You're right! It does look fake!
It almost looks as if it is a drawing that someone submitted to an international design competition! - Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Cliff stealing other peoples subs as usual. http://digg.com/world_news/WATERWORLD_China Exact same address, so he would have been told when submitting.
He does this a LOT, not just a few coincidences, he goes through old submissions and then resubmits as his own. - burndive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Yeah, I mean, they have sail boats that can operate on the amount of wind blowing at the bottom of a quarry.
- wastednightmare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Digg, but: "This is a fine example of an ultra modern facility co-existing amongst its natural environment. " WTF is natural about a quarry???!)
- empeethree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10google got it

Does actually link to the mirror. Imagine that! - robgt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@Anrkist
It's a "design competition"entry...
Good grief - do you know how to read?
It looks awesome! - BuRz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No you dont understand the game here
In digg you need friend to be on the frontpage no matter what you submit. Its all about your network. - Zaeyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Fantastic. It's a wonderful blend of nature and archetecture. I particularly love the waterfall-looking bit. Looks as though it could have water flowing through it. I love the concept of the underwater guest areas, although the saftey concerns me. I'd love to see it built.
- jtavo100, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Any idea on the likelyhood of it actually being built?
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a nice looking design but I wonder how well sailboats would actually fare in a hole like that.
- mzwaterski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5and it was only dugg 29 times. I didn't see it. I'm glad it was reposted.
- krypton24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what happens when it rains? lol
- Thuktun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ever seen the "reply" link?
- nx01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd like to know how they would deal with the issues of permafrost, and of course earthquakes. China being very prone to both and all.
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So that's what Fred Flintstone was doing
- MacTheMachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Definitely productive land use for something that is normally considered a blight of the industrial world: The quarry. I do agree with alot of Diggers opinions that the US isn't stepping up to the architectural plate and contributing more to excellent function and design.
Perhaps with the new World Trade Center complex in New York City, we will see something that us Americans can be proud of. - athlonmj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3His Digg made it to the front page and yours didn't, and because his is on the frontpage, a lot of us will actually see it. I'm tired of all this whining *****. Life isn't fair.
/hides - Ludm11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fantastic.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks awesome - ok to make a drawing but I doubt it will materialize.
- lovek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the right price!
- JohnnyHuh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They'll probably just install some huge ass fans to create some fake wind.
- axox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why "did" the poster feel the need to put quotation marks around the "word" quarry?
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's awesome! Very sustainable way of using the huge holes in the ground after mining companies have finished digging the quarries... another idea would be to crate a huge container to store nuclear waste. (there are huge holes like that in Australia, where the government has been mining Uranium, and then it wonders why we have a nuclear waste issue... geez)
- biiscit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't know much about dubai's architects, but most of China's latest designs and buildings are from European architects; for example Shanghai's new airport, Beijing's new airport, and many of the Olympic arenas, not to mention some of the latest skyscrapers. It's not that the United States isn't willing to "innovate", it's just that other countries are willing to shell out the money. After all, they don't have a war sucking out their lifeline.
- timmyallen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1most of us look at this and think this is many a year off, having been to China myself, i can defiantly see this happening within the next 5 years.
- samKreuzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think there is no wind for the sailing ships in that hole... :P
- ben51959, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure, it looks cool now... until the Ents come!
- ah802, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pointless view of the other side of the hole..from the image one might get the impression of great vistas, instead you see the undeveloped side of the pit. The drawing seems to show a structure that resembles a waterfall, nice touch but for what purpose? This design would be more at home on the side of a cliff.
- rodgerdodger5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont know but I would like to meet MAMBOO THE COOLHUNTER.
- SNACKeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here are some nice Biggie-Sized images:

http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/news_images/1000%20Atkins%20Songjiang%20Night.jpg - jmchez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I FEEL VIOLATED !
Worse yet, his submission garnered more diggs than my own. Guess my title wasn't catchy enough? - jmchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try and see where the architects are from. It's like in Dubai, all the great skyscrapers are of American or British design.
- LoJack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1naw ... them stupid chop sueys can never design or build something like that. must have stolen from some american firm. darn chinese spies. where is nsa when you need 'em...
- mrtravel, on 07/06/2009, -0/+0more china travel, please visit: http://www.chinatravelbeijing.com/Hotels/
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2They also have pebble-bed nuclear reactors. Look them up, the design is ingenious. If the core temperature rises too high, the distance between fuel pellets increases and the temperature raises. You can literally remove all coolant and the reactor will not shut down.
- rfidguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From the article:"This is a fine example of an ultra modern facility co-existing amongst its natural environment"
Not really a natural environment since quarries are made from Man made excavation but a great way to redeem an eyesore that has outlived its useful purpose. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+0http://www.sanantoniohotelonline.com/san-antonio-h ... is also a well designed and beautiful hotel
- Oceas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's good to know the rest of the world has an imagination, and is still innovating. WTF are we doing in the US that is so incredible? Every time I see a link like this, it's in some other country. Pathetic.
- littlebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is amazing.... i would go to china just to stay there for a little while. Can those guys help me design my house too?
- toxonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would be cool, especially for rock climbing. Deep water soloing in rock quarries is fun. Might get kind of cold though. I don't know if there would be much wind down there in a quarry.
- visionunion, on 07/10/2008, -0/+0more China design in my blog: http://www.visionunion.net/
- jangeloca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think its a great looking concept drawing , if I lived in Asia I think I would be more then tempted to make a trip and check it out.
- nancy12345, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0here are also some other info about hotel in china http://www.a1chinahotels.com/
- axia1g, on 04/26/2008, -0/+0Looks very good. http://onlinehotelsreservations.net
- suman78, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Seriously...those chinese are far ahead of everyone....
