Darth Vader, Your Ferrari-Baiting Lexus Is Almost Ready
news.windingroad.com — Spy shooters have captured some fresh new images of Lexus' LF-A supercar on Germany's legendary Nurburgring. The aggressively-styled mule looks for all the world like what Darth Vader from Star Wars would drive, but it might just include a hybrid variant from Toyota when it launches. In either case, a gas-only V-10 version with 500+ hp is assured.

- championc, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13It has beautiful proportions. I love the roof-line!
- hoppdawg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Except for the front end headlights, but hey, its still a prototype. The profile definitely has similar lines to the supra.
- AntBing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14It looks better here.
http://www.lexus.com/fcv/lf_a.html - raynar, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1it looks like a crappy rice burner. I was expecting something along the lines of those crappy prototypes that never come out.
BURIED. - webcrumb, on 10/11/2007, -7/+4Looks like a Celica with a body kit. You can even see the Toyota marque space on the nose.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2The front of that thing is hideous. It is a prototype, but damn. Also, why a V10? There is no advantage over a V8.
- TheKricket, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6"I suppose, we should at least be cordial. My name is KITT, originally designed with Series 2000 circuitry."
- Pile, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6UGLY... Looks like a Nissan.
- CrankyPants, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That's no car!

- sexycommando, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I want my Ferrari cake!
- SiRwhilms, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I hope I can get the limited edition "Winding Road" decal in big ugly red letters on mine.
- Hardcase, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Look out Ferrari? I don't think so - I see a fairly typical three door coupe with a body kit. No doubt there's fancy schmancy stuff going on inside, but, at least in the looks department, it's only a tad bit above "typical" to me. It's a 350ZX or a Supra with some doo-dads bolted on.
- wrestlingnrj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1@hoppdawg/hardcase: It looks extremely similar to the MKIV Supra, infact may I dare say that it is the New Supra, just under a Lexus tag?
- robdiggity, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6"Ferraris do not concern me Admiral, I want that car, not excuses."
- D. Vader - OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4
what Darth Vader from Star Wars would drive
Don't know why you're getting dug down, since Lexus is a division of Toyota. Makes sense to me. - swankboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually you're all wrong. Looks like they ripped off a design from one of the Burnout! Revenge.
- darkNiGHTS, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphotos.cfm/country/jcf/spyphotoID/6070612.003/lexus/lexus-lf-a-uncovered
This site has better pictures. - RiceCzechs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I can't wait to see if Lexus' performance initiative can birth some enthusiast cars that offer genuine soul. I'm quite sure that the raw numbers will be present and accounted for, but it will be something else if cars like this LF-A and the IS-F feel special and manage to truly connect with drivers on emotional level.
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Sure this isn't an outtake from the new Transformers movie?
- joaob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3As nice as this looks....the undisguised version of this car doesn't look as aggressive or good.
- sofaKing812, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27I saw the word Darth Vader, clicked on the story, and was let down. Good eff'n morning.
- beavioso, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I second that. I fail to see how this has anything to do with Darth Vader or a Ferrari (it's not even red [/joke]). Oh, well... literary license and all or to each his own, blah blah blah.
- anztac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Wait, Darth Vader *from Star Wars*?? Perhaps there is some other Darth Vader I am not aware of?
- ZaNkY, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@anztac
There's a Darth Vader in Back to the future...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darth_Vader#Cultural_figure - OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Zanky, I guess that's part of that rather selfish tradition of Lucas and Spielberg sticking Easter Eggs in each other's movies.

This is Vader's car- Listor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Vader would drive that car.....Only difference is that the seats would be covered in Ewok fur.
- EricAnderton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@Listor: well, it is a Maybach after all. They could probably do that for real.
- alexology, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1That looks more like Batmans car...

- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Maybach is more like something the Emperor would drive. Er... have someone drive him around in.
- jimmy72, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Yep, Vader's car alright.
The Lexus looks Supra-inspired. V-10, that should piss off the tree hugging eco-pansies. I'd like to see it in full race configuration. Forza 2 anyone?
- alexology, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6hopefully gas will still be under $10 a gallon by the time this thing comes out...
- Downtime, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5It looks like a Toyota Celica from the front; no thanks. Great headline though!
- s1mph0ny, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Looks more like a nissan 300 to me.

- jeffeb3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3That's what I thought when I saw these newer, sleek style cars. I was thinking bold, square lines like the ones on all the starships for darth vadar.
Something from a generation far far away.... - codyman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Vader wouldn't be caught dead in that pile of *****.

because a lot of people are stupid? - goat2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1or because the car is fantastic and is sporty and sexy as *****
- codyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_GNX#Grand_National_and_GNX
"The acceleration performance of the GNX outpaced the factory's power claims: 0-60 mph (97 km/h) took just 4.7 s with a 13.4 s/104 mph (167 km/h) quarter-mile."
"A contemporary Porsche 930 hit 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 13.6 seconds, roughly equivalent to the GNX, which cost much less and could out-accelerate the naturally-aspirated 911 of the day. Ironically, many believe that these performance numbers were the reason the GNX was axed. GM didn't want one of its own cars outperforming its flagship, the Corvette, and pulled the plug on the Buick program." - OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1'69 Camaro.
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2hey, my boss drives a grand national. i'd never heard of them before i met him, but he loves that car. his is all black and tinted too. he had to get a secondary ignition installed under the seat though, cuz when he used to live in LA it kept getting stolen by cholos who'd take it for joy rides. i'm guessing the raiders sticker in the back didn't help. nor the fact that it was also lowered.
never associated it with darth vader, but now that you mention it, there is an odd resemblance. neat car.
- mphree, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Dugg because you managed to get Darth-Vader, Ferrari and Lexus in the title.
@goat2, No, that is a heroine addicts car. - Moriya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure about this one. I like the clean lines from the side, but then it looks like they tried to shove as much crap as they could on the tail (spoiler and 3 triangular grouped exhausts?). Don't get me started on the front. The way Lexus has been building lately, I'm sure it will drive like a dream, but I like my sports cars with a little character.
- PooPooEgg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is one nice looking car.
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I looks *****

