An Absolute Goldmine of Web Design Education
cre8pc.com — "There is an incredible resource that some of you may not be aware of, that I wish to share."
- 1808 diggs
- digg it
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -9/+52Wow, what a horribly bad example of site design that page is. Maybe it should read what its linking...
- halikar, on 10/12/2007, -51/+10Wow, what an incredibly subjected observation to make. Maybe you should learn to accept more ways of doing things than your own opinion...
- BenSerwa, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31Nope, sorry. Sometimes ugly is ugly.
- Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -11/+12I'm with Ben, that's ugly as hell.
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24yeah, that one isn't going to Prom anytime soon..
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2yep...ugly. Needs new fonts and better use of white space at least
- j0c1f3r, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Just horrible.....
- jinglee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This brings us to the end of the debate, "Do diggers get paid to dig or not?"
- NoLeafClover, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I wouldn't say it is ugly...I would just ya know, euphemize (i like to make up conjugations) a little bit and say that it isn't pretty.
That's what my mom used to say when I was in the stroller.
"Oh, no no, that wasn't an accident, yes yes, I realize I shouldn't have smoked while he was in the womb...that thing on his face? oh...just his nose, we're jewish, he'll grow into it around never. He's not UGLY, he just...isn't....pretty."
See, sure I've just taken the long route to say ugly, but I did it in the most sensitive way possible. :) - Darkyuubi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wow...I don't care how big a goldmine that thing is. If it takes me 10 minutes to figure out where north is on that site, forget it =/
- standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i would say bad design and being unattractive are two seperate things.
i would agree that this site could do better for looks (especially with the top banner) but in terms of usability, layout, use of white space and deifned blocks of conent it's a very good design.
but I guess it is missing bright colors and gradients everywhere that passes for "good design"
- kriegs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+48Direct link to the site he's linking to: http://www.d.umn.edu/itss/support/Training/Online/webdesign/
- gameguy43, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24do not hit the digg link, it's blogspam. be sure to hit the link in parent^
- wphj, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Shut up, he found it, explained it, and gave links to each section. Let it slide.
- jbright, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2What a loser... trying to steal hits from a University site.
This is the REAL link: http://www.d.umn.edu/itss/support/Training/Online/webdesign/
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5WOW. (to the parent link). This is very useful to me, thanks.
- Browzer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I also like http://localhost80.com/ . In addition to tech info, there are links to resources for writing, generating traffic, and other non-tech subjects that are important when creating websites.
- mediamanbkk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
- codenexus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8... Yep, but making sure your page will render properly in all browsers is in the hands of the designer... :)
- jinglee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ok, go and behold
- lwilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
That's just something ugly people say...
- randyandy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1web-designers < java programmers < c/c++ programmers. where the hell are the operating systems coders on digg.
more web foo, seo foo, web/bubble 2.0...***** pansies!
pah.....!- Grimboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Making operating systems?
- codenexus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wow try and validate the html... ouch...
- AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Note to submitter: Quantity does not always equal quality.
- Templeofjava, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Crap....
- Moebaca, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1woww that is sooo sooo ***** up!
- Flegg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3urgh this must have been submitted by the guy who owns the site
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Wow, another crappy blog linking to a site full of links and lists PHP as the only web programming language. Sure have seen a lot of these submitted lately. They have a "Best Web Design Site 3v4r!!!1" blogspam generator out there somewhere?
- darksheer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2buried...diggbait.
- CrackWilding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There comes a point at which a list just becomes too large to be useful.
- cre8pc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I apologize to the University. When I blogged on their resource, it was for my target readers. It never occurred to me that someone would Digg it and subsequently, a round of comments would follow attacking the site I wrote about. Comments are closed on my blog, due to the spam that followed exposure to Digg.
- aliensito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sure the site might not have the most beautiful visual design, but its organized well, and provides very well structured material for design+development. What I find most impressive is that it comes from an University-- most universities are very behind when it comes to "Web Science", although MIT and a college in the UK are making those majors... perhaps they have easily available content for that too?
- MillionsLivio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0It's rather humorous that he's posting "web design education" yet his website goes against and breaks many "unspoken rules" of web design, like the all white backround that he's using without using a contrasting color.
http://TheBluePanda.com - dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I didn't go to the site to expect beauty, I wanted info, useful info, and I found it. Dugg! The rest of you who think you can do a better job, design one! Sheesh!
- ray42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Update: At last count, this blog post was dugg 890 times. It was submitted by someone else and subsequently, the spam comments, both here and at Digg, have been incredible. I am no fan of Digg. Never have been. This experience and the comments left here just add to my contempt for a place where people act like wild animals instead of human beings.
Comments are closed. However, I have left intact the only authentic one.

Could Have Been a bit thankful. - bfaulk04, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2buried because the guy who owns the blog is one of the biggest sounding ***** i've ever come across.
- BigJuiceMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1what a ***** wanker
- topcataj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, listen to you muppets.
Someone links to a resource they found that they liked (and I'd rather have good content with a not so fancy design, than a fancy design and crap content anyday) and you're slagging them off?
Linking to a resource site and talking about it a bit is blog spam? Really, funny guys, you slag off 'him', saying it's blog spam, and trying to 'steal hits' from the other site?
Err, hello, not everyone writes content for the group of monkeys who frequent the comments section of Digg articles. First off, the blog is not written by a man, secondly they did not submit the site to Digg, thirdly, they did not try and game Digg, or pay people to get it Dugg, you all did that yourselves, and lastly, just because you don't like the design, doesn't mean the content isn't good. Not everyones trying to appeal to wannabe web designers or elitest idiots who think they know everything. Some people like to converse with people who actually put a bit of thought into what they do, are interested in learning.
The owner of the blog is one of the biggest sounding assholes ever? How the hell can you manage to come to that conclusion from a blog post genuinely pointing to what they felt was a useful resource?
I pity the people who class you lot as valuable users of this site, I'll go back to Reddit, at least it's a bit more civilised there, and not so full of arrogant retards.- akinder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm on your wave, I'm pretty damn sick of Digg and the community, it's gone from being a nice place to get news ( aside from Slashdot ), to a community full of idiotic teenagers. I think I'll head back to Slashdot for a while.
Digg is coming to a city (and computer) near you! Check out all the details on our
