What a coincidence! - jayc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Smokey the Bear would hit it. With a class A fire extinguisher.
- TyroPyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29since we're checking out Wikipedia pictures, try this:

My Canon G6 has a 1/2000 sec shutter speed - so I managed to get HALF a match on fire.
Made the apartment stink by the time I'd shot this half a dozen times. - SmallTownHero23, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19wow.....I think
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Duggmirror? It's on Wikipedia - I think Duggmirror will go down a *little* before WP.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6As for the comment above on Wikipedia, there are widescreen (16:10) wallpapers here as well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_featured_widescreen_desktop_backgrounds
edit: doh, they had a "see also" for that one.. well digg me down if you think this was redundant and sucked :-p - Guitarsenal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6324 degrees?
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11joe: i believe it's hotter than that
- lucid270, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is where the typical "you're on digg, you can't have a girlfriend" comment would come... But comparing *that* to a nipple? Don't worry, this is a girl you've won and can keep.
- dumpling, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7it's just big. the only part in good focus is the tip of the match melting, but there's no real detail in the photo other than that.
- drilldown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Echo: try this.
http://digitalblasphemy.com/freegallery.shtml - Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Really really hot heating element that he moved out of the way fast?
perhaps a soldering iron? - Firehed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Very cool shot... though I've gotta wonder how the photographer ignited the match without either a striker or a second flame in the pic.
- RozzleDozzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not sure what everyone's complaining about. If you don't like it, don't digg it. I thought it was a fascinating picture. It really reveals the detail of something beautiful that you might not notice otherwise. Does it matter if it was on the front page of wiki yesterday? Not really. I am sure that a lot of people don't check the front page of wiki every day, so this is probably new to a lot of people.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it seems like "Super Duper High Res Picture of X" always gets dugg. nothing wrong with it, just an observation.
- esender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My new desktop background!
- Dwarfthemike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5wow. fire looks really cool that close and detailed.
- shinpoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Part of the photo looks very similar to the OS X background
- sirdaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thats a HI DEF match.. Its actually interesting to see things that close up. Plus I love the smoke effect while not zoomed in.
- numptydumpty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what a depressing front page story.
plus i feel the need to set light to things now... - ModernGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How did you get the dock in the lower right like that?
- ModernGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Got it in full res?
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4482/picture1ql8.png
Makes a REAL nice background - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those blue curves look like something generated by some sort of 3d graphing program. They look awesome.
- mkw87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ dumpling
Thats what a macro lense does, it really shrinks the depth of view for a photograph, its often done on purpose...as seen here they want you to focus on the tip. - LogicallyGenius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am waiting for HiRes Image of hot tea water vapor.
I Wonder how the vapor particles will look. - brodie7838, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very nice. At first I was thinking: Ok...and? Then I realized that it had been rendered down so I could see the entire picture at once. Then I stopped thinking.....
Its amazing to see some of the most ordinary things in life pictured in high def; the level of detail that we cannot perceive with the naked eye. - peter13579, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Quote from my girlfriend:
Really nice this picture of fire, the head of the match looks like a nipple :) - kungfuice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"You've Done Well Laddie Now You Know What You Have To Do, Burn THEM, BURN THEM ALL!"
- aregee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how did they light the match
- clemsontiger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now see people, thats what hi res is. not 600 x 800. great picture
- mikeyaj86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Great picture, very interesting picture of something generally not that interesting.
- manova, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, yes, fire, fire, FIRE.
- AlphaO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, great picture. The tip looks like a burnt sponge.
- therearenorules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow... it almost looks fake.
- davecor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all 7 megapixels.....
What res did you have in mind? - cyranthus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1neato
- CydeWeys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why did the submitter link directly to the image rather than to the image description page? Sigh ...
- stuf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I looks nice, yeah, but I'd actually preferred an extreme close-up of the burning of the match itself. I'm just an aesthetic whore, though.
http://www.photocritic.org/articles/macro-on-the-cheap-pics/trip02.jpg - iwillrefuse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can you only imagine the placement a burning cross would have warrented?
- edilclyde, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1he probably heated it up until it ignited
- wisie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Great shot but its a pretty common experiment that everyone seems to take?
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8rotate 90%, nice widescreen wallpaper.
- metalmilitiaa, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5to bad its on a mac
- Cory70, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3WTF.......A MATCH BURNING THATS AMAZING
