Design Inspiration from Vintage Ads
abduzeedo.com — A few days ago I was working on a project that needed some Vintage Images, like old ads. I decided to look for them on the web, more precisely at Flickr.com. After like 5 hours I had found so many images that I had to stop or else I would spend the rest of my life viewing them. Here are some of these amazing ads I found...

- mumblingmynah, on 01/18/2008, -3/+37Nugget of vintage wisdom: "Blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere."

That's my favorite. The girl in the image is beautiful and I love the artistic style of it.- drouk1556, on 01/18/2008, -0/+5If you're referring to the girl on the left, take a seat. What are you doing here?
- fxu1989, on 01/18/2008, -1/+2I love vintage.
Grunge, torn/worn, old, black&white ..
I also have a great collection of vintage porn on one of my hard-drives... gotta find it. - xstarsprinklesx, on 01/18/2008, -1/+1I love Rockwell, but doesn't the family on the DuMont TV ad look a bit counterproductive to selling TVs in an age when people thought they'd turn you into an idiot?
- drethedog, on 01/18/2008, -1/+1"Putney Swope" = WTF!
- gemlogger, on 01/18/2008, -2/+5The first bunch were from back in the day when they needed real money to run a war. Now they just print more.
- RobLiefeld, on 01/18/2008, -8/+1Those wars back in the day aren't as righteous as our war against Iraq. It's necessary to print more money for our war against terror.
- PeppermintPig, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1And that's how people justify theft and murder.
- RobLiefeld, on 01/18/2008, -8/+1Those wars back in the day aren't as righteous as our war against Iraq. It's necessary to print more money for our war against terror.
- woofers07, on 01/18/2008, -3/+5I saw vintage, but no inspiration.
- latrosicarius, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1Last pic = wtf?
- Stuart750, on 01/18/2008, -3/+1Awww, look at all the nice propagan-dized white children.... Aren't they cute...
- SteelChicken, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1awww, look at the poor self-loathing person

http://www.chrisdixonstudios.com/ajdgallery/images ... - KidOsiris, on 01/18/2008, -1/+3That baby is badass. I wish I had a beard.
Then perhaps chicks would "digg" me.....maybe..- Commonwealth, on 01/18/2008, -0/+3Man, you should have specified where you wanted your beard. Now Satan is going to give you an ass-beard.
- Annesgreat, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1I think vintage ads are amazingly inspiring. More links to cool ad archives here: http://www.hotcards.com/run-a-vintage-print-ad-cam ...
- cozb, on 01/18/2008, -2/+0best blog of vintage scans from science / tech magazines:
http://blog.modernmechanix.com/ - scyform, on 01/18/2008, -0/+3For digestion's sake, smoke camels! For some reason the vintage tobacco ads are my favorite; an era where doctors would diagnose you with "not enough smooth flavor" and send you on your way with a carton of cowboy killers...
- antdude, on 01/18/2008, -1/+1http://abduzeedo.com.nyud.net/inspiration-vintage- ...
- DAAaaN07, on 01/18/2008, -0/+4Dugg for ''If you blow in her face, she will love you forever."
- dlinkwit27, on 01/18/2008, -0/+3I love the "blow in her face, she'll follow you anywhere ad. Has that ever worked?
- michaelb1, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1I just bought a Merkur Safety razor similar to that Gillette in the ad. It's gives an awesome shave and cheaper then the Mach3.
- UPGR4Y3DD, on 01/18/2008, -2/+1These are poor examples of vintage ads. Personally, I feel some of the best vintage ads are foreign.
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1cool post. if you are into it, Taschen books has a series of vintage advertising books organized by decade. each volume is a phonebook of vintage ads. really the best archive you'll find anywhere. Any library should have it. Research shouldn't start and end with the internet.
- SwedishNinja, on 01/18/2008, -6/+2Man I wish we had a cool war like WW2 again :(
- Slackdragon, on 01/18/2008, -0/+6Are you ***** kidding? People can't handle the MINOR nosebleed that is the Iraq war! True, WWII was shorter, but it was a meat-grinder. More soldiers died in a MONTH of WWII than all of the Iraq war. People today are far too pussified to handle something like that.
Back then, my grandparents were actually sacrificing their way of life to win a conflict. At home and on the front line. At home they were cutting back on meat and sugar and aluminum and other day-to-day goods. Today ***** are bitching and whining every single day about a war that doesn't impact their lives a SINGLE bit other than what they read on a blog or an RSS feed. They still have their iPod and their iPhone and sip their latte at Starbucks and Digg up stories on their new Macbook Air. Oh, the sacrifice of our generation! My heart bleeds!
We're a bunch of spoiled pussies who wouldn't know how to sacrifice a thing for the greater good if we had to.
Be careful what you wish for. You might get a "cool war" one day.

- fzagruzny, on 01/18/2008, -0/+0the last one is hilarious... that's the most awkward baby i've ever seen
dugg. - Ica7us, on 01/18/2008, -0/+2so by the title of this submission "Design inspiration from vintage ads" I must admit I expected an old ad, then a new ad that was in some way inspired by the older one. Bummer. Stilly dugg, because it's not political unless you live in the 40's, despite what gemlogger has to say.
- Chirp08, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1yeah, as a designer I'm interested in what he derived from his research and what his end product ended up being. Design wise, the Southern Flight ad really jumps at me, great use of negative space.
- Tinendo, on 01/18/2008, -0/+2This kids scare me.
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1I love vintage ads, they are very beautiful. Looking at these reminds me of Mad Men, which is a damn good show for those who haven't seen it
