http://www.go2web20.net/ - radicaldementia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Gotta love all those web2.0 names. nimbuzz, tooklater, askeet, bloggoggle, chuquet, loopt, are these sites run by dyslexic 10 year olds?
- chidade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If it was really promoting Web2.0, that website would be designed with Ajax and not Flash.
- adfsj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I didn't know web 2.0 was so slow (the link), I guess it must be the futuristic lack of net neutrality :(
- wasauce, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Interesting that the actual website Go2Web20.net was submitted to digg something like a few months ago but it took the tech crunch article to make it to the front page.
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Why is he getting dugg down? He's making a good point. A link to the actual content doesn't make the front page, but this crappy, non-informative blog that links to it does?
"Go2Web20.net is a very nicely designed Flash page with logos and basic informatioin for most web 2.0 companies. Click on a logo to see an overview of the company and links from blogs discussing it. It’s also sortable and searchable. Very nice."
Wow. That's some pretty great stuff right there. Misspellings included. ;/ - digitalgopher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This is pretty cool! Very nice! and I like the pull down filtering feature. It would be cool if the site designer made the logos/squares bigger (i.e pop out a bit) when you scroll over each box... and maybe even include a one sentence description of each as you scroll over them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Can someone explain to me what exactly defines a site as Web2.0? Always thought it was a fairly arbitrary term
Not being facetious, genuinely asking :) - Bjorn2404, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Stop with all this web 2.0 *****!
But don't take my word for it, here's Tim Berners-Lee on the topic:
When asked if it's fair to say that the difference between the two might be fairly described as "Web 1.0 is about connecting computers, while Web 2.0 is about connecting people," Berners-Lee replied, "Totally not. Web 1.0 was all about connecting people. It was an interactive space, and I think Web 2.0 is of course a piece of jargon, nobody even knows what it means. If Web 2.0 for you is blogs and wikis, then that is people to people. But that was what the Web was supposed to be all along. And in fact, you know, this 'Web 2.0,' it means using the standards which have been produced by all these people working on Web 1.0."

No Digg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I believe Techcruch should pay to digg.
He makes a million dollars a year!
http://digg.com/tech_news/Techcrunch.com_is_a_Millionaire - Jacksc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wish it wasnt made with flash. I cant open in tabs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Quit spamming, just link to the page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"and since then it has become a popular, though *ill-defined* and often criticized, buzzword amongst the technical and marketing communities."
Still non the wiser to be honest, just seems to be a collection of things that have been around for a long time put together and re-branded - zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What the diff with 1.0 and 2.0. All the same stuff with little more flashy looking sites.
just graphics are more rounded and brighter and easier to read.
just a stupid word like WiFi which have nothing to do with HiFi!
wlan0 not wifi0
- rusty100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this gets dugg? Does a web page need to be useful anymore? A bunch of "companies:" whose "owners" will soon need to find real jobs, is that what this is.
- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Ringo380 -
Totally agree with you: If I owned Digg - I would disallow this practice. I would require that any submission to a site i a direct submission - a blog blip like this is merely a trafic grabbing excecise and makes the whole practce slimy. - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You're right, it's pretty arbitrary. But it's generally used to describe anything in the "next generation" of web sites, which include just about anything that's being somewhat innovative in its use of dynamic content and usability.
Also having bubbly image design and contrasting colors is a plus. - lament, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So whens the 3.0 page coming? Or maybe the 1.0? Either way, this site serves a bare, unclear purpose, because it will be a complete web 2.0 directory. I do like the site however, but im honestly getting tired of seeing index's sprung up all over the place.
- Rageous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the hell, no Newsvine?
- Imusion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Why is MySpace on there?
- unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@wasauce
Evidence please!
but they miss a few websites like (eg. Gabbly) in chat section - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uhh...not first.
- XTheEliminator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Lets see if we can clear this up. What you're really asking is four questions what is Web 1.0, who is Web 1.0, what is Web 2.0, and who is web 2.0.
Web 1.0 is commonly known as HTML. Standards wise we're now up to HTML 4.01 and XHTML, but this is still what we refer to as Web 1.0.
Web 1.0 companies are profitable service providers left over after the first dotcom crash purged all the moronic pets.com and .com.com sites.
Web 2.0 is a registered trademark of Tim O'Reilly. He can't really pin down exactly what it is, but Web 2.0 also uses HTML 4.01 and XHTML.
A Web 2.0 startup is an internet company with no business plan which bleeds money while desperately hoping to be bought out by an idiotic octogenarian media mogul. See pets.com and .com.com. - krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1the submitter submits tons of garbage from techcrunch where it's often just a link through. marked as spam.
- HeadY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, i dont like Flash Applications, but this is a nice one :)
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9This site ROCKS!
- LizardSlayer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1placain - make sure the 1392 bytes have completely downloaded. There is no scroll bar, so click under the "please wait while loading logos..." and scroll with your mouse.
smugmug appears as the last logo. - blankartist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The definition of Web 2.0 is any site that survived Web 1.0. I'm not being cocky, there's real truth to that. Think about it.
- chafikb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Many of these web 2.0 sites are just good old ideas and concepts, but with big text boxes and buttons.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have to ask this....
How many real developers (people with fulltime jobs doing web development (web developer and web designer are not the same)) actually use the term "web 2.0" in their business conversations (other than saying it's a useless term)?
My company's site is "web 2.0" by defnition but I don't use the term. I prefer to say "look at our site".
I hear someone say "web 2.0" and I automatically assume "bandwagon, fanboy, idiot". Is it just me? - tvolpe78, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21. Web 2.0 is a buzz word and doesn't have a proper definition
2. "Every Web 2.0 Company On One Page" - Pretty bold use of the word every... there are 250 or so listed... give me a break, you know how many web companies in the world there are? I didn't see any of the companies in London that I know - placain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ok, maybe I'm retarded, but how do you scroll to see the ones that don't fit on your screen? I can only make the window so big - and more keep appearing the bigger I make it...
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Except those have ads spammed all over their sites, while GoWeb20.net has none. That's reason enough for me to digg it.
Not to mention that the design is infinitely better. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Acutally, the site does not rock. It's "okay" at best.
I marked this as inaccurate. I know of several companies that are not listed that are web 2.0 only.
Inaccurate. And I digg you down for saying it's the best. Fool.
I forgot to say the word "Zionist" too - noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Skeet skeet skeet!
- mashable, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Nice work!
- vafada, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0they should include all sites with forums.. isn't web 2.0 all about the user input ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3buried lame because the term 2.0 sucks
- yair, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1great design, yu were first
