- mojomogul, on 10/11/2007, -5/+129We all know MySpace has bastardized web 2.0 with html 1.0. Digg this up so we can inspire people to take down all the e-tchochkes (I'm talking to you, blink tag) that make the interweb ugly.
- InstantRamen, on 10/11/2007, -20/+77I am digging you all down for caring about myspace.
- TenebrousX, on 10/11/2007, -3/+50I have an idea: let's stop being ***** to everyone else on the interwebs
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+39a wise man once said, "its like giving a glass of ice water to someone in hell."
now virb, they do profile-customization really well.

virb is what myspace would be if they would have thought it all the way through. - cbabraham, on 10/11/2007, -14/+50@nice pederson
Why the hell would you digg down people posting their myspace layouts on a story about myspace layouts? Seems pretty relevant to me .
ps here is my myspace *****
www.myspace.com/chan_man - doddilus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37this is what myspace is all about:

I guess that's not worthy mention, no? - mbelleghem, on 10/13/2007, -6/+41Every time I see a Myspace thread on Digg it never ceases to amaze me how many people like to criticise Myspace. If you don't like it, in what way are you forced to deal with it or use it? Is it not like Fresca, in that those who find it not to their liking can simply reach around it and choose something else instead?
For professional musicians, photographers, DJs, and members of other artistic communities, Myspace is a fantastic tool for networking and socialising that does very well something few if any other sites can do, and the critical mass that Myspace (and Myspace alone) has achieved in certain areas is impossible to deny or ignore. Has it become fashionable to bash Myspace just for the sake of it?
As a dance music musician/DJ/journalist there's simply no other site that does what Myspace does - and for what it is (and the price!) Myspace does it very well. It pains me to read all the Myspace bashing that seems to focus on the crappiest of the crap, when so much of what makes the crap crap is people's complete lack of aesthetic taste (remember Geocities, anyone?) and not some inherent trait of Myspace itself. Putting up a simple, easy-to-read Myspace page is straightforward, and doing so connects you to a broad and powerful network of like-minded professionals. There aren't really that many free websites you can say that about. If you think Myspace is just for webcam whores, you're missing the point.
(obligatory myspace link: myspace.com/mbelleghem) - thesnowfox, on 10/11/2007, -4/+36This is the only thing that has ever made me appreciate MySpace in the least.
- donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Adding her to MSN does not actually count as 'going out'...
- Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -15/+44In a few years, you'll be embarrassed to even admit you had a Myspace account.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31http://myspace.com/justintadlock
clearly violating myspace's TOS
IV: do not promote better social networking sites. - Godlesswanderer, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32For people that havn't seen the light and changed to facebook, LoveMyFlash (http://lovemyflash.com/) has some great looking flash based layouts. Most of them look nothing like the average myspace profile and they keep the amount of information showed at one time pretty minimal.
Plus, these ones don't violate the TOS and won't be taken down if they're found. - nicpedersen, on 10/11/2007, -23/+41to any dumbasses posting their own myspace page: You will get dugg down.
- FLAESHAL, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19http://myspace.com/sherl0k
this one wins the whole world hands down. - donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -10/+28Wait... If this is the best MySpace has to offer then the page I created earlier still stands...
http://www.myspace.com/donnyburnside - lxplicit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19I'm not embarrassed to show my CSS skills.
- donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19That is horrid.
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Don't appreciate Myspace, appreciate CSS. as the article says, most of these violate the Myspace TOS. Which if anything, should cause you to hate myspace even more.
- donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12This code was posted yesterday, I take no credit whatsoever.
[style type="text/css"]
* {display:none; background-color:b2ed33;background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: top center; background-image: url(**URL here**);}
[/style]
Obviously change to actual tags and background colour...
As for the lime green, I agree its much brighter in the evening. - Gzero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12No matter how good a Myspace layout is, it's still Myspace. I hate flash layouts a lot too, often they are used in such a way that you could do easily without flash.
- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13And I'm digging you down for trying to out-cool people on Digg.
- infamousempire, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13http://www.myspace.com/ihaveast1ffi
I just made this today, it almost fits the category... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11the second "i" in your name is redundant.
- imsoclever, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10wow you look like a douchebag
- Aroundtown27, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Best layout on myspace hands down... now to get every other myspace user to switch to that....
- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Dugg for an analogy using Fresca.
By the way, your post was entirely on point. I agree 100%. - LaueOfficer, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11"MySpace is relevant whether or not you think it is. How many MILLIONS of people are registered on MySpace, again?"
19, the rest are spammers and web cam whores, all of which are bots - 2shae, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9http://myspace.com/stopmyspacing
Everything this one says is true and that's why I think site like MySpace are lame - RCcola159, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I want to gouge my eyes out after seeing that bright lime green color. Nice idea though.
