- chewbacca77, on 10/19/2007, -2/+49"In ancient cultures orange was used to heal the lungs"
I would love to know how that worked. - inv1ctus, on 10/16/2007, -3/+39My moms basement is dark.
- theshizzler, on 10/22/2007, -6/+40From the "article": (of Crimson) "Sitting for long periods of time in a room this color will likely breakdown any peace and harmony you are striving to create in your home. Ancient cultures used the color red to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation.
also: "In chromotherapy yellow was believed to stimulate the nerves and purify the body."
Certainly room color can affect mood, but backing it up with pseudoscientific claims of "energy levels", etc. undermines the legitimacy of anything they're saying on the subject. - nymphetamine, on 10/16/2007, -1/+28Her bedroom is a nice green color, though.
- vonskippy, on 10/22/2007, -2/+28Actually BLACK is the absence of ALL colors.
WHITE is the combination of every color. - slashbot, on 10/16/2007, -1/+27One need only watch the episode of Seinfeld with Kramer and the chicken restaurant to understand what red light can do to your mood :P
- MrNewbie, on 10/19/2007, -1/+19You're both right.
Tremor is using pigment-based color theory (subtractive), skippy, light-based (additive). - inactive, on 10/19/2007, -10/+24Just paint the walls black. That's every color mixed together, right? So you'll reap the benefits of everything!
- mmcvey, on 10/16/2007, -0/+13The locker room for the visiting football team at The University of Iowa's Kinnick Stadium has pink walls, lockers, benches, sinks, toilets, and even urinals. This was done because a former coach believed the color had a 'calming' effect on the opposing team's players.
- jmknsd, on 10/20/2007, -0/+12how do I paint my walls with light again?
- championchap, on 10/22/2007, -0/+11We all got tired of ***** your dad.
- liquisoft, on 10/20/2007, -0/+10Most people scoff at the idea, but color really does affect our moods. This is a primary reason why hospital rooms tend to focus on variations of the color green-blue and shades of bright white. The green-blue promotes rest and relaxation while white conveys feelings of cleanliness.
My bedroom color is a color called Spa Pool and the furniture in there is dark brown wood. It's very restful but also reacts really nice to the sunlight that comes in. - Mononuclear, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8Yes music, colors, food, smells, basically anything that can stimulate our senses can affect mood. This isn't some newly discovered phenomena. Movies have been using music and colors for a long time to set certain moods.
- Devin, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8One might argue that your desire to bury the article is proof that red does create hostility.
- mahdaeng, on 10/22/2007, -0/+8Are you, by chance, sitting in a red room right now?
- Jugalator, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7It's not pseudoscience, but color psychology is a relatively new discipline and seriously studied. Yes yes, I know it's a bit similar to Feng Shui etc, but I believe there could be an evolutionary basis for this. E.g. red is also the color of fire and blood. Anyway, here's just one example of a scientific paper: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retri ...
- KingBunny, on 10/20/2007, -0/+7I will definitely put more thought into what colour to paint my room/office next time.. "blood red" seemed like a good idea at the time.. and it makes my swords look cooler.. but really, it feels like I'm in a small cave.. an ANGRY cave!
- moofer, on 10/20/2007, -1/+6The white background here in digg makes me wanna start punching faces!
- Otto, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6Use a keyboard instead.
HOMEROWED! - kamikaze87, on 10/16/2007, -0/+5I live in the white room, with black curtains near the station.
- Varadinumdotcom, on 10/16/2007, -7/+11My room is blue :)
- Velnich, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4The same way a placebo would.
- ddorent, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4why is this in technology?
- kmccormi, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4One time in high school, for community service, I had to paint the entire exterior of a building sunshine yellow. After about half an hour, I started to feel irrationally furious. Now I know it wasn't that irrational.
- inactive, on 10/16/2007, -0/+4So, um, basically you're an 8 year old??
- inactive, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3I live in an unfinished baseme....errr my room color is like...nothing matches.
- hdante, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3"Red raises a room’s energy level."
Yeah, right. I'll just finish painting the ceiling with red, so that it will generate around 65W to power my notebook. ;-) - lagrange, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Why commit to one color? Just paint everything white and wear tinted lenses in whatever color you feel like getting down with.
- MicrosoftBob, on 10/16/2007, -0/+3Behind the green *door*.
- probrian, on 10/16/2007, -2/+5me too...as i'm smoking a cigarette :)
- Sozzi, on 10/20/2007, -0/+3i actually did a science project on this that said you do a better job on simple arithmetic when using blue paper as opposed to yellow or bright orange.
- CosmicJustice, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4Not when you're mixing paints or inks. Paint colors are subtractive, colored light is additive.
- msgyrd, on 10/20/2007, -1/+3Real life 40 year old virgin.
- BadseedJR, on 10/16/2007, -1/+3"They say tope is very soothing."
- inactive, on 10/20/2007, -1/+3Words taken right out of my mouth!
- 0crabby0, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2White-walled rooms make you horny...
- resplence, on 10/20/2007, -1/+3Ever been to a concert?
- mrmacky, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2Color doesn't affect my mood, I can't see anything in my mom's basement.
However, I wonder if the "20 year-old, now creamy beige but used to be white" walls have anything to do with me hating tests. - emblemparade, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2What a load of crap. At least this wasn't posted under "science."
- supaklaw, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2Note to self, don't pick crimson for Halo 3 armor color.
- ianweller, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2that would be fun to do a study on.
- timusca, on 10/16/2007, -2/+4Taupe. I'm gayer than I thought for knowing that.
- FortyCaliber, on 10/16/2007, -0/+2My Office is a warm shade of red and I feel fine, so ***** YOU, it's buried.
I have a yellow wall too. I'm sorry.
Dugg. - sphykik, on 10/16/2007, -1/+3I have never understood why these concepts aren't applied in more places. Go into a kindergarten classroom; they are usually yellow, green, light blue, or some kind of fun exciting color.
The go into a high school classroom; dark, dull white, brown, pukey colored creme.... It's no wonder teenagers hate going to school.... - Ziak, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1so what does a pink room say? damn ex sorority house...
- mwoberr, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2Let's try another site:
'Seeing red over Iowa's pink locker room' http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9517000/ - MurderMystery, on 10/16/2007, -2/+3You smoke it.
- chyperbola, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1This isn't actually allowed anymore; visiting teams have to have the same colors as home teams in the locker rooms, for this very reason.
- Arramol, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2With one of those wall-sized displays like in Fahrenheit 451 (or next year's HDTV lineup)?
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Who cares? The ***** coin, thats who!
I'm be PISSED if someone spent all day tossing me.
Wait, what!? -
