- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+199That's remarkably similar to what my wedding pictures look like.
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+151Hehe, nice.
You should have gone with the goatse though... - optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+104HAHAHA I found another page affected by my change:
http://www.nwe.ufl.edu/~holtzman/one/foreshadowingelectracy.html
and here:
http://www.hail2pitt.org/blogs/index.php?blog=1&s=homosexual&sentence=AND&submit=Search
and 2/3rds down the page:
http://www.myspace.com/itsallcalypso
and i think the best is this one:
http://www.thestarlitecafe.com/poems/102/poem_8375386.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+82or maybe a photoshopped tubgirl wearing a veil and wedding dress.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -15/+89hey, thats my wife!
- jull1234, on 10/12/2007, -2/+71if only I could take this comment out of context and show it to all your friends...
- thejohnfloyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+69If they are going to steal content, why cant they at least save it and upload it to their own servers?
I beg of you, for the children... - optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+55Here is the original image:
http://www.gavinholt.com/images/lagunarocks2.jpg
That I had on this:
http://www.gavinholt.com/wedding_videography_orange_county.html - jwegan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Hey you get to get back at them for leeching bandwith by overloading their bandwith with the digg effect! Yay!
- philodox1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45I did this to a bunch of people on myspace stealing my bandwidth...
except I used something a little more vulgar. LemonParty.
VERY NOT SAFE FOR WORK.
http://www.partypeeps2000.com/members/gio013.aspx
http://myspace.com/68566388 (bottom of page)
There were about 10 others but they all changed it real quick.
A little mean, but insanely funny. - hellyes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Those are all hilarious. The myspace says "thats (sic) us" referring to that dog picture.
- johnham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Now that's what I call internet justice.
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39I think the LemonParty is more suitable for wedding pics.
- sliptech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33except that he's still hosting that picture, so he's experiencing digg leeching too (although the jpeg is probably a lot smaller than before).
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35just wondering? What did the original picture look like? seem alot of ppl like it :P
- jull1234, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Uhh, where was the unsafe content?
- optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+34Yeah and I found another leecher here:
http://www.myspace.com/wyatteagle
that was copying my myspace profile:
http://www.myspace.com/gavinholt
I was more forgiving for his horrible hack of my profile. Oh yeah, and I would have done TUB GIRL but I might get sued since I'm a wedding business too. - Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Oh Pshaw, judging by the quality of these sites, they're probably all ran by idiots that can't even comprehend the difference between cross-linking and hosting an image themselves. To them it's all on teh internets.
I'm perfectly content with them waking up tomorrow to discover their site has been "hacked" and call their hosting provider in a frothing mouth panicked rampage, only to be told that they're stupid. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Heh. Someone just gave a bandwidth leecher a big pagerank boost. Talk about backfire.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Then you'll get laughed out of court by an old computer illiterate judge.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I'm fond of using the whale ***** picture.
- jull1234, on 10/12/2007, -15/+38if you're gonna make fun of the mentally challenged, you could at least use the full word.
- optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Naw you don't understand. They were so dumb they used my original 640x480 image and shrunk it to 182x136 using the original image (i dunno why, such a waste of everything, including image quality). This web designer is a moron and stole it from me in the dumbest way possible. And they are in Virginia and that doesn't help me in California
- isemism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Well now they are going to get a hard lesson in bandwidth overage charges :D
- Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27If you're going to be a r-tard, the least you can do is cover your tail.
- ers35, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Yea, add goatse.
- Trunkmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Looks like they're stealing images from other Web sites as well. The image on http://www.mainstreetspa.com/pumice.htm was stolen from http://www.weloveskin.com/bacd-microdermabrasion.htm
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"and i think the best is this one:
http://www.thestarlitecafe.com/poems/102/poem_8375386.html"
I get a blank page. Did it get taken down? Does anyone know of a cached version? - Trunkmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20One more. The image on http://www.mainstreetspa.com/Powder%20Massage.htm was stolen from http://www.turnerhill.com/golf_spa.html according to Google Image Search (search for golf-spa-pic.jpg)
- Niten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Nice, but... what on earth is that thing?! <shudder>
My solution to my (in comparison, insignificant) leeching problem was a bit of mod_rewrite goodness:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^https?://([-a-z0-9]+\.)?markshroyer\.com [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpe?g|png|mov|mpe?g)$ - [F,NC,L]
Configured as such, Apache will refuse to serve a file with any of the given extensions unless the web browser says it's being requested for a page on my own domain. The downsides to this approach are that it requires Apache with mod_rewrite (I don't know what you happen to be running on that site), and that it would keep the tiny number of people whose browsers are configured not to report HTTP referrers from seeing any images on your page. - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19One time someone found my public upload area on this site I run just so my friends and I can send each other files...
