- jj9000, on 11/12/2007, -21/+441Ever heard of Ad Block Plus ?
- NoNom, on 11/11/2007, -13/+307Get the Ad Block and Flash Block extensions.
- victorycig, on 11/11/2007, -15/+259There are ads on digg?
- ephrils1, on 11/12/2007, -16/+233Yeah, those ads can get annoying.
- tehawesome531, on 11/11/2007, -6/+190No kidding. I dont mind text ads at all. Or even stationary picture ads. But Diggs ads are steadily get more annoying...
- dimplemonkey, on 11/11/2007, -1/+124But I like my wife walking in on me while I'm digging and the chick in the ad is asking me to flirt with her!
- plbland, on 11/11/2007, -3/+110There are some odd blank spaces here and there...
- mlostracco, on 11/11/2007, -2/+96You DO realize that by blocking ads, you weren't aware that congratulations were in order for being the millionth visitor, and you have a prize to redeem?
- Turntheorganup, on 11/12/2007, -1/+89I've got adblock plus and never even knew there were video ads till this story...I never check digg on other computers i guess
- lordthor, on 11/11/2007, -9/+90furefox + adblock plus + filterset.g updater = what single girl?
- RGM89, on 11/11/2007, -9/+87jeeze, bout time someone brought this up. Hope they address this when they finally decide to make those "changes" of theirs.
- binaryloop, on 11/11/2007, -13/+86What ads? I haven't seen an advertisement on Digg (or the web) in years.
Adblock Plus -- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/186 ... - NYC83, on 11/11/2007, -12/+83seriously, it bugs the hell out of firefox!
- newznozzl, on 11/11/2007, -11/+78I don't mind some adds, but it seems like the bottom right is usually a full video ad or something animated. It's really annoying and distracting. What's next? We going to go back to 90's style red and yellow flashing GIF's?
And it sure seems like the # of ads is way up. Right now, I see one big one at the top (umm.. it's yellow and red oddly enough, but not flashing... the "Who's searching for you" thing.) One Ask.com ad on the upper right, and a tall animated alltel cell phone ad on the bottom right. Maybe it's just me, but that seems like a lot... - abran1984, on 11/11/2007, -8/+73Why would you uninstall AdBlock in the first place?
- serrebi, on 11/11/2007, -2/+64yep, had to go back to adblock. I'm blind and live ads ***** up browsing for me. Good thing I know about ad blocking software.
- n3xu5, on 11/11/2007, -9/+70what ads?
- tizz66, on 11/11/2007, -1/+62I use AdBlock plus, but I just unblocked digg to see what the fuss was about. What the hell happened? What happened to the philosophy of using unobtrusive ads, like google ads or static banners? First thing I see is a 'your computer has a virus' animated gif prominently on the screen, bouncing around in it's own space. Pretty disappointing I have to admit. Back to blocking them.
- techlyc, on 11/11/2007, -4/+551) www.adblockplus.org
2) Subscribe to EasylistUSA.
3) surf nicely. - bwhite, on 11/11/2007, -1/+49But she is searching for me ....
- snotrokit, on 11/11/2007, -3/+50maybe if she stripped or something.
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -2/+48whatever happened to the snorg girls :(
- mr1337, on 11/10/2007, -5/+48Adblock plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/186 ...
- TnTBass, on 11/11/2007, -2/+44Never knew this was an issue...
but then again, I use ad-block plus... - tcpip4lyfe, on 11/11/2007, -3/+41I wish I could dig twice. I haven't seen an ad on the internet in months.
- plbland, on 11/11/2007, -2/+39I just disabled adblock plus briefly... *throws up all over screen.
- Chirp08, on 11/11/2007, -2/+37More like when my boss, or any woman for that matter walks by my desk, whether or not I'm on break and digg is open and there is a half naked chick on my screen I'm risking my job.
That is not a risk I should have to take to enjoy a ***** social news site. Reddit doesn't have that *****.. - Neiby, on 11/11/2007, -8/+41No, we use Adblock Plus which gets regular updates unlike your Opera ad blocker. We rarely have to manually block something. And, just so you know, if we have to we also can simply right-click on it and select the appropriate option.
FF > Opera when it comes to ad blocking. - meanwhilepress, on 11/10/2007, -3/+33yeah text ads would be acceptabie. Video ads stink.
- Lasereth, on 11/11/2007, -1/+31/AGREE
I'm tired of looking at a decent article at work and then one of the e-sluts on the right pops up and I have to minimize a work-related article because of it. - serpentor, on 11/11/2007, -4/+32Trying to be nice by viewing ads?! Give me a break... seriously, ***** the ads. Adblock is the best thing since sliced bread.
- inajeep, on 11/11/2007, -2/+30It took me a bit to figure out why he was complaining.
- GvnMcCld, on 11/11/2007, -1/+28And how else would you know you have a virus?
- Otto, on 11/11/2007, -3/+30Filterset.G is deprecated, and the updater is unnecessary. Switch to the EasyList instead.
http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_project#filterset.g
http://easylist.adblockplus.org/ - luchid, on 11/11/2007, -1/+27They hired Microsoft to handle the ads.. that's what happened.
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -4/+29@NYC83
if u have firefox why don't u have adblock...? i've never seen any of these ads - bradsjm, on 11/11/2007, -1/+25Yep, this is the reason for adblock. You can't trust sites to use good judgement when it comes to advertising and not piss off their users.
- KevenM, on 11/11/2007, -1/+25I'm typically against using AdBlock, but in this case I would.
Not for the same reasons as everyone else here though. These ads ARE SLOWER at loading and are seriously slowing things down here at Digg. #4 on my list of growing problems with Digg. - mlostracco, on 11/10/2007, -2/+25But then she sees you on Digg for the quadrillionth hour and leaves to boink the mailman while you look at lolcats and iPhone articles.
- PathDaemon, on 11/11/2007, -7/+29OK, OK... remember the article about websites blocking users with adblock? This is the kind of thing they were talking about. For one, it's not über 1337 to use adblock anymore. Stop being all smug about it.
Second (to Digg), more and more people are DRIVEN to block ads because of this kind of *****. Nobody cared when ads were static and low-rez; the block revolution began with buzzing flies and brightly flashing popups. You're contributing to the blockage! I can guarantee you I would put a hell of a lot less effort into blocking Digg ads if they were text-based. - sirdaz, on 11/11/2007, -3/+25And WTF is up with the popup ad I had earlier?? Sure firefox blocks it, but why even have popups??
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -2/+24and where did all of the snorg tees girls go?
- Godlesswanderer, on 11/11/2007, -0/+22You could have just kept it and set it to show ads on digg.
- herrshuster, on 11/10/2007, -12/+31right click, block content...oh wait...no one uses opera
- andycr512, on 11/11/2007, -0/+19I hope you realize that the people who go to the effort of blocking the ads are the same ones that would never have clicked them to begin with.
- TheRealPod, on 11/11/2007, -2/+21I didn't even know that digg even had ads until I looked at it on a friend's machine.
- blapierre, on 11/11/2007, -2/+20This is just a sign of things to come. Wait until digg sells out, there will be sound (although there was one before) and the ads that come up 5 seconds after the page loads and fly around your screen while you chase around the X trying to close it.
- andshewas, on 11/11/2007, -0/+18My thoughts exactly. We are in the age of excellent ad blockers...why doesn't everyone use them? I'd rather take the time to install Adblock instead of writing a stupid blog post about how much I hate ads....seems like common sense.
- eleven, on 11/11/2007, -8/+25Digg has ads?
