http://www.cssremix.com.nyud.net:8090/ - Aniz-Ansari, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8but it's so shiny
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What's wrong with a web design job?
- dvdgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i think it's especially awesome how the layout in this one is broken in firefox. the containing box doesn't stretch to hold all the linked sites.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5all this one does is regurgitate the exact same sites all the other css gallery type sites do.
also, for a site that seemingly celebrates good coding, they need to check their own. - jkronz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3While I like the idea of getting away from tables and moving to css layout, I have yet to see great non-fixed width css site. All of the sites featured have their content size fixed width. Those of us with larger screens are getting quite tired of small strips of information with letterboxing on the sides...
Design with style and "EM" - Chip_whitly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5the site is dead for me
- ThePhilomath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google cache: http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:http://www.cssremix.com/
The only one that worked for me. - magik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4and so ajax-y
- tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A much better resource in my view is:
http://www.oswd.org/
Not only are there some great site designs on there (and all without Flash) but you're free to download and use them.
(No affiliation, by the way) - dfunct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wonder how many have signed up for the CSSreboot this spring?
- doodirock2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8
another CSS features site. woopy! CSS Beauty, CSS Vault, CSS Import, Zen CSS, blah blah blah... - blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Pretty Cool. All CSS too. CSS has really gotten big the past couple of years.
- cenz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just go to:
http://www.cssremix.com/index.php.DISABLED.BY.DREAMHOST - quade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, don't knock AJAX or CSS. If you do, you don't know anything. And you use tables. OMGWTFBBQ!
AJAX (aka Javascript) + CSS (aka HTML - font tags) = Web2.0 (aka the Interweb) - alienfluid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's not always about speed and bandwidth ... there's more to a web server than those two.
- chabuhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks nice ... seems to showcase the same sites as http://www.webcreme.com/ although I don't think WebCreme is solely CSS. Nice site! CSSBeauty is another good one -- although again they all seem to regurgitate the same sites, and so many of the sites showcased are using such common themes that it kind of looks like they're not doing the work on their own.
And what's with the overabundance of Old West/Stagecoach/Saloon fonts and themes?? - Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm guessing most of these have been on http://www.cssbeauty.com/ already.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i-ron-eee..
(never, ever use imageshack on digg.) - Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A screenshot of the homepage in case it goes down
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9274/mainpage5wd.png ;) - el_jefe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, and there are a dozen sites just like this one...
- zykorex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ahm.. most of them seem to be examples of *flash* websites..ahm
- amygdela, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1site seems dead for me?
- dfunct, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The thing I've found with really good looking sites is that more often than not the person that has designed it is a graphic artist who has learnt CSS, you'll also notice that wordpress is used a LOT for these types of sites.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2and *****?....
- MrDiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I assume the former site is not included on this list :S
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't get to the article. The site needs to get on a server with more speed, bandwidth.
- pbsaxa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0you guys should check out http://www.cssexchange.com
- bobjr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3That's just what the internet called for - a CSS Gallery, BRILLIANT!
- spiderfish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Amen
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they're beautiful
- kden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great list, would be great for young aspiring css designers to get inspiration from.
- pixelnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no site, no digg :)
- kristy77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't we have enough css showcases already?
- Lare2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RIP .... Died by the Digg effect .... lol
- tijs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This must be showcase #48. What about added value?
- seanmc303, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Bless you jpp3! I was just starting my site redesign and I needed some good inspiration. This is purrrrrrfect.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I ***** on CSS. Nothing against CSS; I ***** on it because I ***** on the WWW and its fifteen hundred ill-implemented and cripled standards. I'm re-designing a web application right now, and I've spent the last two days (12 hour days) moving from framesets to pure CSS. The sad fact is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to truly do this because of the limitations of CSS. I don't think its possible to implement the requirements I have in anything but a frameset. What weird, strange, *****-up requirements do I have? Its simple. Place a dynamically created element in a static container that 1) is sized relative to the browser window and 2) overflows gracefully using scrollbars. You cannot do this without javascript and/or framesets.
What we need is a single unified presentation standard that allows for any item to be placed anywhere on a browser, with exact control of flow in and around it, and have that placement be static, dynamic, or in relation to any other object. Essentially a standard that is analogous to modern print document layout, but with the ability to control how dynamic content affects elements on the page. Call it FHTML for ***** HTML. This standard should take the best of all current standards (like the abstraction and inheritance of look and feel a la CSS) and throw out all the ***** that's in there for backwards compatibility. This standard should be implemented by a single governing body in an open source project that can be freely ported to any platform and sold FOR PROFIT (***** CC and GNU and all that *****--we want companies to use this source!). Browser developers can then use this code to display any FHTML webpage. Within 5 years, nobody will be writing in SOHTML (***** old HTML), and so major browser makers can drop HTML support. And what a joyous day that will be. - jpp3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1wow - I wasn't really expecting all the hits. And if things look broken, its because I'm still working things out - so stay tuned!
- ShitPoint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0this site could help me to find the design for my site, i really need help, it seems like my imagination is turned off...
tanx a lot... - DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Have lots of fun with web design just don't quit your day job.
- jpp3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1and if things look seriously messed up (like they do now because of the massive usage) its my server - not my design/code
- poordavey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0rofl 67 diggs and its already down :P
..or loads extremely slowly anyway
well, we've seen a couple of these types of stories anyway i guess..i was excited to see some more though. css = neat. - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1see comment above
- aThing, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Will you people stop it with the shiny CSS+AJAX ***** already?
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I think we slashdotted the site. She's trying though and... there we go loaded. Looks nice.
- Mike89, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3First Comment! Haha just kidding, I'm just suprised a story has hit the frontpage with no replies? Looks interesting.
- alienfluid, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0Slashdotted?
- alienfluid, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1I just dug into CSS too - converted the original site to CSS over the last weekend - check it out at:
