- EvilBadger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gotta love the oil money!!! You should see all the other resorts and islands they are making in the middle of the ocean. This is what happens when you have a crown prince with way too much time and money. But i guess it cant be all that bad, Michael Jackson lives there.
- ashtonium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sea Lab 2021, here we come!
- cvelusc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I choose not to celebrate this "marvel" of a structure. No digg. Spend your vast amounts on something beneficial to your entire populace, not just those who are very wealthy.
- lukemit, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Cool, but I'd still rather stay at the good ol' fashion log home types - http://www.camp20cabins.com
- Rufunki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great, now Vegas has a new thing to strive for.
- Chaos12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Leet
- b0neman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does Dubai own everyone else? They've already got "The World" out there. Now this. These people are like Eddie Murphy, "Coming to America" rich. I think I'd like to hang out with the King and have a royal bath prepared for me thankyouverymuch.
- pixelwerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"pixelwerx, so it's link fight now ha?"
Fascinating... What, no Art Bell material to contribute?
Saddam Hussein chose to torture, murder, and oppress his country's citizens without any encouragement from the U.S. or anyone else, and even his closest neighbors said and did nothing.
And a link war would be unnecessary since I can use simple logic to prove the invalidity and lack of reasoning in your statements.
"Dubai should instead invest the money instead to keep the greedy and murderous hands of Americans off the oil of the Iraqi people! "
How exactly would Dubai do that? Is there some "no more greedy murderous Americans" fund that they can invest in? Besides, why would Dubai care? They are a wealthy emirate, much too busy building palm-shaped islands and catering to foreign investors. What is it that you're proposing they invest in?
"The oil in Iraq is for Iraqi people only!"
How many of these Iraqi people have ever benefited from the oil in Iraq? Only one that I can think of. Even while sitting on one of the most oil-rich parcels of land in the world, the former Iraqi government still managed to deny even the most fundamental necessities such as reliable electricity to most of it's citizens. The Iraqi people are far more likely to beneft from their oil now.
Of course, none of this really matters because the only "truth" you recognize is that which furthers your cause. Stop blaming the West for the problems in the Middle-East.
--Sorry for the off-topic post everyone. I'm done. - OZFive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Digg, Dubai while becoming a leader and inovator of tourist attractions. There is a mojor seedy underside to the country. Baiscly there is a labor class that are virtualy slaves to build all those fancy hotels and attractions. Then they lure and kidnap women from Russia to fill brothels for their sex industry.

It is a long article but it will shed some light on these slavery practices that people will turn a blind eye to, so they can have a good vacation.
I think this deserves it own Digg story to raise some more awareness. - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to split hairs or anything but Dubai is actually the capital of the country United Arab Emirates. After seeing the kind of structures and tourism they're producing, it's not surprising that they're more of a democratic state than Iraq could ever dream of being.
Now I just need to get some vacation time... I know where I'll be going. - sgtank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0vegas sucks who goes there?? to gamble?? dubai is way better search up dubai and see the pictures or actually got o it *****

- sgtank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0well i think it was better made the it and who said there should be only one underwater hotel in the whole universe of course its the same idea idiot they use "water" it should be the same
- sgtank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0you do u think that america is giving them the money?? wat the hell they got it themselves

