- RogerStrong, on 05/15/2009, -0/+4That's a camera boom for inspecting the tiles on the sides and bottom of the shuttle. You can see a grapple fixture half-way down it for the Canadarm to grab onto.
The Shuttles (except for the last one, Endeavor) are designed to fly with TWO Canadarms - though none have done so. Which is why the boom likes like a Canadarm - they're using the 2nd Canadarm's location and hardware to transport it. - orlyfactor, on 05/15/2009, -1/+5Fail. Try 2001.

I'm Canadian, and I've lived in California and now in the Midwest and the average American is just as friendly and polite as the average Canadian. There are intolerant bigots in all countries, but the locals usually try to avoid those people too. For anyone to dislike someone just because they are American is ridiculous.

- BigT383, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1This is the last time in the foreseeable future that we'll have the capability to go up, chase down, grapple, and work on/upgrade a satellite. The last time there'll be anything other than ISS parts in the shuttle's payload bay. It's sad, in a way. Though I'm all for going back to the moon, I do think NASA is making a big mistake going back to capsules exclusively.

- inactive, on 05/15/2009, -3/+1Not much of an image problem, its just that other countries like Canada much more than the US. We are actually advised to wear some kinda of Canadian stuff on our clothes when going abroad.
