- aegenes, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Very cool. Surprised this hadn't been done before!
- adamvarga, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4that was the longest two hours evar!
- gregory, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3I'll never visit hotornot.com again now that I have commandshift3
- DreKor, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3While this is a cool idea, it doesn't work that well. To me, the "best-designed" site needs to be very functional, as well as pretty. Since the preview is just a static image, it's really hard to tell how well these sites work.
- sahadeva, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3brilliant!
- glitch010101, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Cmd-shift-3 is awesome. Love the idea, and the name. (For any non-mac users, cmd-shift-3 is the command to take a screenshot on a mac)
- gregory, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2I once had a two hours that lasted only ten minutes
- superamit, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2We let you do this in two ways right now:
1) If you browse by tag, you can enter a "battle" for that tag, only pitting sites against each other which share a common tag. As they probably have similar content. (example: http://commandshift3.com/tag-battle/college)
2) In general, we try to pit sites with similar tags against each other in the comparisons, but this isn't always the case. - darrellsilver, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2OMG, it's like kitten wars, but for websites!
- Mikekuul, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2The same could be said about Hot or Not, just replace "site" with "woman"/"man".
- darrellsilver, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Hey! we called it commandshift3 because on a mac, that keystroke takes a screenshot of your computer
- opensourcemaven, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3amit for the win.
- Ryan805, on 12/25/2007, -0/+1Hot or not for websites. Pretty funny. Nice job though.
- crxnamja, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1awesomeness.
- aegenes, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1hotornot is going way back.
- gambl0r, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1The site looks great, Amit!
- betobeto, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1And a half-obscure reference only diehard Macheads will "get". Brilliant, isn't it?
- jayomatic, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I think this test is a bit flawed. Whats the point of voting for a design when the content is completely different from one another. Now, if they can do a comparison of sites which display the same type of content, the results would be better.
- betobeto, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Agreed. Too much of what passes as "great design" on the web is judged so on the basis of how it looks and not on how well it works (Refer to any Communication Arts's "Interactive Design Annual" for examples). As an UX designer this topic calls close to home and is a neverending source of arguing. Web sites are not works of art in the sense that they are meant to be USED, not to be just looked at. The prettiest-looking site in the world is a complete failure if users can't get what they want/need from it in a fast, simple and intuitive way. And that applies to "artsy" sites too.
- DaveRS5, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Wicked site
- thomasknoll, on 02/10/2009, -0/+0gillllorious
- everyplace, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0The preview window scales, so if your browser window is significantly larger than 1024 wide and tall, it will give you the full-size preview of the site.
- lsemel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0All too true.
- Sollitaire, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0I'm impressed and excited as I can use this in so many different ways. Now to share it with all my user experience friends.
- rhombusface, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0I like the idea, but I think the zoom feature should be upgraded. I can't read the text on any of these sites. With popular sites like Pitchfork this isn't a problem, but with others that I haven't seen before I couldn't tell what the site does.
- lsemel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0Good idea! We'll add it to our list!
- swizerland000, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0oh snap! greta cancel my appointments!
- darrellsilver, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0Thanks!
- darkerjustin, on 12/20/2007, -0/+0Good place to get ideas for web designing!
- darrellsilver, on 12/11/2007, -0/+02 hours is in the mind of the beholder.
- cheeaun, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0I wonder why is it called 'CommandShift3'?
- everyplace, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0That it was.
- xcori, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0pretty cool way to waste time... uh.. browse the internet!
