- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Who would have guessed that people living in the 1700s were insane?

This one is my favourite!! Brings a whole new meaning to talking out of your ass. - NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The messages kept getting larger, so the speech bubbles grew. Neat.
- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The one with the guy bending over with his butt exposed is very Pythonesque.
now he just needs a long trumpet. - Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If it's considered "art," it's legal.
...At least that's what you'll tell your boss. - tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8God revenge my Cavs !
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6but today's get the point across more easily.

- Yashu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think I like them better back when speech had depth and perspective. Modern balloons may be very efficient at conveying words, but perhaps there is para language that could be represented by something more?
- Waltezmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would like to see him deliberately post something retarded, and see if it's dugg to the homepage.
- tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and then...

Im sure there are a bunch of old rpg games that had baloons also. - heinous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If anyone is interested, the Aztecs (in works called codices commissioned by Europeans) had their own kind of "text bubbles" called speech scrolls. They look like little bits of wind coming out of the mouths of the speakers, and were generally drawn the same shape. These were done between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Take a look at these sample pages for examples: http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/codex-mendoza.htm
The wikipedia on codices (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztec_codices) indicates that the codices were never intended to communicate speech, but this opinion is contested by more contemporary scholarship. - NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Im amazed someone with all of these old 'comics' knows how to install a scanner...
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4nlol
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5old school speech bubbles are way more creative then todays
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A para language you say?
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Comic Life has cool bubbles.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's seems to be a decapitation theme in those pics. Plus there's one with a house falling on a cat for some reason.
- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@alej744: if you look at the following images for example, you can clearly see that they weren't scanned at a resolution high enough to prevent the ugly scaling. *****.

- eloqerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check out the speech balloon on this Mr. Alligator widget!
http://digg.com/apple/Mr_Alligator_Widget - lancesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The bottom line is people have ridiculous things to say and that artists for hundreds of years haven't figured out a more elegant way to express this than sheets of paper or puffs of smoke sprouting out of people's mouthes. I find it ironic that for all pains these artists went to get the perspective, color or proportions right, they then just slapped those speech bubbles on. Comical.
- diggerdoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use CleverCaption.com to put speechballoons onto George Bush's photos all the time! Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, too - anyone with a dumb look on their face, really. No degree in dead romance languages needed!
- TheBlackLeopard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0The evolution of speech balloons is a lot like the evolution of Michael Jackson's face. They've been enlargened, streched, whitened and had most of the curves and twists removed in order to be easily identified. Although while speech balloons tend to come out of the mouths of little boys the opposite is true for MJ.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1grrrrr KEVIN!!

- davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Awesome. But the guy who made this needs to know how to scan better.

If the sentence is long, it would go off page easily... - Firemeboy, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5It wasn't evolution, it was intelligent design.
Wait, wrong thread. Sorry... - NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Feck, double post. sorry.
