- Switch22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I've stopped caring about blog posts, direct link: http://csstinderbox.raykonline.com/
- kuroaisu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9As much as I hate templates, these are just bare and basic enough to be a fantastic starting point. Think about the information you're publishing, pick a layout and then define a palette. This could easily cut an hour or so off designing any new site.
- durandal2005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I think you're missing the point; this isn't about having ready-to-go, eye-candy templates. Say you want to design a site with a liquid three-column layout. Instead of having to figure out how to implement that yourself, you can just use this "boilerplate" code to get you started in the right direction.
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Great resource for people just getting interested in web design. Much like the designs from this website that has been around forever: http://www.glish.com/css/
A list apart is/was a good site as well. - smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It should also be noted that they use the terms "open source" and "creative commons" more as buzz words than anything of importance. Those two terms are not 100% interchangeable. And again, there is nothing to claim copyright for in the first place, so placing any type of license, (free or not) on something like a skeleton layout of basic html isn't possible. Any more than it would be to try to claim copyright over it. You can't CC or open source that is already 100% free.
- gnawph2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The problem is I really get tired of having to strip out oswd.org layouts of superfluous CSS.
I like these because they are ultra simple and easy to adapt. - moneysaver67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Definitely agree that this is a good resource for the tool belt. Really provides a great starting point that could fit most layouts. If not, easily customizable to fit your design...it is CSS after all ;)
IMO, I like the Open-Source direction taken here, but when I think back to the years when I first began web design, I never realized that I would one day be downloading HTML-skeletons :D - karasin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The JavaScript editor works pretty good and I like the code hinting for JavaScript but then ever once and a while the thing spins my CPU up 100% and then things go very! slow for a while until I shut it down...

It's like JeremyBanks said, there is really nothing to figure out if it just a skeleton. And there are thousands of sites out there just like this. And most have more information, more layouts, better layouts and additional resources. This site adds nothing.
Take something that exists in bulk, add a bunch of web2.0 appearance stuff and call it "open source". It's not even in the spirit of open source really, it is just free. And it is free stuff that has been available for years and in many other places. I do 'see the point', but this particular point has been seen a thousand times already. Again, this adds nothing new, nothing at all. - hsbsitez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have pretty much stopped caring about using others template. All you need to do is learn relative and absolute regarding division, and you can pretty much make all of these on your own.
This may be good for learning purposes. I still prefer creating this stuff on my own, its just fun to see things work out. - VirtualRichard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why not just use the Yahoo User Interface library, specifically YUI Grids, for pretty much limitless template potential?
http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/
Build them quick:

Why people keep trying to reinvent this particular wheel is beyond me. - morninglorii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Some of these are obviously simple enough that it's kind of silly (like one-column centered), but some (like 3-column fluid) are complicated enough that, even though you should definitely be able to do it on your own, it'll save you a worthwhile chunk of time (15 minutes or more maybe) to have a pre-made one sitting there.

- ChrisDigital, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Thanks I've never run across this Yahoo link before... does look like a time saver.
- JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2There's not much figuring out to do.
* { border: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; }
left column
middle column
right column
And you're set. If that code isn't exactly right, a few seconds tweaking and it will be.
EDIT: @$^$IG HTML FILTER! FOR *****'S SAKE DIGG, JUST ESCAPE THE GODDAMN CODE, DON'T REMOVE IT. - moltar2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1YUI Grids are better!
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Lame. Those 'layouts' are incredibly simplistic. Simple to the point that any type of license is silly, be it CC or copyright. CC works because people are putting work they own the copyright to out under CC. Those layouts couldn't fall under copyright in the first place. So putting them under CC is pointless and "trendy".
Anyone who is new to web design would be better off with a tutorial to learn what they need to know. Anyone who is worth their salt has no use for them. (I turned my common layouts into snippets in TM a long time ago)
It just seems like 2.0 bandwagon stuff to me. I see no viable use or anything it contributes. They are just reposting the same stuff that is everywhere already. If people are looking for real open source layouts, this site has been around for a long time: http://www.oswd.org/
They have 2k+ layouts, not just a few overly basic structures.
Buried as lame. - bwizard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This is a great resource but not "New"....thanks.
