- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I just previewed front page digg articles from it and wondered what that tab was... Interesting concept. They just keep adding easy yet usable functionality and I like it =)
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Not working for co.uk :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Icecream
They're tabs. Everybody who has ever used them on the web ripped them off from the filing cabinet. - jtdgrz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The collapse feature has been around for a week or two. If only there was a way to collapse the Tab toolbar...
- magister, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I was just sumitting the same story as well. It doesn't seem that everyone has it, I've posted some screens here: http://blog.outer-court.com/forum/67477.html
- frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You can drag your content to each tab after you create them. Smooth!
- BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Finally! My personalized homepage had become very crowded and very un-Google. I'll be happy to put my lesser viewed feeds on a separate tab along with my homepage games.
Between these tabs and the "official" expand/collapse functionality, Google Homepage is finally becoming easier to keep clean. - CoreBurn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Kinda like on netvibes.com, only not as good... I'm still glad it's finally being added though.
- Grimboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Confirmed for the whole not working with .co.uk thing. Still, just change .co.uk to .com and you're away. Personally I don't care if it isn't a conveniant getting local (UK) pages, so no biggie.
- ambiguus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Windows Live has the feature as well, I wonder if google decided to go forth on it based on that.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4It seems that Google really is developing IG since the news that Windows Live was leaving beta.
- cmearns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Would be nice if you could drag the tabs to re-order them. To Do.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+4Woo, i'm not the only one who has a Home, Feeds and Games tab then :)
- jbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The tabs take too long to load. In order for them to be truly functional, the tabbing needs to be snappy.
I like it though, and i will use it. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Heh. I was about to click on a RSS link and the page refreshed. Then I made a big deal about it taking a second longer to load... only to notice that they had added tabs.
I will have to check these out more thoroughly tonight. - pcheaven2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I found the link to this story from the Digg Feed on my personalized Google Start page and didnt even see the dang tab thing until after I dugg the story.....Man am I super observant or what......../sarcasm
- reject, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like how they have different colors for each one, and the cookie remembers which tab you had focused last. A real convenience :]
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/09/google-personalized-homepage-has-tabs.html
- futaris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Doesn't work for http://www.google.com.au/ig - only on http://www.google.com/ig
- FiveSpeedLX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...and it is a beautiful thing.
This plus the recent addition of being able to minimize each pane/panel has made it much more user friendly and usable. - evansls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a great addition to the google portal. I'm addicted to my IG homepage and now that I have this tab feature I can put more ***** on it that I've always wanted above the fold than ever before. awesome!
- tejashah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems like Google is copying Live.com's personalized page format.
- csfreakazoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The bugginess seems to be going away. It appears to be more stable now. They must be be closer to completing the updates on all servers
- rpike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's about time this was implemented. IG has been my start page of choice since it was released, I was considering leaving it last week because of the lack of this feature. Problem solved.
- kirupa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter who had it first. Yes, netvibes may have had it first, and Windows Live had it implemented for a while also. The nice thing is that more users can enjoy these features that you and I have grown to like on netvibes or MS Live.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21 step closer to being pageflakes!
- jcronkhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is cool, but I really wish Google would allow its users to upload a custom stylesheet for our homepages. The functionality is great as always with Google, but maybe it's time for Google to hire a graphics team. Either make some templates of skins or let your users make our own skins!
- blueangel5383, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5so copied!!..
www.netvibes.com had it at least months before google..... .. AT LEAST.. - BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@robystar: You -can- drag and drop your content between tabs. You just can't reorder the tabs using drag-and-drop yet. You shouldn't have to search for your old content to get started; just create a tab and drag your old stuff on to it.
- roostersheep, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Indeed!
Double click a tab to rename or remove it! I was looking for the remove button for a while. - jecobo, on 06/11/2009, -1/+3So how do you delete a tab?
- stylerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I saw it too, but I dont keep my home page that cluttered. I am not sure what I would use it for.
- pvdnyc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is Hot
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can also sign up (in the U.S.) for a Google account without being invited. Maybe other people could do it but I couldn't yesterday and now today I can.
- wozley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No other way to link to the homepage. I'd get the "duplicate story" stopper.
- davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google's personalized homepage is relatively uncluttered since there are no ads at all and it's only as cluttered as you make it. Still, these tabs are a help. I'm putting one for News, one for search engines and havent decided what else to do.
- dungbeetlemania, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been waiting for this! Does anyone here use Gmail Skins? With it you can have a pane in your Gmail account which shows the left column of your /ig page. I keep the calendar and reader modules, along with weather etc there. Now I can have modules grouped on tabs, right in Gmail. Whoohoo!
- Trekkie101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing! I've always hated Google Personal Homepages due to the clutter it creates, its a nightmare to go look at when you know its a mess. With this and its minimise things it great to have a ton of content on it. Using it a lot more now. Well done Google!
- NPcomplete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2While this is a nice feature, it's not very innovative. The Windows Live personalized homepage has had this feature for quite some time. Google is not getting ahead of MS by adding this feature, they are catching up.
- Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Too bad every link I click from Google opens a new WINDOW in Safari, pisses me off to no end. It's the only site to do it.
- oxymoron69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1awww, doesn't seem to be working for me... using google.ca running opera 9.01 or even firefox :-(
oh well good things take time - ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tabbing is nice.... but Google News is broke. For me, at least. All six stories I tell it to show are about the Canada shooting. Funny thing is, they have links to other stories about the same event beneath the headlines on the Google News element.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NICE!
Good job G! - judsond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Click on the name again, and you can rename or delete. Took me a while too... :(
- joecritch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Homepage Tabs. They've got about as many points as a circle. It's like owning your summer house just across the street.
- kalmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can I turn it off?
It is just irritating for me...
Space-consuming... - Firemanjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still can't get it on my personalize page.... urgh!
- centinall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's really cool is that you can drag stuff from one page onto a tab that represents another page. That will save us sometime reorganizing our content.
- TheSoong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do Google ever release really good stuff? Apart from obviously Google.com I can't think of much, Gmail aside (which is amazing).
All their other great products/services - Google Earth, Sketchup, Writely, Blogger.com, Picasa, Analytics, etc are all from acquisitions.
Everything else seems to be in eternal beta or just very basic indeed. Google Talk is JUST about getting on it's feet, which is great. But it's still got a way to go.
It seems they still aren't sure which direction to take Google Video and YouTube has just basically made it look insignificant.
Google Checkout, Page Creator, Base, etc... I know many are just Lab products but I can't help but think they should concentrate on less products, pushing them futher through development to make them a little more heavyweight.
As for /ig? It's been my homepage for as long as I can remember but I still wonder why sometimes. The only real positive is that it's very quick. It offers very little functionality and I know it's not a huge point but it looks dated and ugly! I'm suprised they didn't do something like buy out netvibes.com or something similar.
ANYWAY, ranting aside, it's a step in the right direction. - mpancha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It works forme in Firefox, but not in Safari. Hope google fixes that soon. The only thing I really want a tab for is to throw my search history into so its off my homepage.