- ipxodi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Agreed. Vader's would burn the body fluids of Ewoks for its motive power

thank you. - sdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Lexus LF-A = 500bhp + ???lbft torque from a v8(or 10)
Maybach Exelero =690bhp + 753lbft torque from a v12
... either way Vader goes, the force is strong with this one(s) - steveooo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen.. saying that in the same sentence as ferrari is ridiculous.
- insanebrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0whow. . . it's . . it's. . . . .. a car.
- bluefirestarter, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Going by everything else Lexus has ever done this will be the most boring and soulless 500 hp car ever
- BDLAMB, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It looks like a new Nissan.
- theFuzzyWarble, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Darth Vader? Someone needs a new bag of correlations. Buried for 'Needy Attention Whoreness'.
- youdlike2know, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3wow a production rice rocket.. now all i need to do is slap some decals on it to make it go even faster
- Woolis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Other then the Supra, when was the last time that Toyota actually designed a car that looked good?
I've seen good looking Toyota's, but they're shameless rip-offs of other car designs. (yeah, I'm talking to you Camry; sorry BMW, Toyota liked your rear too much) - Geaugan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Vader would be driving a De Lorean. Ugly stainless steel in the usual Star Wars style bodyshape.
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hope it's not one like this:

- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2More proof that Toyota really sucks at styling.
- conna, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Looks like a Nissan Z.
- niradg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty skeptical. Toyota hasn't made a real performance car in years (not since the Supra), and Lexus are always behind their German competition in terms of driving dynamics. IMHO, this front-engined car will be no threat to the Audi R8, forthcoming NSX, or higher end 911 variants.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Yeah, it's too bad they're going to try to compete with that market and drive the price up way higher than it's worth. With lame Lexii (the plural for lexus?) going for $40k, this one is bound to be 70+.
It'd still be cheaper than any of the three supercars you listed, but it's not going to compete with the new Nissan GTR, Chevrolet's Z07 and Camaro, or even BMW's good old M5.

- Scorpion1976, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yes! Almost time to upgrade my 2002 Lexus IS...
- torgos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0The front end definitely needs refinement. The lines are too sharp, I want to see cars with headlights that don't look like a pissed off Japanese guy, PLEASE. BMW used to have the best headlights in the game, with the nice, round ones, but then they had to jump on the Angry Asian Bandwagon...morons. By the way, digg, I wasn't posting all that much, I am not spamming, you *****, I'll just use my different account, and browser...HA! Assholes.
- jeffburg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3too bad its from lexus. that means it will be soulless and hollow. it also looks like the "Datsun 350 zed"

- yathosho, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1there's no better car for lord vader than a maybach excelereo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Excelero.jpg), every serious villain should have one!

- 8bit_Hero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1it looks like a Nissan 300ZX front with a corvette back
- gordonf238, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I don't think Darth Vader would drive a Toyota, even a $100,000 dollar one. And I hardly think Ferrari, the king of the racetrack with a proven 60+ year record is worried about some tacky wannabe on steroids.
- lateralus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Considering it's Toyota, I'm pretty sure Ferrari will be paying attention.
Toyota, unlike Ferrari, will advertise on television as well as publications other than "Filthy Rich A-Hole Digest"
Sure it's not as nice as a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but tack "Hybrid" onto its fender and you'll see the likes of Leno, DiCaprio and Tiger Woods order a dozen each and before you know it, Ferrari has a problem on their hands. That kind of recognition could open the door. Just my two cents.
- lateralus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Considering it's Toyota, I'm pretty sure Ferrari will be paying attention.
- Dezelon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1What happened to a 2JZ-GTE derived, supra-esque car that have ridiculous turbo power, with a light weight body, and can handle the a proper gt should?
- icexe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm sure this will be an awesome car, but Ferrari baiting? I don't think so. Ferraris are literally works of art when it comes to styling. People who buy Ferrari's are in a totally different league than people who would buy this car.
- priceful, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1gotta get me one of those. :)

MK-V? - stonedgeek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Hello! World oil shortage! Anyone else worried that people are still building these things? Or are we just going to keep driving performance cars until there's no fuel left for anyone?
As someone who just drives to and from work this sort of thing just drives me crazy. Especially since I'm on digg of all places and there's 92 comments going "OMG sweet ride!"- dhbiker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0"As someone who just drives to and from work..."
That's extremely narrow minded - I bet you rack up a fair few miles "just driving to and from work", how far is your work? I bet you could cycle or take public transport. Cars like this tend not to be driven as much as your typical dull saloon car that racks up 12000 miles a year so on the whole probably don't use much more petrol than you. - jimmy72, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Go hug a tree you greenpeace pussy. Oil shortage my ass. We need to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Northeast Alaska. I bet there's a ***** of oil there. Our problem isn't oil shortage. It's refining capacity and oil futures traders. That's what drives up crude prices. Sportscars are fun and exciting.
