some more props.
- NewChar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Me too, I think I'm going to downgrade.
- matude, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7I work as a designer and I think I see better every day..
Really nothing impressive and neither do they give me inspiration.. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The same can be said about at least 90% of IT support departments
- g00ee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If only they put the same effort into their software as their website.
- CarolynMittens, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3a lot of people disagree with you
- drgmdp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1bah... i thought it was about products.....
nothing new here................................... - smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1christ, does everyone who comes out of Art Center always have such bad taste? ok, i shouldn't say that, one of my ex's goes to art center and she is in fact a very talented designer, but please don't flaunt your art center degree at me in an attempt to sound authoritative on design.
only a small fraction of these layouts are suitable for blogs. and saying that these layouts just look like word press or drupal templates is like saying these layouts just look like blogs or website layouts. word press themes cover a huge assortment of different looks and styles, and those styles can be used on any kind of site not just blogs, similarly with drupal.
and css zen garden is an ok site. some of the layouts they showcase are good, but many of them aren't very good at all. in fact, smashing magazine typically has higher aesthetic standards than zen garden--much higher, actually. zen garden is the sort of site that you might look to for inspiration if you're just a hobbyist who likes to mess around with web design, but it's hardly a source for inspiration for professional level designs like smashing magazine is. - DOUBLEZER00, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I like seeing stuff like this because it's my field of interest and it's fun to look at other peoples works but I am tired of seeing generic css templates. Great, you can write basic CSS, way to go! Now either work on your graphic design skills and come up with designs that actually look good or toss CSS out the window and learn to program. Unless you are in the small percentage of web developers that can program and design equally well, focus on one thing and be good at it.
- darlyn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thanks.
- hadak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i think they left it off.
for a reason. - NerdyNinja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Then they suck too. :P
- thailand1972, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I'm usually moaning about the lack of usability and accessibility when these lists come up, but for once this IS a good list of practical designs (not saying all, but most).
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2then what do you consider a beautiful design?
if you're not a web or graphic designer then this clearly isn't meant for you. it seems like every time a link like this is submitted someone like you has to come along talking about how unimpressed they are.
smashing has very good editors and they put together great content for designers. comments like yours just convey ignorance about good design principles and are generally worthless. - OrangeyTang, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Some of those designs look like the ones you can but from TemplateMonster.
- winmac96, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1CSS...Beautiful...Freebies....Well...Beautiful ;) Thks!
- TastyLamp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I presume they've already been mentioned on that site before.
- peppino, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1It would be sweet if we could use their code. Anyone know of any good open source websites for selling product?
- Resilient, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Great list. I bookmarked quite a few of the sites in there for personal inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
- hadak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1anyone got a zip of all these? ^^
- ronaldpoi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't think their site is nice. That menu works just when it wants and looks creepy in different browsers...
- mesarah, on 01/10/2008, -0/+0Great collection
- macas, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm must say that site is good and indeed . Thanks
- DOUBLEZER00, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1As a matter of fact I am a web designer with an associates degree from the art institute. I also know quite a bit about CSS, validation and accessibility. I also never said they were bad designs, I'm just saying that they aren't anything special and look more like the default templates that come pre-installed with Word Press and Drupal. If you really want inspiration, go check out CSS Zen Garden, i'm sure you already know about that though. Don't be so quick to assume comments are expressed ignorance, an uneducated assumption is ignorance at its greatest.
- akh4x0r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Where's Apple?
- crossers, on 02/25/2008, -0/+0I think they look rather impressive. There is more material on http://www.rsschannelwriter.com and http://www.sitemapwriter.com
- Goosemaster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1aye
- MDrake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Like every site design these days is web2.0 based. Christ! Where are the unique sites?!!
- Garcya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0exactly 202 professional made psd logos available for download at http://Garcya.us/blog/202-free-psd-logos/ ! and you can find also free templates, updated daily and new templates added every day
- kukuhumi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0;p I think its a good article to read...I don't see any other reason to comment it in negative way...Keep on roling!!!!
- kukuhumi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0;P for me it is a good article...but nowdays people take everything seriously in design showcase...perhaps they think they had better things...
- crossers, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0intereseting, but real? I don't think so! maybe something is true, but not all!

http://www.chasr.org/ - crash128, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Pretty nice (disclaimer: I'm not a design pro, and am design-challenged). But, uh, let's be serious here - inspiration is just a fancy word for stealing (which in design is ok by me).
- Dardoush, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1where is my website :D
http://www.designrific.com - DOUBLEZER00, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I don't really see what's so 'beautiful' about them. They are nice, don't get me wrong but most of them are very simple and generic, they look more like basic Word Press templates than anything.
- kalyansagar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0nohin great! they just look like any other trashy templates. design is more idea communication based. and mind ya design is not decoration.
- fernt, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2meh
most if not all look like locked width - which is lazy coding. If you can't code a liquid layout, then all you are is a pixel pusher. - NerdyNinja, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I like CSS driven webpages, and a lot of these are nice.
But I'll never be able to support MS's website. I reported a bug in one of their forms that prevented me from downloading a free trial of something, and none of their support people were useful whatsoever. I gave explicit directions to the issue, explained exactly what was going wrong, and what as clear as possible about what, and where the error was. And they asked me where the error was. Twice. Site looks good, but the support behind it borders on stupefying. - Waskonator, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Wait. Where were the Elephants?
- ventro, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3I think stuff like this is getting old.
- JollyGoodfellow, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0I'm tired of Web 2.0.
- stronglikedan, on 10/11/2007, -11/+0Those designs ARE SUCK compared to minez!
