- megaton, on 11/10/2007, -2/+9As opposed to what other kind of image? Anyone?
- KaneElson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You have to be kidding.....
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6PDF = Vector graphics... prnt screen usually equals 72dpi depending on your OS settings... very very very different uses for those quality levels
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5No, they arn't. . . That's like saying cardboard makes a good toilet paper. They're both made out of similar stuff, right?
- tornamodo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5gimp can open pdf's since a while.
$ gimp test.pdf - hakujin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Adobe Acrobat used to support this feature; whereby you could basically write text anywhere on a non-interactive form. Then Adobe precariously removed it... Acrobat 5.
- DevilDunkard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Go ahead and take your print screen image, blow it up but 20 inches, then tell me how well that works. Now, do the same with a vector PDF. You will get it after that.
- Demistate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you alerady have photoshop you can rasterize any page of a PDF and select the DPI, so vector graphics get vectorized at any DPI you need. Trim the page down to the element you want and save.
- nielkie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Or you could just..
convert -density 400 pdf.pdf -resize 25% pdf.png
gimp pdf.png - woxidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Man, ***** like this should come standard with operating systems.
Oh wait...

EDIT:
Also, is there software I can get to convert between server errors and good pages?
http://duggmirror.com maybe? - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A problem I see time and time again with PDF forms is that people do not create them properly. Instead of creating a form that you can download, fill in with Adobe Reader, Preview, Other, save a copy of and email back, they create a PDF that contains some pictures of boxes that you can only fill in if you print the PDF out and use a pen.
- pgiessel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its called Ghostscript. Its been around since 1988. It can do the same thing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostscript
It support TIFF, BMP, JPEG, PNG... - DevilDunkard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Try opening the .tiff with photoshop cs1 or higher. Since photoshop cs1 (Or might be photoshop 7 i don't remember), you can save a .tiff with layers. If the .tiff wasn't flattened, you might get lucky and be able to edit it. If the .tiff was flattened, then your screwed and you should start cloning it out.
- bonexaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A much better one online PDF filler IMHO...
www.pdfescape.com - alchemista, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1This looks like it charges money now...
- diggimator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Man... This sounds painful in other OSes.
On a Mac, double click on the PDF, then choose "Save As..." in the File menu.
Image files seem to open faster, so sometimes I do this conversion when I want to view it later for reference. - dynamok, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Print Screen button always worked for me :)
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@megatron
How about a mental image? Actually if something can turn a PDF into that, that'd be freaking awesome. I'd never have to study again. - roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2asianwaste
Acrobat (the full version, not the reader) does that natively...and does a pretty good job at it (it even takes a shot at form fields ... its quite impressive)
I scanned it a job application once, and it recognized all but one entry line (where you would write your response) as an input field and made a dynamic pdf.
But alas, that does require full blown acrobat, and I havent seen any good free OCR software in ages... - ubuwalker31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1flpsed can also be used to mark up pdf documents in linux: http://www.ecademix.com/JohannesHofmann/flpsed.html
I think you might have to install ghostscript and change an environment variable to edit pdf files in Windows using the Gimp.
Foxit allows you to edit pdf files in Windows as well...but it leaves an unprofessional watermark...*sigh* - markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use...Photoshop.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Blah, too lazy to use'm
- MikhaelB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Offline solution installed on your personal computer is more convenient in any case:
http://digg.com/software/Collection_of_manuals_about_converting_several_kinds_or_documents_to_PDF - Thex1138, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There's any number of ways to do this...
I use:
PDFCreator..
FastStone [Capture Scrolling Window]
..and I know there are a number of other methods out there.. - homeless123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how about 100 pages files? :)

Yeah, just doesn't have quite the same ring as if it were "Photoshopped." - dbrown1981, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2With acrobat pro installed you can print to (not print screen) a pdf. looks great and retains editable vector format if opened in illustrator. i couldn't live without it!
- Sotreta, on 02/05/2009, -0/+0Only you need is GIMP for convert pdf files into image files !!!

http://www.chasr.org/ - Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Why not use Zamzar and convert them online along with many other filetypes?
- dyckdownunder, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Just make sure your PDF's aren't digitally enhanced by the Adobe Photoshop software.
- Eihcet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So, the site is down at the moment, but my thoughts are you:
1) Upload the file per the submitters description
2) use the web interface to add your personal information
3) click print
Does anybody sense a problem with part #2? - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hopefully people are internally changing the phrase "graphical" to something like "raster image" or "bitmap image". "Graphical" simply means that it uses pictures... as in "graphical user interface". PDFs are "vector" graphics. If this "converts" a PDF into a "graphical image", it really doesn't need to "convert" anything at all.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2it would be cool if we could use picasa to do our filing too
- homeless123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1as i say
1) Get pdf
2) convert to doc
3) Fill
4) convert doc to pdf
5) mail, print, fax :)
Solid Converter PDF can convert PDF to Doc and Doc to PDF - oojamaflip2006, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Sorry for pointing out the obvious, but you can render a vector pdf to a bitmap at any resolution with Adobe Acrobat reader (the free version).
Heres how..
1 go to Edit > preferences > general
2 check box that says use fixed resolution for snapshots, change resolution to whatever you want.
3 zoom out so you can see the whole pdf, snapshot pdf with the snapshot tool.
4 It places a bitmap of the rendered vector art into the clipboard at the requested resolution.
Therefore story buried as not RTFM. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yup Jim, it's dead.
- OnAnyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1OK, now gimme something that will convert a give me the text painted on a .tiff or other graphics file.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I'd actually prefer the vice versa: Image to a selectable text PDF.
- homeless123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I prefer use Solid Converter PDF
http://www.solidpdf.com/ - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1This joke isn't even a day old and its already being overused... but watch it'll have like 700 diggs again on this topic...
Should I chime in with a couple more over done examples to seem cool or with it? What I meant to say is, will it blend in Soviet Russia or will Soviet Russia blend you? - keyboardduder, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Heres something easier, take your finger, (I know this is hard) and hit the "Print screen" button on your keyboard. OMG
- 12Iceman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Otherwise known as the "Print Screen" key...
