- DisembarkedOne, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26yeh, its truly amazing what passes for an "article" these days.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I think it will be removed because it is a crap article... its a list of CSS tabs, explain to me why any of them are spectacular.
Buried as lame, just wish I could bury it as spam too. Not much value added to this article by their comments. It just seems like a traffic grab. - kyhx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Pretty simple to accomplish most of these with an unordered list and styles.
By the way, every browser I am aware of has a view source option. - Tanglefuzz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25Enough with the ***** lists of ***** menu's from always-the-same-***** websites for ***** sake.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19i like css as much as the next guy but why does there have to be an article on it 4 times a day its getting really really old.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Honestly, I prefer lists like these. I just want to see a screenshot for inspiration, not a list of 40 links where I have to click 'em all just to get an idea.
The fact of the matter is, a web developer/designer shouldn't have to see the source or even need to rip off these designs. Creating navigation lists like these are incredibly simple and just need some tasteful graphics, a UL list, and some CSS. - mcflynnthm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9And with good reason, especially the last one.
Actual content or GTFO. - commandos, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11it's nice to see suck designs , but better if we could have source and designs ...
- stupidStan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10OMFG You can do rollovers with CSS?!?!?
Luckily no source code is posted, otherwise it might be more useful than randomly surfing sites and looking at source code... - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I question why any of them were dugg up as high as they were... you should too.
The Web 2.0 Roundup was *****. The 58 'creative' logos weren't. The job boards, the links may have been mildly useful but that is all the 'article was' a list of mildly useful links that any serious IT job seeker has probably found already.
This 'magazine' is neither newsworthy or useful in all the cases seen so far. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You're two or more years late.
- steveo2112, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5Another week, another "great article" from Smashing Magazine on the front page... :/
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Accesibility does not necessairly relate to CSS... actually, no Accessibility hasn't got a damned thing to do with CSS.
It also does not mean that they are using tables. - mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Because every article from them sucks. Maybe if they had some kind of actual content and not just a paragraph then their lists of stuff wouldn't get buried so much.
- mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4because they aren't articles, they are just lists of stuff thrown together.
- mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, I am a web developer gainfully employeed for a Entrepreneur Magazine Franchise 500 company. There is no useful content on the page. I am not talking about the design, but the CONTENT. You know what that is right? It's the stuff that actually makes a website worth visiting.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People for frame of reference, out of the 16 stories Jummy has submitted to Digg, only 5 have not been 'articles' from smashing magazine. Out of those 11, it seems one had useful content. And Jummy, I think it was the links in the article that got dugg, not the crappy synopsis provided.
- mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, every article from them sucks, I don't care how many diggs their other article received it still sucked. The whole website is just based on trying to get AdSense clicks. I have an inkling you are part of them, seeing how you are so gunge-ho about a site with no actual content.
- strax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4cssplay has a much better collection:
http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/index.html
The choice of "SmashingMagazine" seems like digg-spamming... - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Number of links does not have anything to do with usefulness... it just shows how much people like you have spammed the site.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am a web developer and I don't see the difference either.
- hypografik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's Spam. They keep submitting new stories with same content and ripoffs of other nice sites over and over.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oooo... javascript rollovers... now their list is cutting edge. I want to see the tables tutorials though.
- jeffyjones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is crap. There are javascript roll-overs there. That's not CSS.
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank god! It has been almost 24 hours since there was a list of CSS nav on the front page. I was afraid we might go a day without one.
- PRlME, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3STOP THIS ROLLOVER *****
theres like 5Billion diggs of this crap - bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No kidding... Half of those menus are DHTML. This is NOT a list of CSS menus. It's good design references, but who Diggs this inaccurate crap?
- kcornwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This digg story is proof positive that the digg algorithm is not working very well these days. Just read all the comments in this thread.
- tony23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A list of nav menus - BFD.
- C00001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"i like css as much as the next guy but why does there have to be an article on it 4 times a day its getting really really old."
Because you're in the Technology>Design section, and it's a popular design topic...? - kcornwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how the eff does a ***** article like this make it to the front page? this sucks. where is the code?
who gives a crap about a bunch of screens and links to sites. utterly useless. - dognose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dugg down for the bad copyright on their css menus. Don't use the menus from this site.
- crossers, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0it's nice but I hope not the end!))

- flaccidwithrage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0src code-
li {float:left;display:block;background-image:url(on.gif);}
li:hover {background-image:url(off.gif;)}
and use an unordered list. not exactly ground breaking... - masskurec, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0what about css4 menus
http://xptweak.net - jummy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12mikedpirone: you are almost right. However, compare these lists with other lists you get on Digg. See the difference? If you aren't a web-developer, probably not.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's not the same content, it's posted on a different date and everything!
New content please Smashing Magazine! - jummy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+197% of web-sites are still inaccessible.
http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200612/97_of_websites_still_inaccessible/ - mikehill33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1One of the better Digg submissions in quite a while.
Bravo! - jummy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You know that Digg effect reduce CRT of Google AdSense, right?
- jummy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Every article sucks? Well, OK, just check how many diggs Smashing Magazine's previous articles had.
http://digg.com/design/53_CSS_Techniques_You_Couldn_t_Live_Without - jummy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well, OK, then this site isn't useful for you. I understand that.
But what about thousands of other developers? Take a look.
http://technorati.com/search/smashingmagazine.com - virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Those are nice designs, I wish some were open source and not the ***** "web 2.0" designs.

They all have been buried. - loneBoat, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2o_o Whoah there, tanglefuzz. Calm down, you might hurt yourself. If you don't like the article, ummm, don't read it. There's even a "bury" button, which can be a fairly constrictive outlet for your rage...
- jummy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Apparently, Digg team buries all digg stories with links to Smashing magazine posts. I suppose, in few minutes this story will be removed from the Front Page and Design Section. What do YOU think about it?
- jummy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1These are useful, because they demonstrate, what can be achieved with basic CSS styling and web standards. Take a look you round. You'll see tables, table-based layouts and IE-optimized web-sites. CSS offers you more. That's why it's important to show, which techniques can be used and how they are used properly.