- Duilen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's amazing. It kind of reminds me of the ice hotel in Holland I believe it is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg, but only because it's under construction. Seen enough of those concept drawing crap already.
- Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doh! I goofed on my earlier post. Abu Dhabi is the capital, not Dubai. Whoops.
Who cares anyway when you have a friggin Jaws 3 hotel come to life? - ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is this legit?
they spelled "story" "storey" on the right - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would suck if something went wrong.
- sgtank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0like you can afford that
- mikeanegus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anagoge, you're right. It is damn cheap. It so happens that they pay their workers a pittance. Dubai and the whole gulf is known for this. Oh and they also work all through the summer in 50 degree heat. See this page - http://www.mafiwasta.com/ - for what some people are trying to do about it...
- raptormn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats not true. I have been to Dubai. its not trashy. I was there over the summer. its a nice place and so is abu dhabi. The people there are very nice and welcoming. I would go back there anytime. although it is hot. ie 145 on day when i was there. hot.
- antigravit42, on 06/14/2009, -0/+0What dumb asses, Dubai != any US city, it is far beyond the trashy , unclean, poor drenched streets of NYC. Sure NYC may be the capitol of the world but possibly not for long. So ***** what if they have oil money, they aren't exploiting their money on a useless war. And on that oil money, most of their $$ comes from tourism, so get your math straight. rnOne thing i learned about living in another country then moving to the US is that everyone here is so single minded. Open your eyes, when was the last time you saw an underwater hotel? Dugg to death.
- akimbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is cool...rnrnHowever beneath the sparking paradise, a place that at first looks very clean. There lies dirt, exploitation, and slavery.rnrnReally that what this place is all about.
- xtr40rd1nary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are you people negative? is this a sign on jealousy or what? I say this is one challenging project and would wish nothing for it but success because this will not just boost the tourism and economy it would provide more jobs to the people, it would attract investors, would give a push to the engineers/ architects and designers all around the world, not to mention the advanced technology. now 300 million might sound fishy but i haven't read the facts and procedures yet so its not impossible to have a budget like that. thats if it is the real deal.
anyways about terrorism.. hmm i don't know why people assume Islam or Arabs to be terrorists. I think the only terrorists that would have a motive to destroy such structures would be the Israelis and the Americans. you can see some jealousy in their eyes and ofcaurse they wouldn't want the Arab world to advance and improve their economy.. emm thats something to think about, so lets hope that no bombs will be dropped on this beautiful structure.
i might go and sleep with the fishes there when it's done.
sorry for not writing this properly but i dint see the need to lol.. emm you all have a good one! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dubai is setting the mark for cities around the world.....
- habitue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap, they'll be fighting of Gungans in that place

Good night - spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice!! That would be so cool!!
But, ya, a guy with a stick of dynamite could like, waste the entire hotel in like, a matter of seconds. - MrGeneric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL, and soon the rest of the place will be under water too, thanks to the CO2 from their oil.
- ZMerlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ph3rny: Not everyone lives in America.
When talking about levels in buildings, Americans say/spell it "story".
Everyone else in the world says/spells it "storey".
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/dictionaries/english/data/d0082849.html - ah802, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all it takes is one suicide bomber and you get to use the word underwater twice.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you kidding me? This is the most stupid thing that I have ever heard of. Sooooo many things could go wrong with this. Sure, it's cool in theory, but there's just no way to make it totally safe.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4249223.stm - dxbmatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg cos Dubai is on the front page. PR machine for Dubai is on full speed at the moment because this was first announced in 2003, there was huge hype and then the funding for the project was pulled. Last Wednesday (just before our weekend over here), Property Weekly magazine ran an article on this as if it was new. I live in Dubai and to be honest nothing amazes me anymore about the construction, not even the 60 storey copy of Big Ben, which unfortunately will not chime as Dubai Municipality will not grant a licence for it to have a bell!!!
- pixelwerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Congratulations BeefandBeer! You are officially the least informed person I've encounter today.
Suggested reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam_hussein - khigy777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amazing that 30 years ago the place was nothing.... Now these guys are building some of the coolest places in the world! Sure wish I had summa that texas tea under my apartment!
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"But, ya, a guy with a stick of dynamite could like, waste the entire hotel in like, a matter of seconds."
Ya think they wouldn't a thought of that? With explosives easily attainable to most people, you could waste any hotel.
"I choose not to celebrate this "marvel" of a structure. No digg. Spend your vast amounts on something beneficial to your entire populace, not just those who are very wealthy."
Actually, it does benefit the whole populace of UAE. This is because their supply of oil will run out soon, so the government is trying to turn the nation into a tourist destination, generating revenue for the local economy, and keeping the coutry alive. - ted510, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0British English I think.
