- frankiejr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Every time you masturbate, God uses Comic Sans.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I dugg this for the interesting article, but not the Digg title and description. Comic Sans was hardly "an accident". And although the font became a Windows system font the author doesn't seem upset about it like the description seems to imply.
FTA: "Now it is part of the Microsoft Windows system fonts. Why? Because it's sometimes better than Times New Roman, that's why."
And it's not like the font mysteriously snuck its way into the Windows system font folder all on its own. The project manager knowingly decided to put it in there. - ender52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4you know what this comment section needs? More people saying they hate Comic Sans. I haven't quite gotten the idea yet. And hurry, if you don't say you hate it, people will assume you love it and that you're not cool. Nobody wants to be uncool.
- woodcake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if i could pick any font to kill.. it would be comic sans
- Zorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Know we know who did it we can hunt and kill him.
- emutree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't stand the font. For some reason every English teacher I've had in high school uses it for their overhead notes - maybe because they see similarities between it's chalkboardish handwriting appearance and their own chalkboard handwriting, but either way it's still hideous. Every time I see someone with an ESSAY typed in size 10 Comic Sans (and I've seen a lot of classmates do it) I just laugh inside.
It has its uses sure - like Apple's Chalkboard rip-off version matches the Chalkboard Keynote theme it's used in really well, and naturally the font fits when you're designing a comic style. But an essay? - retawd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2by the title, i thought it was about horatio sans. his mom saying he was an accident or something. hehe. what a letdown.
- gypsyjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2CHUCK NORRIS INVENTED COMIC SANS
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I could tell just by looking at it that whomever created never intended it to be viewed by the public.
- Shish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1> It definitely fits my personality
Are you, like, hardcore english? I'm regular english, and I've never managed to make a joke that was so self-degrading :-/ - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, and I laugh about the Chalkboard ripoff in OS X. That's funny.
Apple rips one off Microsoft for a change... - dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"if i could pick any font to kill.. it would be comic sans"
Amen - jiminoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1comic sans blows
- msgmsg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Comic Sans is NOT a bad font. It is just overused. If it was only used in appropriate places and less frequently then nobody would complain.
- themilkman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2worst font of ALL TIME!!!!!
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I just love that Apple "innovated" another thing.
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bancomicsans - funny site.
I had a friend once try to design an online store in Comic Sans. It took me a lot of convincing (and giving him a couple fonts that didn't suck) to get him not to do it.
Comic Sans is almost as bad as Hobo. - Karmavs, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1It has it's niché. Unfortunately, by way of being a default font in windows, its use has far surpassed that.
- Karmavs, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Why did Apple make something similar? Because peope were using comic sans on lots, and lots of websites (and because MS would have given comic sans to them). Personally, I'd take the default font instead, but at least they toned down the 'friendliness' a little. Now though, OS X includes Comic Sans, so Chalkboard has become mostly useless.
That last quote, is worrying… http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/1981/picture1yu ... — OS X 10.6 Cub? - c0dek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So the theme seems to be "it's a bad font because people overuse it."
Sounds more like bad people instead of bad font, but I s'pose it's just another thing the so-called "elites" can turn their nose up at to reassure themselves. - breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Comic Sans filled a niche that no other font in the default set filled at the time. Was it the best font to fill that niche? No. Is it a good font? No. Is it a terrible font? No. Is it easy for an amateur designer to use it inappropriately? Yes.
- gcauthon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is exactly why I configure my email client to read all email as plain text. Voila, now all my correspondence looks professional again.
- Triene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*shudder*
Comic Sans... is just... bleeeehblebebeblefelbelbelbelbleblebleh
Gross.
I used to work in the computer lab in our library (at a UNIVERSITY) handing people their printouts... once saw a PAPER written in Comic Sans... I almost cried. - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Weird, I didn't know Comic Sans garnered so much hatred. It's just a font.
- alexhhhh, on 11/28/2008, -1/+2Comic sans is the leading cause of cancer and car accidents.
- EyeDye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All your font are belong to us.
http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=1253 - Bigopinion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Comic Sans is a great way to ruin your first impression on a typed resume.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"cool, comic sans is almost all I use."
Translated: "I have absolutely no design sense, hence I use this font almost all the time. The only other font I use is Sand."
Horrible horrible horrible font. Everytime I see it in use, I cringe. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, the author makes the mistake of calling OS X "OS/X."
Why are there so many people who call it OS-X or OS/X and can't seem to grasp the fact that it is OS X, as in OS Ten? The X is a roman numeral. I don't get people. - dr00d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i hate comic sans SO much
- andywirtanen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bad bad bad description, but Digg because now I know who was responsible for this travesty.
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That Apple font is different. Look at the "I","F" and "s"'s they are way different...
--dan - tijer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Comic sans was an accident"
Indeed. - PGvildys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I only use Comic Sans in MSN chats. Otherwise I don't use it.
- Abx0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If there was only one use for a time machine, it would be to go back and kill the person who put comic sans into Windows.
- Odo08, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow.
such passion.
have you tried decaf? - terrya64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comic Sans is my font of choice.
- lepton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comic Sans sez: "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way!"
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0geeke: "sorry but I been using this font for about 4 years. I use it mainly for IM's thats about it."
You are destroying civilization. Your excessive use of OMGWTFBBQETC won't help. ;) - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comic Sans is taboo in the design and print industry, along with every other over-used font (Arial, Times New Roman, etc)...
it's an ugly font; sure, I liked it years ago, but now I dispise it. - Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use Trebuchet MS which is kind of childish.
- WizzleFish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everyone uses comic sans. My favorite font is Verdana, or Trebuchet MS. Or FF Forward. I think that's what it's called.
- bdwoolman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comic Sans is not a font, it is a typeface. Comic Sans bold, italic 24 point is a font. Times New Roman is not a font. It is a typeface. Times New Roman Bold, 12 Point is a font. The font is the exact form the typeface takes on the page. I am right.
Comic Sans has its place... In speech bubbles. Maybe a funny caption. Rule: Serif fonts for text. Sans serif fonts for headlines. Of course, if you know the rule you can break it. - meekar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to like Comic Sans when I first saw it when I was like 7, but it's so damn overused! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
- energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Comic Sans, like an unloved child.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've always imagined Comic Sans to just be another terrible creation of Microsoft. But now we know who's really the one to hate! KILL VINCENT CONNARE!
- geeke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorry but I been using this font for about 4 years. I use it mainly for IM's thats about it.
