- Monkeyget, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31To put this in perspective: alcohol was and still is a rampant problem in Russia. Every year several thousands people die as a direct consequence to drinking.
It was so bad that in 1985 as part of the perestroïka, Gorbatchev decided to prohibit alcohol. It turned out to be a complete disaster for Russia as people turned to black market and would still get drunk but the government suddenly lost an aweful lot of money due to the lack taxes on alcholol. It put the whole country in debt. - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25It doesn't, it relates to design, which just happens to be the category it's in.

I'm glad you clarified that for us. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+33WTFRUG4Y?

The proper way to do it... - scinju, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21So what, you've been her about a day?
- kewagi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Monkeyget: Not only did the government lose a huge sum in tax income, a lot more people than usual died or were permanently disabled because of botched liquor. Compared to some of the stuff that was sold on the black market, even way into the ninteties because of the economic instability and the high inflation of the ruble, pure Russian vodka is a source of eternal life...
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16In 1988 I rode the train from Helsinki to Moscow (with a bunch of fellow exchange students). There were anti-alcohol signs all over and at the border we were given booklets about the evils of drinking yet nobody seemed to mind that me and my friends were passing around a half-gallon jug of vodka. In fact the porter(conductor? The "guy" in charge) in our car demanded the bottle. We gave it to him and followed him to his little office at the end of the car thinking we were busted. He filled a coffee mug with our stuff, chugged it down in one giant gulp, handed back the bottle and tossed us a bag of candy as "payment". We proceeded cash out the half-gallon with him joining in and had a blast all the way to Moscow (btw, a fifth of Stoli cost $1.25 in Russia back then!!!).

Hmm... Sure puts thing is perspective doesn't it. - metasin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8in brooklyn, new york beer gets you ***** and posting dumb comments on digg at four in the afternoon.
- comedianX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Could someone tell me why people are quoting Yakov Smirnoff all of sudden? Everytime I come to digg its like HBO in 1980's. "Digg: ... what a website!"
- skewh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Dugg because I was drinking a beer when I saw this.

a visual example of the problem at hand. - bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I must have missed something. Anyone mind explaining the whole soviet russia joke to me. Whenever I hear it, it remindes me of Dr. Nick Riviera from the simpsons.
- metasin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6WTF?!?!?!

- ThrillSeeker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If someone were to sell poster size versions of these, i'd buy a few..
- victorycig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone know where you can get high res versions of these?
- streborzil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3some of these are just begging to be rasturbated. (http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/)
- scinju, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Do a lot of these remind you of the iPod commercials?
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2First the man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man :(
- streborzil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2see the link i posted. make your own.
- metasin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3bashar:
search for and check out some old Yakov Smirnoff routines & you'll figure it out. - kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree. This looks more like a "beer is your friend" poster.
- HighlyRelevant, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Beer is stronger in Russia http://www.louisoneill.org
- victorycig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a useful and interesting tool, but the rasterization creates such large color dots for these small images that they would be quite unappealing at poster size.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is no more propoganda than those truth commercials we see everyday. Guess they lost the war on drugs.
- kevjaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1me thinks the internet is populated by many of the same geeks who wander around. frankly, i'm happy to see the slashdoters gettiing out once in a while. it shows there are nice people out there who will take them for walkies ^^
- Ruffian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Read below: "This new dress becomes me well, label says “juice: natural”"
- Kablakistan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the comparison of ipod to soviet advertising... the graphics certainly support the comparison. I often wonder about how soviet aesthetics seem to be the new exotic 'other' to borrow from.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In Societ Russia, Societ Russia _sucks_ and is completely corrupt. Do something about it!
- LowandSilent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree. I doubt they would just stick "design" under Technology just for the hell of it. This would more appropriately fit under something like "World and Business: Offbeat News" or "World and Business: World News" but apparently not since everyone buried me.
- ezcheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this gets a digg simply for the title.

- diggdong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanx, that was hillirious. I laughed and farted at the same time.

Russians have a strange habbit of putting all the letter symbols in the wrong place on their alphabet. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Reminds me of that infamous drunken miner video...