- PirateMonk3y, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8just a short little anecdote here...
about two days ago i was surfing around digg and came across that best myspace design article (the joke one) and i decided to post my page to see what people thought about it. (www.myspace.com/dhranj) so i figured that i would get a couple of views over time, i got a couple of friend requests and stuff like that, messages telling me they liked my page and all, but nothing even close to what i got.
i came home from classes today and checked my page and it had over 2000 views since yesterday. i said to "myself there is no way that this is all from that one little comment." then i get an IM from my friend saying "DUDE! Go check the front page of digg and that myspace article!" i went and checked it out and found that MY myspace made the top 18 on the list.
idk why but im speechless, in some super geeky way it feels kinda cool. thanks diggers, i needed a pickme up. - donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Upgrade your connection..
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8install viruses on myspace, lets see how that works out...
- canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6ajaja -wtf is your deal? you're all over here hating on myspace. yes, most of the designs are *****, but to bash people that are making nice looking pages is just stupid. what, are you on facebook? oooo, you're so cool, what an exclusive club you belong to.
yes, for musicians and such, myspace is _the_ best promotion you can get for free. all i use myspace for is keeping up w/ old friends and staying up on bands/djs. there simply isn't a better avenue on the web for it. and i applaud the people taking the time to inject some beauty into what is admittedly a pretty ugly site. maybe they can get more people doing the same.
besides, bashing myspace is like bashing paris hilton, it's so easy and obvious it's not even clever anymore. but since you're so ahead of the curve you already knew that. - Lounger540, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7It's a cool flash design, but it's totally defeating the point of being on MySpace since it cut out all the social networking aspects.
- marnaq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5does that pilot ***** get you lots of gals, eh?
- donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6http://myspace.com/jontowles > all
Might wanna stop the auto-play before ever comparing it to anything greater than the default Myspace. That's one of (if not the) biggest annoyance I get from Myspace. - ptacnik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I agree 99% If it weren't for all the cam girl invites I would appreciate myspace a lot more.
I can see why people would make fun of some of the layouts... but honestly who cares. Not everyone in the world is a ***** graphic designer. It's not enough for me to boycott it, nor should it be.
Seriously people... they are all tools for networking...
Let me make it clear... I enjoy both myspace and facebook. But lately it seems like digg is brewing a whole new breed of fanboy.
You can hate myspace all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that any random person you walk up to most likely has an account... or AT LEAST knows what it is... and hasn't the slightest clue (or interest) in facebook. facebook has been around for a long time and still doesn't have a FRACTION of the people using it. Everyone knows what myspace is. Very few know what facebook is. I'm not saying thats the way it SHOULD be... I'm just saying thats the way it is.
let the digg down begin - donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4...because that's the defining point of any arguement? Get 'real' ffs.
- Jonny0stars, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4What is wrong with the default everyone knows where everything is, why change it ?
"OMFGWTFBBQ LOOKZ GLITRIY SCROLZING TXT!" its these types of profile that crash my browser the html is that messed up. - 0firefly0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The only part violating the TOS is the fact that they cover the ad at the top. Everything else is there is completely allowed on Myspace.
- giloron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@cbabraham
That's great. I'm sure you put a lot of time into making it look nice. Too bad it still looks horrible when you go to the pictures or friends pages. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+11MySpace is relevant whether or not you think it is. How many MILLIONS of people are registered on MySpace, again?
- 2shae, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I like this chick + she has the best MySpace design I've seen so far....
http://myspace.com/kgandstuff - mhockey14221, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I understand where you're coming from, however, I feel many more people on digg are more apt to use facebook since they're probably in high school/college/graduate school rather than musicians. That's why we love to hate.
For a student, facebook is 100,000x more useful than myspace because the emphasis on school networks. I had a myspace for a year in freshman year in college along with my facebook -- it was next to impossible to find who my fellow incoming classmates were. On facebook, I could see who was living next door, down the hall, who would be in my major classes, etc. (maybe not a plus to some, but it was interesting) Facebook's ***** don't stink either, they suck at music.
Plus, you can't deny the overwhelming amount of crappy 15 year old girl profiles, fake stripper/porn profiles, and all that other riff raff.
P.S. myspace really is slower and error prone than facebook. - donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3V. good point, and one I second.
- PRlME, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5So this guy reads a Digg post from yesterday and makes a Blog re-submits the same thing, and now gets a thousand hits nice. (what a fuqin dick if u ask me)
- Malachai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@tomplansmedia (#7055563)
I'm actually hoping that Virb overtakes Myspace one day. Of course on Digg, the emphasis is with Facebook, but I believe Virb has as much (or greater) potential.
I'm curious as to what it would take to kill a giant. - korimickster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Except for trying to plug it on Digg.
Idiot. - threepop, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5MySpace haters. Oh brother. You don't get it. Who cares if it looks bad/bland? There's over 100,000,000 people out there! I'll take function over form anyday if it gets my foot in someone else's door.
I just got myself a job by contacting a director through Myspace who was otherwise unreachable.
You unbuntu fanboys go have fun with your precious Web 2.0, uber-cool, oh-so-overly-designed sites and I'll stick to finding a big, fat paycheck on crappy MySpace. -
