- LexisNexis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why was he searching for "corn"? I think he meant "porn".
- whistle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1direct link to the screenshot.

http://qster.com/2005/12/20/new-google-search-ui/ - Keir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By reading the title of this I thought they were actually doing something significant.
I don't see what the big fuss is about. Google.com (The site, and Logo) look so old. Simple yes, but they could achieve simple and up-to-date easily enough.
Next time, how about you alert us when something worthwhile actually changes, and not that they moved part of the navigation to the left hand side?
Absolutly no digg. - sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that would be sick
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its not porn its prOn
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^ need to be signed in, i saw it last night, i dont like it, someone just needs to ajax it so we can customize colors and ill be happy.

Anyway, this really isn't anything new... - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As long as it stays simple, im happy. It would be great if you could use a picture as its background. Or at least change it from White to something more easy to look at..,
- emostar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw this too... and for me it was to the right of the search input box and it was a drop down list of all the services to search. I prefer the way it is know, it is easy to switch between them (especially when using Google Desktop)
- CanuckMakem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its so radical... erm... not really
- eklitzke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The page changed for me this morning.
- mzhao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw this a few weeks ago. I prefer the current interface; this new concept is ugly.
- periwinkle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From TFA: "...but I don't understand what the graphs are telling me yet,"
The graphs are telling you how many results there are in each specialized search you pop rocket. - heatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I got this quite a while ago and took a screenshot then:
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/5016/google9bi.jpg - allenu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet they're doing this so that they can scale the interface more easily in the future. I mean, if they keep adding useful features, they won't run out of room if they list the links to the features in a column form as opposed to a horizontal list in the current UI.
- nickster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I posted about this yesterday, but didn't have a story to go with it I just linked to the Google Search Page.

If you read the comments I included a picture - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now its a bit cluttered
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, definitely a step backwards. They need to hire some Media Center designers. that ***** rocks.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wish they'd add a popup icon so we could popup the search results to a new tab or window without having to hold CTRL or SHIFT, or using a UserScript.
- laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like garbage, smarter idea would be to have a straight bar below the search box or at the very very top of the page
- zamolxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they should stop messing with a good thing. The uncluttered interface is partly why people liked google to begin with.
- vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Wish they'd add a popup icon so we could popup the search results to a new tab or window without having to hold CTRL or SHIFT, or using a UserScript."
middle-click?
of course it looks cluttered, the picture has a tiny resolution and it's got the sponsered links on the right - BluParadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They're just doing testing on how the new interface affects users ability to find what they're looking for...
- Bretso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a big change. I don't understand all the complaints. In fact, it could be quite useful at times.
The page is still simple and easy to read.
If you dont like it... get the "Nuke Anything Enhanced" extension in for Firefox :) and just nuke that box on the left. So sad for you IE users. - quicksilver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't really see how it's a step backwards. Looks to me just an add on of the page rank. Though it does look clutter.
- dasch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope they're giong away from their ancient table-based markup and use more semantically correct HTML.
- uWergo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i thought i was going crazy when i first saw that on google o.o
- squirrelnuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like it the way it has been. This new design makes the page too cluttered.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hate it ;p
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And God said unto Google, "Go out and become the same as Yahoo!". And so it was done.
Amen.
I expected that Google's stripped down design was going to get more and more enhanced. That comes with growth. I just hope that it doesn't become the navigational clusterfark Yahoo has become. - mrm52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If they are going to have the sections on the side they might as well list of all of them. They have the real estate to do that and not have the "more" button.
- waldo21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yesterday afternoon the next page button stopped working for me for an hour or so. Really dang annoying. The only thing that was clickable was the stupid add next to the page list.
- Patrick_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny, I noticed this a few days ago... it changed back, however. It's ugly as heck. If Google makes the move... it'll be a bad move. digg++ anyway
- CunningLinguist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://goototal.blogspot.com/
this is my favorite way to google - xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0at least.... google suggest still looks NORMAL!
space, submit and thats how a search page should look like :) - Smily, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think it's a good idea because I guess most of the people searching on google automatically look to the left for titles (at least I do), so with the change, you would expect to view a title, but instead you get some graphs that you'll not usually use. As LAUGHTERKILLSME said earlier, it would be a better idea to move it under the search bar on the top of the page horizontally or they could move it on the right of the search box arranged in 2-3 rows as I assume that would just fill up the blank space that's there, instead of making new blank space.
There :) - nazzdeq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0
No digg. Whoopity *****. Google know's jack about UI and usability. Whole interface is lame anyway. Have you seen the Google Video site? A bunch of PhD's ? They need to hire some designers. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Maybe not ugly as hell, but I do think its a step backwards.
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks ugly as hell, honestly. A step backwards.
- pksynths, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Google's been testijng that UI for a few weeks now. Only difference I see now is that they added PageRank to the left handside menu. Pagerank doent really show relevancy so I cant see what they are trying to accomplish displaying it.
Anyway this is an old story.
