- YossarianDent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Do yourself and your computer a favor - get rid of windowblinds and pretend you never used it. It's a resource hog, and most of the themes are crap anyway.
If you must change Windows' appearance (not an unreasonable request, since I think we're all sick of the start button taking up the bottom left quarter of the screen), do a google search about patching uxtheme.dll, then go to deviantart.com and look through the themes posted there.
This has been a public service announcement brought to you by Windows Users Against Bloated Systems. - bobslaede, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17We really need more tutorials for the Gimp
- Determination, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10GimpShop by Plasticbugs.
http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294 - mgreenwald, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10What does it matter? It is just a recognizable source for that particular style of wallpaper. It doesn't matter if it came from Win95 or whatever.
- Cmain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I was just doing this tutorial yesterday. It is a nice effect. Not exactly theame as the OSX desktop but can easily be adapted for that result.
- TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Fyre will get you a similar effect with minimal effort, and it's open-source.
http://fyre.navi.cx/ - OriginalGamer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Except this doesn't look nearly as good as the OS X backgrounds, still a good tutorial I guess.
- dukem72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you are a Digg follower then you are probably aware that for sometime now Kevin Rose has tried to ease the masses into an eventual transition by saying that digg is going to accommodate other categories within the site which this post clearly doesn't need but.......
For those still unsure on where and what to post, the design category is an appropriate place to add information that enhances the site with more diversity in the case of this story.
I continue to post here because I really enjoy the site from sometime ago and therefore consider myself a loyal user despite the almost daily occurrence of comments like dupe, old, and not tech related.
Correct me if I am wrong but the text reads next to the radio buttons "Design" not "Design Tech related links only"
Just my two cents. - GeekedAtBirth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Try out the GimpShop.
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I definitely agree with the good-tutorials.com recommendation, but then I'm a little biased. ;)
- cBennett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The comment section (across all of digg) has become quite a harsh place. People just love to shut down other people, which I don't think is the point of the comment section. How about if you don't have anything constructive/nice to say, then don't say anything at all. I'm so tired of reading people complaining about how something isn't digg worthy or whatever. I don't care that you think you're too good for this article! You know who you are..............
- ruindpzzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3but i digg it for the creativity he came up with for imitating it. Good job.
- baldi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3may I suggest Bartelme's tutorial on how to create organic desktops, much more OSX goodness than this.
http://www.bartelme.at/article_detail.php?detail=38
still good tutorial tough - sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am never posting a great tutprial site here ever again. I mean, wow, you put something great up for an example, and the next thing you know, people are taking other parts of it and making it news. The whole thing gets diggsploded, and then soon enough not only are the tutorials pulled, but the poor webmasters bandwidth is rapidly exceeded and the site becomes inaccessible. I sure am glad I printed these before it got jumped.
- Fallout75, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I would rather know how web designers get those funky/floral seamless wallpaper tiles on their sites.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.cadtutor.net/dd/photo/seamless/seamless.html
There's a start for you. - jiub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1117
I believe these are all of the OSX wallpapers, most of them if not. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A worthy digg. I don't care if it's not technology related, really. It was useful and interesting.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not keen on that background, but the rest of his illustrator tutorials are brilliant. Digg just for the link to the site!
- coilx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sinedots

Free...Works on Gimp for you Penguin toters. - paulchu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2looks nothing like the apple osx backgrounds...
*hits f11 to check*
nope... lame - davesuede, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Glad you liked it!
I don't know the designer who owns the site, just wandered across it.
As a designer myself I thought it would be useful for others in the design community.
Regarding appropriateness, I think there is a strong place in digg.com/design for designers providing links to stories/articles of interest to further others in the community. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's exactly what I was noticing... This doesn't really look like a mac background.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3+Digg for the GimpShop link. I hadn't heard of that before. Thanks a lot!
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I tried it and it works (I tried it a few months ago, actually).
Used it in a school project:

- volcomjerk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I digg this very much. You can always use these tutorials and apply it to other projects to get the effect you want. This is something i've been wanting to do for awhile. Great tutorial.
- zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3nice tutorial!
- hollywoodone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does anyone know where I can get these mac osx wallpapers?
- nato64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is why I can't wait for Digg to separate into different things besides just technology :) There could be a whole thing on not-newsworth-but-cool-anyway
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I don't mean to be all negative but why are people posting photoshop esque tutorials on digg these days? Just go to http://www.good-tutorials.com/ or any similar tutorial site and you can surely find a good handfull of the same thing. No digg for me.
- jarrodtrainque, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3You're probably talking about squidfingers-style patterns:
http://www.squidfingers.com/patterns/
They're everywhere. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not trying to advertise.. but good-tutorials.com is a great site for this kind of thing.
I've always liked this type of background. However, I wouldn't call them "OSX style backgrounds." WinXP has this type of background too. - funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Looks good, but doesn't look as good.
- VStrider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'd prefer if he had used FOSS software instead of the expensive illustrator.
Inkscape has come a long way. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would love to see a Quartz animation based on the default OS X wallpaper. Imagine having that as a background using Xback or a similar program.
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1^ Those would be all of em 'cept the latest.
- planticus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1repost...
- ruindpzzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They're actually fractals. Designs made by complex mathematics formulas.
There are many many fractal programs out there, just do a search and you're on your way to some beautiful abstract shapes.
I often wondered if there was a certain significance to the numbers used to manipulate the shapes use as apple backgrounds though. - GeekedAtBirth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hmm... I like this, but I use fireworks. ;)
- LR2_, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Don't hate, I like this tutorial. This guy really planned this out really well if he was the submitter. He is going to get a ton of new traffic.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3i wish i knew. ..the end result looks like ***** anyhow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Looks like how Arch Linux did their desktop wallpaper for KDE.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1another lame tutorial to add to the others that have plagued digg lately.
- jpesicka2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2it's called mya, i've never tried to mak one of these but i will & then post a link to it
- dark_helmet, on 10/12/2007, -12/+8I hate how everyone thinks of them as OSX backgrounds. I first saw them before OSX was even released.
- acorn22, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3@To the guy above me:
Nice microsoft slam - gubbas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Cool!!! I'm going to run out and get Adobe Illustrator right now!!! Oh, er, it's like $500 so I guess I'll have to wait for someone to post one in a windowblinds theme on www.stardock.com. :D
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7Not really OSXish, but kewl tut nways. Digg.
