- vemon388, on 08/05/2008, -6/+207The future is going to be a messy place.
- ThePags, on 08/05/2008, -18/+194cool concept but seems impractical.
- nads, on 08/05/2008, -1/+147Major Fail: She looks at her cloud of bookmarks and says "It's gotta be here somewhere" wtf...
- tomzer1, on 08/05/2008, -7/+141Interesting video and concept. But WTF? Trash-talking between farmers? Ha! That took me out of the presentation.

That's exactly what we'll say to our grandchildren when we watch them using one of these damn things.. - m4ttGT, on 08/05/2008, -8/+84Very cool and interesting, however, it seems a bit complex for the average user right now. Also, you're going to need a lot of computer power and internet backbone to do that kind of browsing in the future (with all those browser windows open). But the way the windows are grouped into "fields" in 3D is awesome!
Overall, very cool concept. Dugg! - danielsamuels, on 08/05/2008, -10/+79Didn't really appeal to me.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+53cluttered.
and what the hell kind of mouse is that? looks expensive - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -3/+56I am the 16th person to digg you down.
- Rally603, on 08/05/2008, -2/+55I like my internets simple.
- TecK415, on 08/06/2008, -1/+49Please... Go back to Youtube, and stay there.
- Andronicus, on 08/05/2008, -5/+51I only wanna know one thing: What amazingly fast and low latency internet service is she using out there in rural Farmington? (I need to get on that.)
- ShaKtiMaaN, on 08/05/2008, -1/+38Video isn't laggy, I think it's just like that. I tried vimeo's HD vs. SD versions, both run at the same kind of...stop-motion like animation. The rendering of the browser is smooth though, so I'm thinking it's just a poor artistic direction, not a crappy link.
My thoughts, ehh, I don't see how this is useful to the average consumer, but this is just the first video (then again, she was watching South Park).
The cloud/cluster view is cool looking, and the whole Z-axis related to time is interesting, but if it linked more to how much you use things, like popularity/page views, rather than last-time accessed (I guess these are usually correlated, but I dunno). Searching looks easy, but the radial menu looks confusing as hell, the whole blind-menu is a bit of an issue for me. - inactive, on 08/06/2008, -3/+38WTF?
- ThePags, on 08/05/2008, -2/+34the bmw that can change it's shape is a cool concept but completely impractical.
- nads, on 08/05/2008, -1/+31Dugg for Allan's chatup line: "Small harvest this season?"
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -2/+27hey sweetie
- MalDON, on 08/06/2008, -1/+26nice catch!
- synystar, on 08/06/2008, -0/+23True...years ago I was training a somewhat elderly lady to use her new PC. After explaining, and demonstrating, how to use the mouse I turned it over to her. She started by picking it up and waving it at the monitor. Around the same time I had a roommate with a three year old daughter. I loaded some edutainment software on my PC and showed her ONE time all the cool things she could do with it. Three years old and when I gave her the seat she was at it as if she'd been doing it since she was born.
- Jbone86, on 08/05/2008, -8/+30Even if this is an idea that will never stick, I don't know. I think it's cool that people are still creating concept videos like this; ones that just throw out scenarios for what technology in the future will be someday. During the 90s it was kind of a fad in movies and media to come up with ridiculous ideas of what would happen in the next 20 or 30 years. Even the fact that they used agriculture as an example of a subject/occupation effected by the future is kind of a throwback to when people were just brainstorming on what the next big thing is. I personally welcome these concept videos and hope for more stuff like this.
- trollick, on 08/06/2008, -0/+21Because damn computers made our lives way too simple. We desperately need this kind of tools to bring clutter and chaos back.
- Marlon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+21when he said that forgotten stuff will fade into the background, i was like, 'oh great! now my computer forgets the same crap i forget'
i'm the kind of guy who's always switching off personalized menus - synystar, on 08/06/2008, -1/+18OMFK!
- rowjimmy, on 08/05/2008, -2/+18huh, lot of potential, but can you even imagine the developer hell it'll be to design sites that are compatible with aurora & ie6?
- freqk, on 08/06/2008, -1/+17Yeah, buried for needlessly complicating things I do with copy paste/IM already.
Then again, mabye I'm just tomorrow's arrogant old person.
