- jmp478, on 10/12/2007, -7/+93Google looks the same for me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42I will do nothing of the sort. Me and my cookies is friends. I eat them.
- tmcpheeters, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Want to test-drive Google's latest redesign experiment? Just go to Google.com and enter the following in your browser address bar, then hit return:
javascript:document.cookie="PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J;path=/; domain=.google.com" - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35Go to google.com, and paste this into your address bar:
javascript:document.cookie="PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J;path=/;domain=.google.com"
Then you'll see some crap, just go back to google and search away!
To go back to normal, just clear your cookies. - wisam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32me too. But again, maybe it needs time to propagate.
- raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23...that comment makes no sense.
- Gzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Nice toolbars...
- notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I've been noticing lots of changes recently. It went like this for a while:
http://personales.ya.com/casitasoler/james/google.png - quomen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19@trizz,
he's been around for a while. - TriZz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Sorry...I guess it was a bad joke. I was making fun of the school who expelled that kid for being "quiet" and "Korean" rather than the submitter. My apologies.
- cam2009, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15tmcpheeters method worked for me. I don't know why everyone talking about the javascript/cookie fix is being dugg down and everyone saying they don't see anything is being dugg up, how about you try it first?
looks pretty nice. more noticeable than I thought it would be, but still subtle and simple. And the "mail" link is nice, never understood why they left that out of their front page links. - thekms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Yeah, me too, I see no difference (be it my personalized homepage or standard Google). I cleared all cookies and cache as well...
- truax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Kind of off topic..but look at the pic Google used for its "new" Web History feature..

DIGG! - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+12You must have a stick of RAM dedicated to Firefox use.
- quomen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17k it's definitely not working for me..
and you made me clear my cookies for nothing.
now i gotta re-enter my passwords for a trillion pages.
UGH - Hobotime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Someone better digg this guy up. He is using Ubuntu.
- allenu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wow, this is the rarest of cases: the joke is so lame that explaining it actually does make it funnier.
- Trogdor420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You do realize that this saves no power if you are using an LCD screen.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8These comments prove that no one reads the articles.
- arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6what does that even mean?
- u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6its not the same without the ads... although annoying its a part of google that is never to be removed!
- lustforblood, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12yep same exact thing. just give it time maybe? not sure. hopefully it works for everyone, cause google is a bit basic looking for the most visited website
- vladtepes86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Do not like the new interface as you cannot jump to the deeper (2nd, 3rd..etc) page of the search unless you scroll to the bottom. If I am repeating a search on something I have searched for before and know that it is on a non-1st page then I do not want to have to scroll to the bottom to jump.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Which cookie exactly?
- Gzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I like the old one better, this one is too bright.
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If there is one thing I have learned through all my attempts at web design, it's that having too many horizontal lines on a page makes it look cluttered. The underlines on the google services links, the light blue line under them, the long search box, the gradient bar with lines above and below, and the underline on each of the results makes the page look ugly in my opinion. At the very least they should remove the underline from the top links.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is common... Google often don't roll out a change immediately, so you can really stop posting.
Actually, often they only make very few people get the new version at first as they're still testing the design and its performance, as a sort of public preview. The cookie trick above might work.. - norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Copied that thing in my address bar. It looks much better now!
Make one line out of this:
javascript:document.cookie="PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:
GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J;path=/;domain=.google.com" - sepherenia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Got it to work - and while I like the subtle gradient around the 'Results 1 - 10' section, it all feels slightly unbalanced and the top's a bit cramped. Is it just me? Needs some more tweaking before it goes live, methinks.
- Carsonauto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Hey, I got it to work.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v446/carsonauto/04-25-2007_20-54-52.png
For those who want it. I entered the code:
javascript:document.cookie="PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J;path=/; domain=.google.com"
Then cleared my cookies, and it worked. - notjamt9000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5artisanalcheese.com, great domain name
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thanks, the javascript worked for me, too. It looks a bit nicer now. If you think about it, it's really just a menu bar for Google's web services. Great ideas stand the test of time, I guess. Now if it would just work seamlessly like a desktop app.... when I click the different services, it should flip back and forth all ajaxy-like without opening any new windows or anything. At that point, you've sold me.
