You used to be cool, but since you've decided to "forbesify" your website, I'm starting to not give a *****.
Seriously, 8 pages of slide show on the right side of the screen? This is a new low in web design. - tbredofsin, on 10/26/2008, -9/+101How Google Got Its Colorful Logo

Yeah, that's what I thought. I saw this months ago. Old. - CiDaemon, on 10/26/2008, -4/+75Wait, rewind.
The NBC logo is a peacock?
...oh. damn. - TheKitchenSinkX, on 10/26/2008, -55/+72Oh, hey, wow! It's a duplicate article! :D

Buried. - zephc, on 10/26/2008, -0/+14Needs more swirls http://www.splorp.com/critique/
- add1802, on 10/26/2008, -1/+14i mean when the page you link to has a link to digg with over 2200 diggs already....
still, its a cool logo and its been 256 days since it was last popular.... oh what the hell - chaos7, on 10/26/2008, -2/+14none of them are really all that great
- add1802, on 10/26/2008, -1/+12here's their logo from before her 1999 trials
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Google1998.png
After all those different logos tries, it looks like they just cleaned up the font and dropped the exclamation mark.... - inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+10Wow, this thread fails.
- L0NER, on 10/26/2008, -1/+10Bevel and Emboss? on the default settings?
Drop Shadow?
that designer came up with some cool stuff, and they went with the one that looked like the one they came up with in their dorm room...
I feel for the designer, I'm sure she was beating her head on the wall, but I have a feeling they wanted to go 'friendly' and decidedly Uncorporate - add1802, on 10/26/2008, -1/+9even the page has a link to digg with 2200 diggs... love duplicates
- occasus, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8Kinda interesting, but man does she over-analyze the parts and colors of the logo. Come on Kedar, it's OK to say that you just thought it looked good.
- dixon, on 10/26/2008, -0/+8Googled "Google Holiday Logos"
http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html - stockjones, on 10/26/2008, -1/+7No offense but most people could create that logo in Corel Draw within 2 minutes.
- JakeKreber, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5Buried for ***** eight pages.
- svivian, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5Yeah, the 5 in "/How_Google_Got_Its_Colorful_Logo_5" is a big clue.
- sirbeta, on 10/26/2008, -1/+6I really wonder if people just visit every article and search for dupes for a reason to bury it. I was hardly a digg user a year ago, and I'm glad I ran into this particular submission.
- westinfunk, on 10/26/2008, -2/+6That was a lot more boring than i thought i'd be.
- EggAndMuffin, on 10/26/2008, -1/+5This 'slideshow' format is like a fricking annoying meme that all these websites are into lately
*prays this annoying meme will die one day - algaeturd, on 10/26/2008, -1/+5It doesn't matter how recognizable it is. Obviously it's seen by millions of people each day but from a designer standpoint, it's basically ***** for branding. If you submitted this logo in any jr. art college for some kind of corporate branding, you'd maybe get a 'C' on it. But when your product or service is that good, you don't need an amazing logo.
But singling it out definitely highlights its shortcomings. - frogman54, on 10/26/2008, -1/+5The google logo reminds me of what people make right after they go, "Hey, what's this bevel and emboss thing do?"
- ThurmanMerman, on 10/26/2008, -2/+5That's one ugly looking logo.
...and symbolizes as much "not doing evil" like a funny, colourful pedophile clown, handing out sweets to children. - Giever, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3You know I'm not offended by language but use something other than ***** for once, c'mon.
Be more colorful. - LifeIsARhythm, on 10/26/2008, -1/+4I can't believe its still not in beta.
- dn11, on 10/26/2008, -1/+4it really is one of the worst "logos" ever
- PCloadLetterWTF, on 10/26/2008, -1/+4I think it would be really cool if there was an archive of ALL the Google logos there have ever been somewhere....
YOU HEAR THAT GOOGLE.... GET TO WORK! - banik2008, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3Should of went to scool
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -3/+6I've always thought that they got someone's nephew who just started his "web designer" course in high school, who has a pirated copy of Photoshop to do it for them. Now that I see the versions that were rejected, it proves my theory. Default Mac fonts, gradients, drop shadows. All the marks of an amateur.
- brooklotzkar, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2That doesnt make any sense. That symbol attached to the two O's represent infinity, while google means 10^100.
Stupid graphics designers... - metaliq, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2A bunch of ugly ideas?
- leif77, on 10/26/2008, -1/+3Could probably make it in Word in less time than that...
- AtraNoxVII, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2Should of had a V8.
- fleurus, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2There are videos on you tube of all of the google logos from day 1- it just scrolls through them.
- 1ncu3us, on 10/26/2008, -3/+5say Google over and over in your head.. then say it out loud until it looses it's meaning...
then you'll realize, it sounds just as retarded as when you first heard it years ago and was like... wtf is a google? - feureau, on 10/26/2008, -1/+3Dupes can still get to the front page?
Hmmm.... - banik2008, on 10/26/2008, -1/+3Endure? Was someone forcing you to read the article?
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2It's mostly when we remember seeing the same ***** multiple times that pisses people off. Should the newspaper run stories multiple times just to makes sure that everyone gets to see it? How would you like it if you tune in to thew new episode of your favorite show, only to hear "tonight's new episode will not be aired. Instead we will air a rerun of the last episode, in case anyone missed it" Some people use Digg daily, it's not fair that we have to see the same ***** time and again just so the people that stop by every once in a while can see it too. That being said, if it's been more than a few months, I don't have a problem with it. However, the "Creepiest Tower" was on in the top 10 last week, now this week it's back on the front page. That is *****.
- sparkplug890, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Needs more cowbell.
- halbanero, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1add www.timbuk2.com
- shiftyroach, on 10/26/2008, -2/+3agreed. worst logo ever.
- RSterkenburg, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1"Google Holiday Logos" http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html
-Dixon - kiubo, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Google is clueless about graphic design. Those are all eye sores along with everything else they have made. Otherwise mostly good products though.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1I like the original logo with the psychedelic blackhole thingy
- diggdatt, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1They just copied the 4 colors used in Microsoft's Windows' Logo. Seriously anyone that thinks all 3 primary colors or M$'s 4 color pallette is good, doesn't need to be hired to do logos. The only time it's even come close to being acceptable is in Mario games.
- andrewfahmy, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1should HAVE went with the first one actually
- Myztry, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Microsoft would have trademarked the primary colors in their logo.
Except dithered colors don't appear on any standardized reference palette. - rsh28630, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Two thoughts:
1. The origin of a distinct graphic symbol to represent a product or service is an aid to the illiterate. One can be a university graduate and require assistance finding a public toilet in nearly 95% of the countries in the world.
2. Genius in logo design is measured in rapid recognition and reassurance the product or service is the 'right' choice.
Beyond these goals lies the realm where hacks waste time and money indulging esoteric fantasy. - NinjaGod, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Wrong, a googol means 10^100
- stargatesteve, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1A google is a misspelling of the word googol, or more specificly: 1*10^100.
- brooklotzkar, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Wiki frowns at you...
"The company name Google is a misspelling of the word "Googol" made by founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, as described in the book The Google Story by David A. Vise." -