Well anyway, they uploaded this and were using it on their MySpace page as their background...
http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?b09dcf5f8f.jpg
So I simply uploaded this right over it....
http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?e7399ab0ca.jpg - boelder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19If you run your own website, install the invaluable AWStats (awstats.sourceforge.net). If you're hosted, see if your host offers a similar service. Understanding where your traffic comes from (and who is hitting what on your site) is a good thing...
-b - dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18You might actually be mad at these people: http://www.lowtechweb.com/mainst/royal.htm
http://www.lowtechweb.com - The company that built http://www.mainstreetspa.com/
They are hotlinking other sites around the web as well. - karrth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17nice... i just realized people were leeching sound files from my server... now it forwards to static and high squeals. *sigh*
- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17im curently talking to a girl that hosts one of those sites. she said her inbox is full of flames from diggers and she dosent know whats going on. im pretty sure she has no idea what leeching is. i tried to explain
- orangekid13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15HOLY ***** THEY'RE LEECHING FROM AFRICAN-AMERICANBRIDES.COM NOW
THE IDIOTS STILL DON'T GET THE POINT... IF YOU'RE GOING TO INFRINGE ON A COPYRIGHT AT LEAST SAVE THE ***** PICTURE ON YOUR OWN SERVER - hannahmar, on 06/11/2009, -1/+16Hahahaha. I love the caption on the first one... "me and my mates". So classic. Good job
- optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15GUYS I GOT A CALL FROM VIRGINIA THIS MORNING. I told them to get a new web designer. I placed all the blame on the designer (which is true) and told them to make them pay for any BW charges (which they should) and that trying to bother or blame me is wrong (which it is). I explained to them that all I did was change a (copyrighted) image in "my house."
"It's not my fault if I change a picture on the wall in my house, and because of your bad web designer you can see that picture in Virginia."
The house analogy was necessary to explain this concept to them. I tried to explain Goatse to them (that it could be MUCH worse), but you wouldn't believe their response.
Me: "You know it could be much worse, like one of the images where you look at it and wish you could erase it from your memory, like the really really really bad images on the web. Have you ever seen one of those images, ya know?"
Her: "Yeah like that one of the dog."
WOW, that went over her head. Imagine if she saw tub girl....
So I told them I can't change the image until I get access to my server....kkkkmmmffff - optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I have the image on three pages:
http://www.gavinholt.com/
http://www.gavinholt.com/wedding_videography_orange_county.html
http://www.gavinholt.com/lagunabeachwedding.html (ignore the bad css styles, I haven't taken the time to update that page)
I changed the image name to: http://www.gavinholt.com/images/lagunarocks2.jpg on my pages way before putting that ugly thing on my business site - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yeah...tiny number.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I recommend the picture of that guy who painted his naked body with a Spider-Man outfit.
- ThugEsquire, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I'm just wondering which came first: the r-tard or the South Park ep?
- ThetaDot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This looks like a website which is run by somebody who probably doesn't know how bandwidth works. They probably won't understand why this is happening to them, or how you managed to do it. I say this because they probably bought a basic package, used a tutorial or template to make their site, and never draw enough traffic to even need to worry about bandwidth.
- optimus_maximus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12uh, my wedding website gets over 1/4 million hits a month (for wedding videography traffic, not from diggers or pron seekers). I don't even need to promote it cause I do only 2-3 weddings on month. With 600-700 unique visitors a day, just imagine that I get to pick and choose what clients I want (no bridezillas mind you) while still keeping my price fair. I love my job and business. It lets me digg at 1am without having to be in college!
Yeah I stole the dog, but I put it on my site. It is documented in a bunch of sites as the ugliest dog in the world. Type ugliest dog in google. - cianuro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13My god, this is brilliant! Especially on the Gay marriage site.
- aquax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10RIP for the ugly dog. I believe he died recently. He lived here in town somewhere.

Mike - superspak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10lmao @ the people who leeched the myspace picture, they cant delete their comments, only the person whose page it is can lol!!
- Aeplus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12If you're in a similar or complementary business as this site, why not place your site's URL and somekind of discount with a promotional code on the hotlinked picture? What you're doing now does not really help you. Think of it as another opportunity to get your site known at the cost of your bandwidth (something that is typically a fixed cost for most online businesses).
