http://macdesktops.com/?res=TRUE&category=385 - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Phew, good thing you mentioned they were free. I was worried I would have to pay for the wallpapers like in the old days.
- Phoenyx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Because the Slashdotters just like to comment, they don't actually ever read the articles ;)
- lostboytexas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9these links rule, lots of good stuff. thx
- steakfry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5These are desktops *by* designers, not *for* designers. Effective wallpaper *for* designers is neutral grey and as icon-free a desktop as possible so colors and compositions can be evaluated with minimal distractions. 1337 |>351g|| desktops like this may look cool, but they get in the way of actually getting this type of work done effectively.
- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@ TheD
that doesn't work either :(
[/sarcasm] - mikm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Slick. Good finds.
- aaronm67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.kottke.org/06/01/digg-vs-slashdot
Uhh, we can quote you, but you're still wrong. Being on the Slashdot front page draws 2-3x more hits then the digg front page. - bnoble, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Podnah, I know, thems was 'spensive! Durrrrrrrrrrr. Back in '99 I sold some of my drkoop.com stock and bought me like 30 of them wallpapers with the proceeds. Bestest $35,500 I ever spent!
- Empyrean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Right. I have an endless supply of backgrounds, its called Photoshop.
- RobotDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What sucks is, Some hosting companies charge you a fee if you go over your bandwidth and if you use more resources then they think you should have.. So digg is totally screwing some people who didn't even intend for there site to get to this kind of audience. fortunately most hosting companies will just disable the site that's getting more traffic then its plan can handle.
- JesseJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Designers make their own desktops, right?
- dwordle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Surely it will be back up.
- persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That one is very Web 2.0ish
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's what I was thinking. It's not just to prevent distractions, it's to prevent color skew.
For the layman: your perception of color is affected by your surroundings. Think about how standard headlights versus those ultra-bright headlights. The ultra-bright headlights look blue, and all of a sudden all those other headlights that previously looked white now look orangish. - bristolz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's something about this one that is very nice: http://www.deviantart.com/view/19794624/
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wordpress is pretty poorly written. It makes way too many database calls per page load, and by default the databases it sets up aren't even indexed.
It's no wonder they die so quickly. - Livewire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5ive always wondered why do sites go down so fast unlike slashdot? digg's still better though
- hspr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ummm, so they can check it out later . . . !
- shayne_sweeney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mandolux was the first link on that list --- my favorite too.
Also, mandolux.com works too. --- And he has an RSS feed too. - nfg05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3my laptop's resolution, 1400 x 1050, is always neglected on these wallpaper sites :(
- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3are.you.kidding.me.?????
- TimDub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very nice stuff. +digg!
- BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To make the cache go faster, click the text only button, it will load significaly faster (did for me atleast)
- jsparks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hear hear, Mesach.
If you don't have good content, people won't go to your site... "Hear me +INSERT_EVERY_FORMER_EMPLOYER_I'VE_EVER_HAD_HERE+???" - kevthecatslayer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9"Error establishing a database connection"
Why do people digg it after it is already dead? - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry about multiple posts but I was going to mirror this on my google page but I am on UPS and a laptop power because of an outage and I don't have time to set up the page before I loose power to the modem bury previous posts. (and this one)
- anagramarama, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Google cache link, to save you the time and trouble...

http://www.readersdigest.ca/wallpaper.html - headphonist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice desktops, great links. Use google cache, it works.
- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ah. That's sucks - power went out here a while ago, and I had a couple "beat the battery" moments.
In other news, give the google cache time. It does work. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great links, thanks!
- ktalinu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another great gallery: http://photos.toyoo.be/index.php
- mstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nope, just tried... "You do not have sufficent privileges to edit this site. Please contact the site administrator for access."
- apjoseph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0David Lanham's site : http://www.dlanham.com/art/ has some very good illustrations for your desktop.
- tijs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Always on the lookout for inspiring backgrounds ... thanks!
- hausome, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Damn digg is evil, they always seem to murder WordPress sites for some reason.
- thecardist, on 04/20/2009, -0/+0You don't have permission to access /blog/ on this server.
- math0ne, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Its crazy how many sites are down instantly when they make the front page of digg.
Eww! How many times am i going to have to see that stupid wordpress error page that no one bothers to customize. - SBelyea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Aaron, that information is over 2 months old.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1try http://trogdoor.googlepages.com/joeyinteractive.html
- craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Good question... of all the sites that go down due to digg, most of 'em seem to be powered by WordPress. Then again maybe it has to do with hosting providers.
All I know is my site stayed up when it got hammered by users and I'm not paying big bucks either. - richjwild, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Google cache works -
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=http://www.joeyinteractive.com/blog/?p=185 - Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3if you dont intend for your site to get this type of audience.
1. don't put it on the internet.
2. don't post things that other people might like.
3. don't post things that might get posted to sites like this where people will see it and click it.
4. wonder why you have a website in the first place if you dont want it to be seen by lots of people. - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1http://72.14.203.104.nyud.net:8080/search?q=cache:ilxi8ZotKlIJ:www.joeyinteractive.com/blog/%3Fp%3D185&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=1
tell me if this worked because if not I know how to fix it. - craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Glad to see that Mandolux made the list and at the top link nonetheless. Most of my other desktop sites are there too. Digg!
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Mirror: http://pages.google.com/edit/trogdoor/mirror
tell me if this worked because if not I know how to fix it. - Sharky, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8Aw, Digg effect.
