1,000,000,000 / 80,500 = 12,422.39
assuming trees are planted with a 2m gap between them, that's 4 m^2 for each tree, wich gives a planted area of almost 50,000 m^2. that's a little more than 6 football fields (REAL football, not american footbal). - aukxsona, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7the lower ones...no. 1 - 10 are good for my three year old. After all, it could just be a trick, there could actually be a much smaller number of mazes with many duplicates, it would be hard to find the dupes.

What -is- difficult, though, is generating -interesting- mazes. You want to avoid a maze with an easy-to-see path of least resistance from A to B. - ishmal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LIkely, "one billion" means one billion different mazes, not ones that they have available. I would not be surprised if the "one billion" refers to a 32-bit integer used as a pseudo-random seed, so that using it as an index will always return the same result.

They are built on the fly as you click them, and he probably just caches the ones most commonly clicked. The real interesting thing about this site is, how did he set up his web server to, in a sense, "fake a file system" to refer to files that don't really exist. Can this be done with Apache?
