- Djokuuskaj, on 01/04/2008, -7/+181does anyone else see a plain old dell monitor hiding behind a thing glass screen with some speakers in it?
- Roger, on 01/04/2008, -4/+151Why the hell must they build speakers into monitors?
- AZTriGuy, on 01/04/2008, -6/+98Well, it's beautiful, yes. But, a 22-inch LCD with 1680x1050? Why no 1920x1200? A monitor that size is just screaming for that resolution. Hell, my 17" laptop runs 1920x1200. And, while it is visually stunning, $1,100 is a bit much for my blood when you can get a "standard" Dell 22" monitor for $300. Here's to things to come, eventually this type of design will filter down to less-cost models.
- D3koy, on 01/04/2008, -5/+60Beautiful monitor, shame they had to go and put speakers on it...
- Gizza, on 01/04/2008, -4/+54Most 22-inch are that resolution. It usually 24 and above that get the 1920x200 and higher resolutions.
Also, is anyone else of the opinion that this is one of the ugliest LCD monitors they've ever seen? - 1ofMany, on 01/04/2008, -4/+48Why the hell must they build *worthless* speakers into monitors?
- sundancekid503, on 01/04/2008, -12/+52$1199 and it doesn't do 1920x1200? That's weak! Looks like a fingerprint magnet anyways.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -1/+32Looks like they glue a big glass plate to an ok-size lcd. I'll pass.
- overkilpro, on 01/04/2008, -0/+30and without the glass frame, ***** monitor, and speakers it would just be $1,199 in your poket
- truspect0r, on 01/04/2008, -9/+36How is that pretty? And those sharp edges. Eww
- volvinator, on 01/04/2008, -4/+30I do, I do. Honestly I think it's.... well....... ugly!
- CraigJ, on 01/04/2008, -3/+24Really not that hot, a huge glass border and build in speakers... yuck. For that kind of jack I'd rather get one of these: UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC 30-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD
- dezman2003, on 01/04/2008, -3/+22without the speakers built in it would just be a monitor with a glass frame.
- euro22, on 12/17/2008, -6/+25If that little logo in the bottom said "Apple" instead of "Dell" people would be drooling all over it like it was a naked Jessica Alba.
- ChromaVita, on 01/04/2008, -2/+19Without the display it would be a glass frame with ***** speakers built in.
- musicpyrite, on 01/04/2008, -1/+18without the glass frame this would be just another ***** monitor + speakers combo.
- Tenoq, on 01/04/2008, -0/+14I'd rather spend that sort of money on an LCD with no frame than one with an over-sized one. It's bad enough having nearly an inch of blank space between my monitors - why would I want a foot? :P
- tidu, on 01/04/2008, -4/+15Dell: uncovering the tangled mess of wires behind your monitor since 2008
- Giblet2, on 01/04/2008, -4/+15I think its ugly, if anyone has enough money for one of these, they surely have a nicer speaker system than the monitor has built in. Its basically a standard monitor with a glass bezel coming off the side with useless crap.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -0/+10oh ***** were in the future already
- thedragon4453, on 01/04/2008, -0/+101. Glue a glass frame to dell monitor.
2. build in [*****] speakers
3. ???
4. Profit! - DaveClarkOne, on 01/04/2008, -0/+10THAT is not pretty. It's like putting a different shade of lipstick on a pig...
- voetsjoeba, on 01/04/2008, -0/+9It's not actually that uncommon. 1920x1200 is usually done on 24" to 27" models. Running 1920x1200 would require a less-than-optimal dot pitch, which most people find to be annoying as it makes text tiny and thus hard to read for some.
- Darrelc, on 01/04/2008, -7/+16I've got a 20 Inch 1680x1050 and I find the text a little hard to read, I Can't imagine what it would be like on a 17" monitor. Id say 1680 is pretty appropriate going by what its like on a 20inch monitor. I imagine it would look sweet on a 22inch one.
