- skylights, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30I'm sure I'll get dugg down for this, but you know it's true: this isn't a scientific survey. Particularly if it makes it to front page, the Firefox stats will explode. We all know the results won't be representative of all internet users.
On the other hand, if it influences some people to try Firefox, well, that's a good thing. - Yogurth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Yes nice idea, unfortunately it will probably stay within nerd/geek community and will not give the true picture of favourite browsing software, nevertheless very nice.
- gaijin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19...and there's the opinion of the 12-year old 1337 b0yz
- Meehowski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Opera 9.1!!
YAY!! - M1THR4ND1R, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20That's a pretty good idea.. Though the results so far don't surprise me at all. I'm using Opera myself and encourage you all to try it. ;)
- tboutcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The OperaenUSMaemobrowserN was me. For those of you curious what that is, its the browser for the nokia 770 internet tablet.
- philippbock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I can’t believe there are still so many people using IE … Why? Why would anyone use IE? Oh well …
- michaelyurechko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Woo Hoo...go Safari......8 entries...yay! :-/
- endx7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Firefox was created with open-sourced Netscape code."
We don't identify Internet Explorer as Spyglass Mosiac though... - dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9sweet who was using lynx?
- swizzcheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Bravo. Top marks for the most pointless digg mirror vote whoring comment. :)
- JacNet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yes, but to make it run faster and be less server-intensive they should make it generate a html document which contains the current results every 5 minutes, this would mean the intensive php script would only have to run once every 5 minutes and this wouldn't be as slow.
- Quaitemp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I use Opera too, after being a hardcore firefox-fan for years. I discovered that Opera has most of the features I need, without installing any third party plug-ins.
Try it out, but don't expect it to work exactly like IE or firefox. - eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13This page looks like its probably dynamic and thusly server intensive I expect it to be down soon! (but you never know)
Current statistics: (as of 4:33 PST 1/06/07)
2166 total entries
51% firefox (yay)
33.1% IE (boo)
6.2% Safari
5.8% Opera
2.1% mozilla
.6% netscape
.6% unknown
.5% konqeror
.1% lynx - stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -4/+106 of those 8 seem to have dugg you up.
- eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I've refreshed a couple times (Yes I know im a bad person) and i find it quite intriguing to watch the digg effect in action.
2499 entries and substantially slower then it was a minute or two ago.
2568 after a refresh. - M2Ys4U, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Statistics are often misleading. You should not rely only on this information."
- TimDub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This reminds me: I wonder if the Opera browsers on DS and Wii will make a significant impact in market share.
Interesting. But skylights is right. The total for Fx will go way up if this gets front-paged. - snorbaard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9IE 7 is pretty good in comparison o it's icky predecessors
(says me who's using Opera) - godulous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6
Thank you for your entry!
We noticed you are using Netscape
no im not.. - dbcurrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree - this is really only going to represent browser statistics for the Digg community. Initially anyway. But even if loads of people start putting buttons on their sites there's no way of knowing how representative the figures are of browser usage.
To get a truer picture you really a survey which covers a wide range of sites over a long period of time. Here's another survey which has been running for a long time, but again only shows figures for one site, which again is quite tech oriented. Interesting to see the trends changing over a number of years though.
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp - kirakun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow, Netscape still has a browser? lol.
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What is it you like about opera?
The fact that when installing on new computers, I don't have to install 800 different extensions every time. - 2Deluxe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Doubtful considering number of Wii/DS consoles Vs. number of internet capable PCs.
- michaelyurechko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For those that didn't see it, below the stats there are 5 or so small squares. If you click those, you can place images on your site, as well as an invisible image, and it will check the browsers of those who visit your personal site.
- iigloo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Maybe you should read what tboutcher said?
He said:
"The OperaenUSMaemobrowserN was me. For those of you curious what that is, its the browser for the nokia 770 internet tablet." - xM55, on 10/02/2009, -0/+3@dbcurrin
No, all you have to do is put one of the images on your website, and anyone who visits a page with that image on it will send information to browserreports.com. It's that simple. - fastball1945, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For designers and programmers this is very important information.
- xM55, on 10/02/2009, -8/+11What a brilliant idea!
- ChillyEli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4
Thank you for your entry!
Unfortunately we were unable to determine what browser you are using
Hmmmm I guess it doesn't like my custom User Agent of "SuperDuperBrowser" - Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Initially maybe, but if this actually gets used on normal website (not tech oriented) then it's quite possible that they will represent a good portion of the internet. I really doubt that it will happen though.
- br0ther, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not that accurate.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061205 Iceweasel/2.0.0.1 (Debian-2.0.0.1+dfsg-1)
And the site says "We noticed you are using Mozilla", well sort of but not really Mozilla _the browser_. If Fx should be selected out then Iceweasel either should be in that pile or in it's own pile. - xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm surprised the server hasn't exploded into a bazillion flames by now
Konqueror and Konqy FTW! - fastball1945, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We all can hope!
- tboutcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2since the site has been down for more then the an hour and you commented "15 minutes ago" I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you went the the diggmirror. Which would only give you Netscape as the result
- klinellyred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3netscape? wtf? -kicks firefox-
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2more people really need to use Flock. I like it more than any browser I've ever used.
- mroberts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Camino shows up as Firefox.
It would be nice if it had it's own section. - thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Statistics are often misleading. You should not rely only on this information."
Good idea but, uh....ok. Here is another poll that shows quite a different view.
http://diggpolls.blogspot.com/2006/11/what-is-your-browser-of-choice.html - M1THR4ND1R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I like about Opera is the speed, and the vast amount of features for example IRC and the support for downloading torrents.. I used to use firefox (for a pretty long time too), and yeah, i knew about extensions. I just find Opera to work better for my needs. :)
- fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I went their useing Opera and this is what the little grey text says
Thank you for your entry!
We noticed you are using Netscape - Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm they don't support w3m, they should really get more browsers in there. I bet wget isn't supported either.
- tboutcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it seems these days opera is being bundled in everything. The Wii, DS, Nokia and samsung phones. Its a shame Firefox is suck a memory hog. keeps it off the small device market . But 2Deluxe is right number of PCs drawfs all other devices.
- Pelapp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This site will never give a true representation of the real numbers regarding browsers. Only people who browses newssites like Digg and blogs will go there, and her the majority isn't IE.
Funny, but pretty useless. - djg38, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats
- BlueLander, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I wish it was me. I'm just one of the many unoriginal losers using Firefox.
- tboutcher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Heres a question, why dose the diggmirror use Netscape as its browser?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so damn stupid! there are less FF users then IE (not because I'm an IE fan I use Firefox). between those who understand more than average about computers (diggers) there are more Firefox browsers then IE.
- spons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You must know that most of the people visiting that kind a website's are people who know what the web is all about and therefore use firefox *wink*, because on like every forum/community everyone promotes firefox... Old people or computer geeks for instance still make use of Internet explorer, that are people who won't visit that kind a websites :p. My parent would still use IE if I hadn't switched it behind there backs (for more than 2 years and they still haven't noticed :p)
- tboutcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A lot of people are getting incorrectly recognized as Netscape. I myself didn't have any problem an I tried a slew of browsers. I hope people aren't going to the diggmirror and expecting it to recognize their browser. The diggmirror can only disply the result mirrored which is Netscape. This ma account for *some of the of the miss matches
