- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18If Kevin likes the idea of daily color schemes so much, maybe he could get the guys to put up a Digg mirror that switches each day to the day's color scheme.
- coopetition, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Will today be the day?
Will Kevin actually loose the 100% promoted stories ratio and be 149 out of 150? - mzkw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16No. Now keep yourself quiet and download your daily color scheme.
- flipside3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Not lame, its awesome. Obviously you don't do web design and have to deal with the problem making all the stupid colors go together.
- coopetition, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21How long will it take for this to go to the homepage......
- Hostile_Monk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Not today.
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Would be neat if someone wrote a program to update your OS's scheme with the newest daily scheme.
- brianez21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dugg.
Dude, as a color-challenged web designer, you don't understand how awesome of a website this is for me. Actually, I've started to get the hang of picking "good" colors, but this website is "teh 1337," not "teh lamz0rz". So please, shut up. :-)
Edit: Oh, btw, the site is looking weird on Ubuntu's FF package, but not on the normal FF. What's up with that? - emrikol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5True, it is good, because there aren't ten billion other websites that let you do the same thing. I'd imagine as a web designer, one should have at least a basic artistic background and know a little bit about color harmony.
Darn those stupid colors.
(WTF passes as a web designer nowadays?) - JurrieBurrie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ igraham09
I am afraid that's it. As I mentioned before here, the scheme's are mainly for designers, and are downloadable at the beta.dailycolorscheme.com website in various formats ;-) - ThomasNewman1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Can you use this as a Windows XP color scheme? If so, how do you do it?
- inactive, on 03/07/2008, -0/+1nice fine
try some color fragrance rocks
http://www.elite-rocks.com - mjjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good idea but the colour schemes they've posted so far haven't been all that great. I've seen better samples elsewhere.
- decemberfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@burnsides
Your idea is good, but I think people are afraid to tell others exactly what to use the colors for. One because you'd end up with 1500 sites with identical colors and two because they are afraid that if you give users a set usage for colors it might limit their creativity and they might have a hard time seeing out of the box. If there was a way for users to claim a scheme and say after 10 users have claimed that scheme, it is locked out, or something along that lines, it might work. Just my thoughts. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Helvetica Ultra Light is always great to use as a headline font, but why on earth do so little sites forget that it needs a lot of anti-aliasing? The section titles look awful currently.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, one thing I do like though; If you look closely, when you select a different colour scheme, the icon in the URL bar changes to match it. Nice!
- Beelzebub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why are their 9 colors?
did they change the number of days in a week without telling me? - chrismm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something like this is pretty cool for someone like me. I can do backend code and generic frontends that are functional, but never, ever pretty. I'm bookmarking this page and I've got a few projects I need to revisit now. :)
- shishira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Designers have numerous tools to work with color and color theory the best i have found till date has been http://www.colorschemer.com/ and the schemes there are a totally different story
- decemberfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really like this, sometimes I get in a rut for picking color schemes, and I frequently change schemes, i play around a lot seeing which colors go well together, but this is quick and easy and it gives you a ton of great ideas. Thanks!
- igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3is this just like a new color scheme every day?
is that it?
i mean, i like the colors, i especially like the "MovieDb" scheme...
but is this it? - JurrieBurrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ decemberfall
I really like your idea of locking or removing schemes from display after some people used the scheme, although this is out of our concept range, it's worth the thinking for developing a good color scheme inspiration source, which is something that probably every (web)designer/developers struggles with when setting up a site or a design. - JurrieBurrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DailyColorScheme.com is mainly for designers, artists, illustrators and developers, who use colors to style and design their works.
Our schemes are available in different digital file formats for major design software like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, and development formats like html and css files.
All of these file formats should be OS independent, although we haven't tested the files on Macintosh and Linux based systems.
You can use the color schemes by downloading the scheme files and use them in the design of your brand new website, printed magazine or even a flyer for a party. We're just handing over some inspiration for your designs ;-) - synthrabbit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I prefer the ColorBurn widget. http://www.firewheeldesign.com/widgets/ Although it is nice that this site lets you download the theme in different formats.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Web 2.0, Yuk!!
- cheam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0try GenoSwatch 2.1, it's free... the version 2.2 is not though, but the free version is still hosted on other download sites.
- Namespace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this site just rocked my world.. grrrrr...
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I'm glad someone coined the term "Web 2.0" as it now means "mockery of oneself." This site has it all...beta, starburst, and bright green color. Are they serious? Web 2.0, bravo.
- kizio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hm.... I can't open the link.
- firstmargaret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg that. I was waiting for this for a very long time...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I'll praise the day when Digg users bury a lame Kevin Rose story.
- JurrieBurrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We where already thinking about some straight forward color tutorials and guides on color use, and color theory. Perhaps these will be published on the site in the future. Your (good) comment in noted!
Still it will be up to you to do something useful with the color schemes we provide you. At the end you're still the designer ;) - burnsides, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Color Scheme are useless if they provide no guidance on how to use the color. Sure Now I have a set of colors that are appealling. But if I use them wrong the webpage is still ugly. I would like to see a site that has color schemes _and_ recommended usage. By usage I mean, something like this: Color X = background, Color Y and Z = borders Color A for fonts.
Otherwise this is useless to me as a non color coordinated person. - coopetition, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Indeed!
- coopetition, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I concur!
This should have been that story.
Today should have been the day. - Pichold, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4That is what I thought this was all about until reading.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I thought he didn't get one story promoted to the homepage once but now it seems all are.
- xenoploid, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1so, freaking, lame. How did this get dugg so high?
- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1This is one that's taking its time to move up.
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2why am i reminded of space ghost?
"fine then, im leaving! you fat babies!" - christacw, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1i pick django something. yes, that one..
- Pichold, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1There there.
- bluephoenix, on 10/12/2007, -17/+9Do you think you can address the rigging isues that have been brought to light today?
- coopetition, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2damn
- emrikol, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Reported as lame...because it is
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -25/+4Hey Kevin,
I would like your reply to this article:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Working_Digg_another_look_at_the_LATEST_Digg_corruption_scandal#c2955933
Please have a bit more of a reply to the last scandal, one in which you were undoubtably involved in, where you address zero of this community's concerns. We all digg Digg, and hate to see it subverted in this way. Thanks.
