Google Adds Search to Google Reader!
googlereader.blogspot.com — That's right, search is finally in Google Reader. Now you can find that that apricot recipe you came across a few months ago and now have a craving for. Or perhaps you'd like to search for "ipod" so that you can read at once all the posts in your subscriptions that mention today's announcements.

- digg it
- nattfodd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+36Finally! The feature that was supposed to be there since launch.
Oh and now you can hide the sidebar and count goes up to 1,000. Pretty neat.- tedhead2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11You could always hide the side bar actually, you just had to press 'U'. But not many people knew, it's good there is a button to press now.
- TjLAXattack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Count going up to 1000 is nice, I use the widget on my iGoogle page. Nice to sort w/ tags now when we are not limited at "100+"
- Jordan117, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Hmmm... I submitted this same story from the same article with a similar title ~20 minutes after you did, but it didn't show me your submission as a possible duplicate. Oh, well, my bad.
+1 digg - ani625, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Other Features:
A neat circle 'loading' gif instead of the old G-lab gif
Hide subscriptions feature for full page view- SysstemLord, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I always wished there was an option to filter out unwanted articles, so that i can create a filter to flush every feed containing the word iPhone, for example i mean
- grav3k33p3r, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2use yahoo pipes for filtering feeds...http://pipes.yahoo.com

- JonRohan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7YES!! Now I can search my diggs. :D By searching my dugg feed.
- st3vo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dugg down?.. JonRohan has a most excellent point, assuming we can do this.
- goodoldharris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22After trying about 5 other RSS readers, I've been using Google Reader for a few months now. Now that it has search, it's near perfect. If anyone is looking to start using an RSS reader, Google's is definitely worth checking out. (I say near perfect, because I still want to be able to set my own word limit on my feeds.)
- dynamit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Finally!
- raynar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How about when I click on the title, it open in a new window instead of making me click the little arrow on the right?
- mhusson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1just press V
- Twoism, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Google Reader finally closed the door on Opera. ARGH!!!
- Sushubh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1too bad opera stores the feeds offline.
oh crap. google reader does that too :P
- Sushubh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1too bad opera stores the feeds offline.
- frmatc, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0Anyone else notice that the author of the article blurred out his gmail account in the screenshot even though it is clearly the same shape and length of his name, which is available on the byline?
- superheroboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4They need to update their feeds more often. Sometimes they don't update in GReader for up to 12 hours after the feed updates.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"Or perhaps you'd like to search for "ipod" so that you can read at once all the posts in your subscriptions that mention today's announcements."
It should be mandatory to have this for all the Apple trolls so they can come and say in each and every one of them how much they don't care about Apple/Macintosh/iPod posts. - RyGiL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Awww.. I've been using netvibes for months and love it but with the addition of this feature to Google Reader, looks like I might be switching.
- matthall28, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6And my Google Reader theme is broken...
- Radscott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The Google Reader iGoogle gadget has been updated as well. Previously, if you had more than 100 unread items, the gadget indicated this with "100+". Now it seems to display a more accurate number.
- TjLAXattack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Great update, I hope they also add option to star items and maybe a search bar at the top of the gadget.
- superheroboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The gadget needs the ability to email items just like the reader.
- patik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was way more excited about the unread item count than the search box. To clarify your post, it now goes up to 1000 before changing to the vague "1000+" (according to the official Google Reader blog), which is enough for me but in principle I'd like to see it work for any amount (why have a limit?).
- TjLAXattack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Great update, I hope they also add option to star items and maybe a search bar at the top of the gadget.
- shiftless, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Now if only they could get rid of the triangle to the right of my feed list. I just find it very visually distracting. They should put the show/hide feed bar up at the top. I got very confused when I hid it the first time.
- crorella, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0yeah! at last!!!!!!!
- danc4498, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I am genuinely excited about this! Is that sad?
- thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3On Digg, no. In the real world, yes.
- x00x, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1You've really got to wonder how a feature that is quintessentially Google, the search function, remained inexplicably unavailable all this time. Who is the moron-in-charge that left 'search' off the original iteration of Greader's features list? What sort of brainless idiots never thought of including it all this time up until now? The web is chock full of home-grown scripts tweaking greader with the capability to add search and yet it remained unavailable by the geniuses at Greader. Go figure...
- useful, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1awesome, finally
- m3mn0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Nice! I'm actually going to start using this again!!
- kidal25, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I was about to suggest this in the suggestions form but they already did it. Good job Google.
- nkoszyk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Searchable feeds is long overdue from Google Reader. I also appreciate seeing the actual number of feeds (rather than 100+). At least up to 1000.
- lync, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0http://kemal.bioeng-network.org/2007/09/06/google-reader-update/trackback/
- Youssif, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Google remembered to add search to it's service , funny !
- waiehu92, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Now the only feature I'm left to be envious of in other RSS readers is the "left pane expander" in bloglines...
- waiehu92, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0the one where you can drag to widen so you can read the feed titles...
- God, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'd really like to be able to browse my gmail account through Google Reader. I hope that's coming soon.
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Google needs a search engine for google
- junggle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I love google reader for it's simplicity and usability. I use it on my tablet laptop as well as desktop computer and I have all my feeds in one place, easily accessible, highly usable (as all google apps).
I was always wondering why there is no search capability and now it's there.
Thanks google!!! Another step towards perfection. - diggdeep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is great, but it seems not to be available on the mobile version. I'd like to see a downloadable mobile app for Google Reader like the one for Gmail too...
- Hypoviax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Google seem to be slow rolling out new changes for Google Apps accounts... still no search in my Google reader :(
- Dohko_Xar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just found this story by searching "google reader search" in my Google Reader :)
- kungpoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You were always able to hide the sidebar by pressing 'u'. Has anyone else noticed a bouncy sidebar bug in safari?
- softfacade, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Search? Where?