"When I was young, we'd copy paste each other links in a separate application that we would use to text each other messages! None of this fancy-shmancy 3D crap!" - EtherGnat, on 08/06/2008, -1/+16You haven't spent much time around farmers, have you?
- Tenoq, on 08/06/2008, -2/+17No more impractical than 90% of the desktops I see around. Icons EVERYWHERE. Yet people know where they are instinctively, and can find what they need.
What is really interesting is how many everyday OS features are supplanted by this browser simulation. 90% of home users would be doing little more on their PCs today than what was demonstrated in just that browser. OS-independent user interfaces seem a bit closer to reality... which is a good thing for Linux supporters, IMHO. - EtherGnat, on 08/06/2008, -1/+153D interfaces always look cool, then end up sucking in reality. Just because they've always been terrible in the past doesn't mean it will always be that way, but I'm very skeptical.
The use of depth to show age is kind of a cool concept--at least there was a purpose to the 3D which is more thanI can say for many interfaces. - bmc152006, on 08/05/2008, -5/+17apparently no one cares about you complaining about people posting first.
- synystar, on 08/05/2008, -2/+13I remember when I tried to get my users to use Firefox instead of IE. Among other things, I pointed out how great tabs were. One actually said "Why would I ever want to use that? I don't like Firefox. I'm sticking with Internet Explorer"
Then IE7 came out and after she upgraded, she found that she used tabs constantly and couldn't live without them today. People may not like change, but once they adopt something they often discover how useful it can be. These features will catch on...and people will use them. - somon90, on 08/06/2008, -0/+11I think its a "Falcon 3D controller"
- Pother, on 08/06/2008, -0/+10Sure, one thumbs up for trying to imagine something reasonably possible.
I even think a lot of this is doable now.
But one thumbs down for thinking that "data" on multiple websites is going to be exposed in a common enough way to be dragged and dropped into another component, then processed and integrated.
What's going to make that possible? XML the Next Generation? Since its the future, lets just call it ODL (Open Data Language).
Hell, Microsoft will have their own unique version of it, RIIODL, (Really It Is Open Data Language), which half the websites will use because their data is coming out of Microsoft-using businesses. Most of the other half will be using 3 or 4 other versions (ODL, ebODL, GnuODL), all being created by disparate individuals or communities using PHP 12 and Apache 5. Of course Adobe will be up to ColdFusion version 15 making it easiest with the tag -cfauroradataset-.
Of course my boss will probably say all we need to make good looking public interacting websites is Microsoft Exchangepoint server with Voiceshare, which runs only on a minimum grid of 256 Midori Server Virtual Cores.
Excuse me, I'll be down at Taco Bell. - Nat3r, on 08/06/2008, -0/+7Dugg for "Aww...Cubs lost again!?"
those damn cubs, they never win - nads, on 08/05/2008, -1/+8If Kevin comes, they will tweet it.
- iblaine, on 08/06/2008, -0/+7This is like 3D cube virtual desktops on speed. Pretty neet to look at but not very practical.
- EtherGnat, on 08/06/2008, -0/+6PicLens is cool, but I'm not sure I'd call it a 3D interface. I mean, I know it's rendered in 3D, but it's still more of a 2D interface wrapped in a pretty 3D shell. There's no real depth (in the dimensional sense) to the interface. There's nothing wrong with that; laying stuff out in rows and columns is very efficient.
As soon as you start adding depth you not only increase the complexity for navigation controls you also make it more difficult to scroll through things. Good interface design generally limits you to scrolling in one direction (or better no scrolling at all). Scrolling in two dimensions is a pain, and three is a nightmare.
I'm not sure we'll ever see a good 3D desktop interface, but I'd love to be proven wrong. - onext1, on 08/06/2008, -1/+7Reminds me of the Future Shock Apple concept http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcYrPkFe2J0
- Vorsuc, on 08/06/2008, -2/+8The clusters are a riot, 'now where is it' ... exactly, good luck finding anything in that mess or relying on the software to correctly identify 'related' information.
And beyond the accessories, what there could be considered 'conceptual', nearly all of it can be done and is being done today to a lesser extent. The animation and collaberation tools would have been swish 5 years ago, but it all looks so 'normal' now. Where's the innovation, the ideas, the creativity? - Torx, on 08/06/2008, -1/+7Is this a video game or 360 dashboard?
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+6of children in his basement, if his calm voice is anything to judge