- Carsonauto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think the beauty of Google is it's simplicity. Regardless of it's features (Which are nice anyways), it is clean, and gets the job done. Whatever Google does, I hope they don't "snazz" it up too much.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now the stuff I added on customizegoogle wont work
- donsherio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4OKAY~! CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO THIS TRICK:
1) Go to Google.com
2) in the address bar, add:
javascript:document.cookie="PREF=ID=fddb01133a87d314:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1177334998:LM=1177334998:GM=1:S=OOg0FEVzpPplxe9J;path=/; domain=.google.com"
...AFTER the "www.google.com"
3) Hit Go, enter, Return, w.e :P
4) nothing will appear to change and u stay at the Google default page.
5) Enter a search query and hit search.
DONE: the search results will be altered. Hope that helped. - aquadoctorbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's a lame attempt at a "hell freezes over" scenario.
- Kruncher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks a bit Web 2.0 to me...
- the6thReplicant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've lost all of my tabs on my homepage! I tried adding them and then they disappeared too. Bad luck for me I guess.
- JohnTheJohnMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2read comment 5...
"I would also like to point out that the design is not visible for everyone. And they are still testing other designs too." - RyanWilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Didn't go Google do exactly the same thing a year or so ago, also accessible with a JavaScript trick? That never did get rolled out though, so this one won't necessarily be either.
- Eisim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2your CLEAR instructions sucks, and fails to explain that this does not work if the google you're using is redirected to your local google in your own language.
instructions for all those failing to test this (if your google isn't google.com but google.whatevercountryyourelivingin)
1. Go to http://www.google.com/intl/en/
2. Follow rest of the instructions given by mr smartypants
and if you want to continue seeing this test-version, you have to continue go to ../intl/en version, and not google.se/ro/dk/whatever..
tjallabais - PromaneX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And how are google to make money and survive without those adverts?
- quotato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3javascript:document.cookie= I PREFer having my cookie first than my cup of java
- SoloMalee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's your explanation...
http://www.digg.com/software/Google_Home_page_gets_less_personal
For once it seems Digg is your friend and Google is....not. - SoloMalee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You are not alone, mine have gone too! I'm so relieved it is not only me.
I've got the same problem at work with IE6 as at home with Firefox, so it doesn't even seem to be a PC config issue.
I also don't beleive it has anything to do with "trying out" the new search page. Mine had already gone about an hour ago. I then went searching for "Google has problems" stories and saw this news item. I've decided that they've screwed something up during a change.
My Personalised Home page seems to have reverted to the basic config I was using about 3 months ago. As you mentioned, all the Tabs are gone along with all the items I had added to my main tab.
Come on Google, we rely on you to not screw up like MS does! - cyberfly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Works for me. Looks lightly different, but nothing amazing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Google hasn't looked the same since I installed numerous scripts for the firefox extension Stylish. There's scripts to automatically append the next page of search to the bottom so you can continuously scroll (without having to click page 2, 3, 4 etc.), and script to keep the search box at the top of the screen the whole time, as well as get rid of useless space. Do a search for FF add-on "Stylish", and it'll have a link to the scripts which are downloadable much like greasemonkey scripts.
- stockjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Same old look. Googles popularity was partially due to its clean and simple interface, but I know the marketing people are just waiting to pounce on the page and junk it up. It could use a bit of a facelift and lose the almost amateur looking Corel draw look, but very minimal changes. Maybe just Polish up the logo a bit etc.
- gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He needs to get Folding@home ... his cpu is not using its full potential! ;)
- puredeviation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Google is really cleaning up their interfaces, really nice I must say. I'm using those google themes for the personalized homepage too!
