- Balk2K, on 01/12/2008, -4/+119I hope the logos look better than the front cover of that book...
- Reiben, on 01/12/2008, -4/+43Wow, Can we say someone's been spamming diggs/comments? Jesus Christ people.....
- BlueCyclone, on 01/12/2008, -7/+41This site is simply amazing, so many great tips. Thanks for letting us know about it!
It's really saved me a lot of trouble. I found my dog, my wife is no longer leaving me, and it looks like the chemotherapy is working!
Thank you so much, I owe you everything! - phunlee, on 01/12/2008, -2/+36Why are all the comments so 'cookie-cutter' happy?
Thanks! these tips are super-SWELL! yay! :-) ! - redhotkurt, on 01/12/2008, -2/+21Spammers. They're gaming Digg.
- debuggercll, on 01/12/2008, -3/+20I lost 200 pounds with this diet plan! Thanks logo design book! It also cured my cold sores and works wonders on possessed demon children! I have bookmarked this wonderful article!
- Zenithan, on 01/12/2008, -3/+19Well, I caught the sarcasm, anyway.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+12"Sketch out your logo first" - No *****
"Ask the company what you're making the logo for" - No *****
"Use a professional logo-making program" - No *****
"Test the logo in various sizes" - No *****
"Test the logo in various colors" - No *****
"Place the logo in text and see how it looks" - No ***** - stomachache, on 01/12/2008, -1/+8Pffff...What's with all that spamming! Ridiculous!
- Daniel591992, on 01/12/2008, -3/+9The logo wasn't what made those logos successful though.
- jjb123, on 01/12/2008, -1/+7clearly a fake, generic comment. Same as mikeinteractives and bradcis.
- MadOtaku, on 01/12/2008, -1/+6Ha! I have a greasemonkey script that embeds all your youtube links in the comments (with no autoplay)! Rick Roll will never get me again!
- ElGanyan, on 01/12/2008, -3/+7I love logo design but I hate spam! Buried.
- InfamousAtheist, on 01/12/2008, -2/+6Buried as spam. Stop trying to game digg people, it's totally obvious. I hope the admins ban this submitter.
- av4rice, on 01/12/2008, -7/+11"Although it can be tempting to use a program like Adobe Photoshop to design logos when starting out, mastering Adobe Illustrator and its pen tool will be essential if you are serious about logo design. Adobe Illustrator has a vector format that will allow your logo to be scaled up and down with no loss of quality"
Uh, Photoshop also has Pen Tool and vectors. Illustrator is easier to use with regards to both, but using Photoshop certainly doesn't preclude you from making a very good, infinitely scalable logo. - M4cb0y, on 01/12/2008, -1/+5Even with the vector tools Photoshop still rasterizes the image though, so, especially for text, you should probably use Illustrator if you're planning on using the logo for print (even if you bring the resolution up to 300dpi, text still doesn't look as good printed from Photoshop as it does as a true vector in Illustrator).
- neoneddy, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4Yes you are correct, photoshop now has vector tools, but as a rule I would not suggest it unless necessary. The only real reasons it be "necessary" would be to add bitmap effects, effects that won't scale well, and kind of points back to keeping the logo all vector and in illustrator.
Now I usually make a logo in illustrator then "stylize" a version in photoshop, so your simple version is a clean vector and then you get something a bit more fancy.
http://www.wavestatic.com/blog/metal-edge-photosho ... Here is a perfect example... this started as a simple 2 color vector line art, then a style applied. - smackhero, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3have you even used the pen tool in photoshop compared to illustrator? photoshop doesn't save in vector format, and while you can create vector paths on the screen you're still using a raster program and have to create a raster fill or stroke in order to set the shape into your composition.
any competent designer knows to design things like logos in illustrator in a vector format, and then export it as a rasterized image that you can touch up in photoshop for specific applications later on if needed. - Daniel591992, on 01/12/2008, -2/+5Whoops. lol
I meant company.. - 4rp4n3t, on 01/12/2008, -2/+5Um, do you see what you did there?
- HonoredMule, on 01/12/2008, -2/+4Wow, I've never seen so many sockpuppets blatantly promoting a single digg article before. Epic fail.

- zdislaw, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1If anything in this article is news to you, the final item you want to be sure to have on hand is: a designer to design your logo.
- Chirp08, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Exactly, and don't go thinking I'll make it in photoshop for now, and when it comes time to print I'll make a high res version, you will regret that. At the company I started working at I've already had to recreate 3 brand logos in Illustrator because we only had low res tifs (they were 300dpi but printed like ***** and weren't useable on anything over 8.5x11).
- SniperZ, on 01/12/2008, -4/+5If you want a real logo, hire a designer.
- av4rice, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1Photoshop can save in EPS, which is a vector format
- jaxxon, on 01/12/2008, -3/+4LOL.. I've always thought the cover was just plain WRONG! But fortunately, the logos inside are pretty good. I've had this book (an earlier version) in my library for a long time and it has been an excellent reference.
- Goobernutz, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2meh... hardly the "ultimate guide". but that's the kind of headline that gets on digg, suppose.
- yagran, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1so thats a resounding no then.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1but he said logo design... damn now I'm confused =(
- Eccohawk, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1These people exhibit exactly what I would expect to graduate from the South Park school for the mental.
1) Write down the most obvious stuff we know about the subject
2) Submit to Digg and add fake comments
3) ??
4) Profit!! - PhrosTT, on 01/12/2008, -2/+3hi alex. you suck at logo design. nobody is falling for your *****. kill yourself. that is all.
- samfishercell, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1I'm actually surprised at the tips and advice in this post. They won't help someone become a rockstar designer, but holy cow it's a heck of a lot better than most 'design advice' that gets posted on digg.
So yes, this may be common knowledge -- but some people could, and should take it to heart ... like all those logo designing MORONS over at worth1000. (Btw - those logo contests are a great pick-me-up for any designer when they're feeling blue. HILARIOUS. ) - yagran, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1i like fireworks.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Everyone just block the ***** spammers
- imredesign, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0a logo design helps the company build trust with its customers if a company has a low quality logo its to be less trusted this a professional logo digg this-http://digg.com/design/Logo_Design_From_Imre_Desig ...
- nubloo, on 01/21/2008, -0/+0oh please.
- BASboyblair, on 01/22/2008, -0/+0Wow. I half disagree. Just like you can't teach someone how to be funny, you can't teach them how to design. BUT, there are rules and ideas as to what makes for a pleasing design and what helps to make something funny. Guidelines. It is being able to take the guidlines and make them your own that makes you good. So I disagree that tips are useless.
- MacGyver2210, on 01/12/2008, -4/+4At least they're not posting Rick Roll links anymore...and if someone replies to this with a Rick Roll link so help me...
- nubloo, on 01/21/2008, -0/+0Preloading the 2nd image might help.
- rasterbator, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1One more thing that can be a powerful force in today's society… a web site that doesn't choke on digg's chicken.

- smackhero, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1i actually like that site. a lot of those books look pretty interesting. but, man, they need to hire a web designer who knows how to do proper CSS rollovers.
- infonine, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0logo is a big farcor for a company but these tips might not work. if you serious about your logo, you should work with your designer.

- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -1/+1***** too much happiness.
btw ***** book cover so no reason to read its knowledge about design. - groukhomovsky, on 01/13/2008, -0/+0Exact. Even if logos look like this one, they are sometimes they are viewed as "good" logos. Don't ask me why... I dunno :S
