- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The word "amazing" gets tossed around a lot here in digg submissions. Here, it's actually true. Those are some of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen, period. I just wish they had 1280x1024 wallpaper sized versions!
- Lumbage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone know how i might go about getting my hands on hard copies of these? I want to have one blown up and framed
THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL
and to all you stereotyping, closed minded, brainwashed bigots......Have a nice life. I hope you one day see the error of your ways when it isnt too late. - lamprey187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2why do people whine about photoshop alterations? Don't you realize almost every photo in every magazine is altered. Before digital cameras, photos were airbrushed to remove imperfections. Some people here are tards. Cool pics btw.
- i3rilliant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The photographer is Feng Jiang. With a quick search I found his page at the University of York in the UK. You can also see the China photos via the "My Album" link. No larger sizes, but perhaps someone could request that he post wallpaper-sized versions.

Basic freedoms? I could ask that of anyone living under the Bush regime. - Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1these are awesome shots, i wish i had these in widescreen wallpaper sizes.. very beautiful.
- vendo, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Gorgeous. Wish had some details on where taken. And how we can visit those places.
- fjaus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok, see a real china here
http://www.enjoychina.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=181&forum=14 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That first one is amazing, like the land is in slices.
Hard to imagine that is the land that made google censor it's results.,
heh. - hakase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most photos are shot in Guilin, a beautiful city near my hometown.
- mmcvey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, now I'm from Iowa and I've seen a lot of terraced farmland in my life, but that ***** is impressive.
- DoubtfulSalmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh yeah, I should add that I visited China for the first time in my life just six months ago. It's a truly amazing place. Without exception, every single pre-conception I had about China was absolutely wrong. I can't wait to get back there, it's a fantastic place.
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1China really is an amazing place to visit. Somehow people from United States don't like to go there...
ask 10 westerner tourists in China and 9 of them will be Europeans.
really, people from the US, you should go and broaden your horizons...try Shanghai first. - fuzheado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2To Geomon (and theprez) - I don't think I saw it mentioned, but most, if not all, of those pictures are from Guilin in Guangxi province, which is just northeast of Vietnam, so the limestone karst peaks look very similar. Great shots.
- kamizu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can assure most of you that these were not computer generated images. The images posted by usmarinesjz are obviously CG and could only fool a 7 year old. I've seen a few landscapes almost as pristine as this, namely in Mexico, Puerto Rico and on my own island of CuraƧao in the Caribbean, and I know several photographers who are truly skilled, and lucky, who have photographed scenes like this.
Having said that, however, I will admit that these images were edited and altered, obviously. More specifically, they were edited with ACDSee. Anyone with an Opera browser can simply right click the image and select Image Properties. It will show the date and time it was edited and which application was used to edit it.
Finally thank you rani for mentioning where these photos were taken. I'd love to visit the area someday. I'll probably combine it with a Hong Kong visit given how (relatively) close it is.
There are more pics on http://www.guilinchina.net/photo/index.htm for those who care. - XxN3RDC0R3xX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, nolobe, you are a true idiot.
- KoZo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we also have some rice terraces here... cool though if i could see it with my own two eyes..
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now, if i can play wow while sitting there.. my vacation would be complete
- definiteform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wheres backgrounds kthx :(
- rumor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0simply breathtaking
- GreenStop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool.
But the major chinese cities are so congested with smog you cant see the sky :( - superdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome. dugg. i live here but i've never taken the time to go see those kinds of rural areas. maybe i should!
- jun9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In case any one would like to see these places in person.
Most of the pictures here are taken in Guangxi province of South China.
The Rice terraces pictures are shot in Yongsheng county, rest of them along the Li River near Guiling city (and Yangshuo). - ki6amd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, yeah, that was posted by "theangryblog.com" aka: tomtom72@yahoo.com
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Absolutely beautiful: the landscape and the photography. In few of those photos is almost looks like another planet....
- deut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree, best link of the week. Excellent find. Would I have ever stumbled upon this without digg - unlikely.
Truly amazing pics. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. I wanna live in China.
- vaxguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG....*drools all over keyboard and mouse*
- ki6amd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Amazing" you STOLE... Read towards the bottom of the page...
"These pictures may have been posted by Archimedes, but he certainly isn't the photographer. Has no one on the net heard of copyrights? You have to ask permission to reproduce. And the least you can do is get your facts straight and mention the name of the person who deserves the credit. In this case: Feng Jiang, reachable at jf19780910@yahoo.com ." - chericbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To turn real photos into artificial-looking scenes like these you use the levels control (legitimate) then over-use the saturation and contrast controls. It would be great to see what these places really look like, without the excessive Photoshop treatment. Even if the originals were this vivid there's no way it's what the scenes actually looked like - it's easy to use Photoshop to tone down excessive saturation and contrast.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow those are really stunning photos... but at what cost to the basic freedoms their citizens are denied?
- JohnyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I doubt these photographs are edited as kamizu said above. In fact I don't believe one needs to be a 'professional' in order to take photographs such as these. As an amateur photographer I can tell you that a half-assed camera with a fish-eye lens and even an inkling as to how to compose a good picture... and presto. Good photographs are quite simple to take given the right beauty around you... and I must say that you'd be hard pressed to take a 'bad' picture in this location. These are very good pictures... but the area takes 90% of the credit. 10% goes to the dude who pressed the button. ;)
ps: I especially dislike it when people refer to themselves as 'ace photographers'. I hope he was joking. - X111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"No matter what chinese government has done, at least they don't intrude others. "
I don't think Taiwan or Tibet to name 2 share that sentiment.
Gorgeous pics though, photoshopped or not. - robotplague, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are absolutely incredible.
- M@TT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow pretty amazin
- PBz13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can you Google these?
Seriously, my gf spent some time over therea and she never stops talking about how beautiful that country is. She loved it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Walt Disney heard of these hidden beauties and got permission from the Chinese government back in the 50's and 60's to film China's diverse landscapes in 360 degrees. The result was first shown in Disneyland and an updated version is shown at the Chinese pavillion at EPCOT. It's a bit dated but a must see.
- EasY_TargeT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amazing photos, best I've ever seen of china
- psbp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with the above post. It won't last to much longer. China is growing very rapidly and they will build on all those open spaces. Hopefully they will preserve some of the land.
- Boyblundr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Terrace farming is so amazing and innovative.... and it offers for some beautiful landscapes.
- kirakun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, China looks so ... um ... foreign. LOL. Never knew there could be landscape like that. Almost feels like from a Final Fantasy kinda games.
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've already seen the playb.. Oh, that China...
- rani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The pics are from GuiLin and LongJi. Been there in October - it's truely amazing.