Another little thing is it wouldn't be too good for dual monitor setups with all the space on the monitor. - Giblet2, on 01/04/2008, -0/+9nope same info same pictures.
- likwidfuzion, on 01/04/2008, -6/+15Since when is tempered glass = plexi glass? Buried.
- RedS0x, on 01/04/2008, -5/+1324" iMac...it will set you back $1,799 but you get a computer, too.
- davidrools, on 01/04/2008, -0/+8http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displa ...
more info/pix and link to buy - voetsjoeba, on 01/04/2008, -0/+722" PVA with a 2ms response time? Don't think so. That just screams TN.
- Apoc, on 01/04/2008, -0/+7The fact that someone is willing to pay 1200 bucks for a monitor like this.
- evil-doer, on 01/04/2008, -2/+9so basically all of that wasted space is just for looks and holding those crappy little speakers? sorry but i like functionality over crap like this.
- Zilk, on 01/04/2008, -1/+8I'd rather have a Cintiq.
- iDealL, on 01/04/2008, -2/+8beautiful? no my friend thats hideous..
- JAKN, on 01/04/2008, -0/+6doing it right now - works fine.
you sit closer to a laptop than you do a larger screen - voetsjoeba, on 01/04/2008, -0/+6I'd much rather have the 2407WFP back instead of getting this one :/
- musicpyrite, on 01/04/2008, -3/+9a ***** ugly one at that
- JoeB4ever, on 01/04/2008, -1/+6Looks like a Sony XBR
- TremorX, on 01/04/2008, -0/+5Have it back? It's still available, at $700 (and worth every penny)
- alexidigg, on 01/04/2008, -0/+5sorry guys, i musta been high when i wrote that. 1) i hate dells cuz of bad experiences with the one i had to get for school and the spyware issue dell had a little while back and 2) this monitor is basically vista in monitor form. tries too hard to be eyecandy and doesn't even get that.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -2/+7You would think some outside thinking designer could find his way through the dell ranks to give their current designers a few good looking prototype drawings.......but no......It's like dell wants to produce luxury but is limited because the designers only know how to use plastic and glass. These types of designs were stylish in maybe the 90's but not now.
- rcw3, on 01/04/2008, -1/+6Ouch! Who the heck do they have designing these things? How hard is it to make a good looking LCD? And bad specs to boot.
- lostarchitect, on 01/04/2008, -1/+6uh, the imac is glass. so is the iphone.
- 1ofMany, on 01/04/2008, -1/+5In 2 years this is going to look SOOOO dated and ridiculous.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -1/+5I was considering buying a 15" dell laptop with 1920x1200. Imagine trying to read text on that.
- reddevil3, on 01/04/2008, -2/+6It can be helpful. I bought a Samsung 22" monitor which has component inputs to be used for my 360 and Wii. I am glad it has speakers even though they are crappy...otherwise I would have had to buy extra converters and what not to get the sound working.
- Uranium118, on 01/04/2008, -3/+7Speakers are useless, most people who buy these monitors already have 5.1 if not 7.1 audio systems.
- superkendall, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4Well, if you're trying to save space and reduce the rats nest of wiring it can be a really good idea to have speaker integrated. But I do wonder what the quality it like.
- LeeSoong, on 01/04/2008, -2/+6So what, it's a monitor with a plastic frame.
Now - show me a monitor that looks like smoked glass,
and when you turn it on you see the image forward from the front and reversed from the back - THAT would be cool. - zdiggler, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4I buried the link on topic as blog spam but digg your link though
- Sirsri, on 01/04/2008, -4/+81680x1050 is the standard resolution for 22" panels, 1920x1200 doesn't kick in until the 24's.
This looks to me like a TN panel though (18 bit + dithering rather than true 24 bit colour) which for the price makes it a no buy. For that price I could get a 24 inch panel at your aforementioned 1920x1200 and a decent surround sound system with proper colour reproduction. -
