- tropican8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+107No, its signed by Microsoft. That's a pretty hard thing to spoof. If it was easy, people wouldn't have to patch their uxtheme.dll files because skinners could just release winstyles with a fake digital signature. Obviously this isn't the case, however.
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+57They really should've completed and offered this skin. Royale is a huge improvement over Fischer Price
- falcon707, on 10/12/2007, -3/+54TO CLEAR UP SOME CONFUSION:
Royale = Shiny blue and green color scheme that has been available for a while.
Royale Noir = Shiny black scheme JUST UNCOVERED. (the theme this article is talking about) - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45Site seems to be down.... here's the theme:
http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/142770/royalenoir.rar - samanathon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43I think the theme looks amazing! I have used Royale for a while and think it is very cool but Royale Noir blows it away!!
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41Instead of the site being down now it is redirecting to some other unrelated site. I think it was better when it was down otherwise people are going to think this is some sort of spam.
- Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36@falcon707: Wait, I'm getting confused, if a Royale is a Shiny blue and green color scheme, and Royale Noir is a Shiny black scheme, then what the hell is a quarter pounder with cheese?
- motheroats, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39http://www.savefile.com/files/201988
your welcome - BowieX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24It's night time and I just put it on then; it's pretty sweet. Would be cool to have a program change the theme between day and night. (Or better yet, a theme that subtly changes colour gradient over 24 hours.)
- augustc4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23beats the hell out of their default theme
- theotherme, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31http://www.duggmirror.com
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Whenever Microsoft faces little or no competition they do almost nothing to develop new products. Only when they're pressured by competing companies that they start to develop new features.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23another mirror here: http://www.tomwrote.info/downloads
- motheroats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23i love this theme, it is SO awesome! it looks kinda like WMP11
- falcon707, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22You could not have had the "Royale Noir" theme for a year as it has just recently been uncovered. However, you MIGHT have had the original Royale theme.
TO CLEAR UP SOME CONFUSION:
Royale = Shiny blue and green color scheme that has been available for a while.
Royale Noir = Shiny black scheme JUST RELEASED. Now stop claiming you've had it... - BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Probably because it looks similar to the theme they're using in Vista. They probably don't want it to gain wide use, because to the typical consumer, they only realize that an OS is new if it looks different.
It's nice though. I'm sure Vista will look much better, but this is a nice change from the horrors of 1997 interface design.
I wish I could get IE7 to take on a similar appearance. - BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23you're
>:D - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19you DON'T have to remove "Royale" if you are using Media Center just so everyone knows.
Select Royal and under "colour scheme" change it to Royal Noir. You can keep both the blue and black themes now :) - W3bbo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18That Royale theme on Softpedia doesn't include the Royale Noir alternative theme, it was Royale Noir, not Royale, that was alleged to have been "never released".
But hey, if people are claiming to have used this before I found it, I'd like to know, genuinely. - greatblackowl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14That's a really sweet idea, but it would suck if you were up late writing a paper or something and the taskbar kept getting darker and darker, reminding you of how farging late it is.
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14i know its cool to not put the whole dugg mirror link, just duggmirror because it reads the referer, but its useless to alot of people who block referers.
- EbenieRosa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Only things is the Start Button functions oddly color wise, black, then on mouse over it's normal drak green, and on mouse click it's dark green, a transition to white or grey would have made more sense.
- Juvenall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Honestly, what could have been ruined anyhow? The name of the theme is "Royale Noir". If you couldn't figure out it was a black version of Royal, reading isn't your strong suit.
- Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I've been using something like this for at least a year.

http://vistaxp-v3-wb.en.softonic.com/ie/49651 - detrate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14RoyalFour trumps your Luna and looks similar to the hidden theme.
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/10955957/ - Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Never though I'd say this, but that start button is just beautiful.
- PicklePower, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12http://rapidshare.com/files/1044522/royale_noir.rar.html
Another mirror, sorry for rapidshare though... - tormod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If MS signed this thing, I wonder why they would leave it officially unpublished. It looks great!
- pailhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Awesome find... wish MS would release more themes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14dude no matter what I use I always come back to windows classic. the style never expires. take Xp for example. it was cool six years ago but now it's friggen lame. but classic been going strong for 12 years now.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Interesting because it's unreleased. Unfortunately it does tend to look a little messy and slightly ugly compared to the standard Royale theme so it may not be a long term use one. Digg anyway.
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yes
- 7sinz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@Modulo
I watched that movie for the first time the other night and nearly died laughing during that part. - macbookpromat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Is this compatible with XP home edition? I wasn't to sure when I read the article.
- shattadeya, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9WARNING.... BUGS in HIDDEN THEME
The reason why MS did not release this officially because it has tons of bugs.
One of the main ones are that if another is maximized the autohide taskbar feature does not work 100%. It will hide but not come back. - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Posted up top... Enjoy.
- Zanneth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I usually hate Windows themes, but this actually looks very nice.
- Bamborzled, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This is the black version of the Royale theme, not the regular Royale theme.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Very, very nice. I don't particularly like the Black version because I'm not used to working with dark interfaces, but the normal one is great. I just love how the first stage of the start menu looks.
- sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Looks very similiar to Vista's non-Aero look, maybe this theme went to live on in Vista.
Looks great on my system, even the regular Royale theme was going the way of Luna in terms of tiring for me. - JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm using this with Klowner's Vortex Wallpaper ( http://www.dugnet.org/klown/wallpaper/show.php?id=_wallpaper/_other/v0rt3x ) and it looks sick!
- jonnyboy88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5WMP11 finally fits in, visually.
- Yanks2435, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have been using Royale Blue for a while, and this is just as nice. I like everything except the start button turning green when you go over it.
- Giever, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8In reference to Royale Noir, one thing seems to stick out to me. When you hover over the start button it goes from black to pale green. Looks very strange, almost like they forgot to fix it or something, that out of place. Maybe it's just me.
- joncarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Kinda reminds me of the old High Tech theme from Copland. :)
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8used to use both of those in that order too, then came Luna Royale :)
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40772637/ - shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow. That's beautiful. Looks great with WMP 11. Awesome.
- Snarfy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Open explorer.exe with a binary hex editor and find the world "start" in unicode characters. You can change each letter, but you cannot insert more characters and you cannot delete. If you want to delete, change them to spaces instead.
My start menu says "Snarf" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Very nice theme! I actually finally got rid of Windows Classic in favor of this theme. I find Luna painful. Royale Noir is pretty good. Very Vista-like though ;)
- chief1983, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I usually use the Classic look too, but at some point after a reformat, I have an urge to make XP look like OS X. I guess it's just to piss off all Mac users and confuse the crap out of people. "When did you get OS X on your computer?" "When did you get a Mac?" "What the f....?" It's awesome. I even skin Winamp and Firefox with their respective OS X skins.
