- kensho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Do you realize the irony of this statement?
If you don't already know its a dupe, it means you haven't seen it before and therefore you benefit from seeing it...and in fact for you it is not a dupe. - bigboehmboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Heh I love their error page when theyve been dugg; in case you can't see it:
under unusually heavy traffic
OMG!! The website is GONE!
Deep breath. No, the site isn't gone.
In fact, that there is nothing wrong with the website. We're experiencing a temporary lapse of availability due to what is commonly known as the Slashdot effect or, the Digg effect.
In other words, the amount of visitors has overwhelmed our servers and we're having to cope with increased traffic. Sometimes at a cost of your convenience and we sincerely regret that.
What now?
With our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you please check back in a few hours. Historically the spike of traffic subsides in about one day.
Webmaster: If you believe this may be an billing issue, please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible. Otherwise feel free to ignore this message, your website will be back up as soon as possible.
Hosting by LeanWebHosting.com.
Yes, we acknowledge when we screw up.
Honestly, could there be a better slogan for a webhosting company? XD - zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dugg just for their awesome "digg effect" message
- Wolfghost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Been doing that for a while now, kensho. Glad to see some else is.
The dupe complainers waste more time than the duped article. It's just another form of trolling. - hankosky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:3F5ickohVbAJ:www.guidebookgallery.org/+&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a
- craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm a UI / HCI nut and the historical info is neat. Digg
- tbfl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg for admitting their bandwith is sub-par....
- kensho, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14 From now on, I'm going to negative digg any comments that mention dupes... anyone with me?
- leanweb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5glad you like it ;)
- sumrandommember, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yay for you!
- jamesob5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4We've been dugg or slashdotted or otherwise under unusually heavy traffic? SUPER!!!
- matt95z, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Cool site, as a new Digg user the reposts are nice sometimes.
- VegaObscura3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not sure how you'd see my opinion on it, but I negative digg comments that just say things like "dupe" or "repost" but digg the ones that actually give a link to the old article, if it is the first comment to give the link.
- ModernDayDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dugg for my obsession with HCI
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I Just Wish web hosting Companies would be honest about their service like this one.

Deep breath. No, the site isn't gone. - ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Eh...did you even search? The other submitted "dupes" were never dugg this high so I doubt anyone cares dude.
- Edogz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is definitely neat. I really like their comparisons. They could definitely use a few more icons on the page comparing system-file icons throughout systems.
Interesting site, gives a very good idea of how Gui's have matured and morphed as time passed. - leanweb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3we've been dugg to death again. sorry gang, we'll be back up as soon as link moves off the first page.
- VegaObscura3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just like everyone else, dugg for the message.
- leanweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1we host couple of sites that show on digg and slashdot once in a while, and we've devised a way to monitor these spikes. thats why site comes offline so quickly with a "we've been dugg" message. and for those who think our bandwidth is "sub-par" i challenge any hosting company to sustain a website like guidebookgallery.org (that is, 100+ image GETs per page request) while on the first page of digg. good luck! and deep pockets ;)
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How do you usually find out if one of your sites is getting dotted/dugg... Does everything just stop, or does something alert you to a sudden increase in traffic, or do you see the article on digg or the rss feed and brace for impact... just curious.
Regardless of the real answer though, I think it's best to picture red rotating beacon lights and red-alert klaxons going off. "Sir, we're being dugg! Incoming photons on the fiber! Initiating evasive maneuvers!" (sets a redirect) - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wished more webhosting company would more honest about their service Yes, we acknowledge when we screw up.

Deep breath. No, the site isn't gone. - SirVanderhoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I get what you mean. Typically, if that's the only thing the person has to say, i.e., "pfft. I've been on digg since it was created, and this was on here the second day. I don't even have to call up the URL to remember the headline, but here it is anyway..." then it's a neg for sure. That's what the "problem?" tab at the top is for, kids.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3But... you mentioned dupe in that post.. should I digg you down??
- after.Linux, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5this page has been on the front page for a couple of times... who is still posting old things?? but i agree that it is a really cool side.
- framitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Site is back up. The headline on digg is totally misleading. This is just a gallery of Apple's past GUIs and is inaccurate anyway.
Nothing to digg - cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Me too and I've known about this website for a long time, it's very nice!
- mattdr488, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Digg effect, oh no.
- bradbeattie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24 comments and the page has already been dugg out? I guess that's what happens when we create an unintentional DDOS.
- veracon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Nice site.
If only it was new. (Reported) - shortie446, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Repost
- gmailgeoff, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Digg the notion that the site is out there, but no digg the actual link because digg effect kills.
- vhtrading, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Digg effect big time.
This site was dugg about a month or two ago. Good site, but it's a dupe. - nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -23/+2No, because if it's a dupe I'd like to know about it so I can report it as such.

What is Digg?
