- ani-pockdotnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Next up: Alarm clock with gun threatens to shoot if user does not wake up.
- vodkamattvt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why not have some self control and just get up. A cheaper method to generate adrenaline to wake yourself up would be to punch yourself in the face as hard as you can when you hear the alarm. Cheap and effective!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's another link with some more info (and links): http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/move-over-mit-the-blowfly-alarm-clock-is-here-141731.php .
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not recommended for vietnam veterans, SERIOUSLY!!!!
- kyle90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2darkamn05: "you guys are stupid, how about you try putting your alarm clock on the other side of the room? DUH!"
I do that. However after about three days I developed the uncanny ability to get up, walk over to it, turn it off, and go back to bed, all without waking up.
What I really need is a clock hooked up to an IV drip; when it's time to wake up it jolts me with a few ccs of pure adrenaline... - brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahahah this is cool... i'd get one for sure if it does actually come out in north america
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ahh! No! The ceiling fan!
- Moose_Head, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That kind of reminds me of that ball game they play in Harry Potter.
Wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a bunch of blowflys and keep them in a time released box? - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And what if the helicopter suddenly stops working?
- rebz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love how people are getting mad and calling this BS. It's called a "prototype".
- Digg360, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would slap that thing out of the sky KING KONG style, if I wasnt ready to get up.
- bnolsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If this plays "Flight of the Valkyries" then I'm sold.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there actually is an alarm that you have to solve a puzzle to turn it off, pretty cool idea. it scrambles every time so that its different.
- sulestis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gonna digg this just because i'm half asleep and that just looks awesome to me right now
- Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so where do i buy it?
right now i've got a 300 watt work light hanging over my bed, and when my alarm goes off, it turns on the light. works pretty well... - illfollowyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0kinda cool. but nerfdude's idea sounds like sun-burn waitin to happen.
- Insipid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0am I the only one whose never heard of a "Blowfly"?
- Gavin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats the last thing i need.
- Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've found a guaranteed way to get up on time, doesn't need fancy technology.
Get yourself a needy dog who needs to be fed at 7am.
I haven't gotten up later than 8am for an entire week. - Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0illfollowyou: yeah, i wouldn't suggest using this after drinking heavily or anything. but it usually wakes me up within a couple minutes. beats the hell out of being woken up immediately by a screeching alarm clock, only to hit snooze over and over until i'm late :D
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Not recommended for vietnam veterans, SERIOUSLY!!!!"
Funny sh*t. Headline next day: Man kills wife after alarm clock goes off. - DJB31st, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it is only a Design prototype..
It doesn't actually work :-(
really cool, but probably not gonna ever be produced :-(
Where would it get enough power from to make a noise and fly whilst waiting for you to get up and catch it? not to mention the power required to ensure it doesn't hit your ceiling, windows, eye. - OakLawnTek1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bariswheel posted "what a cocktease"
what were you planning to do with the propeller....
Awesome prank....switch this alarm with a regular alarm when or bother, sister, or fried is sleeping. - techmonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0first clocky...and now this.
My idea of the best alarm clock is - stick a wire to your wrist or your forhead that sends mild electric shocks at desired time. - bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what a cocktease, no video
- Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember, this is a design web site. It is not a engineering site, how much do you want to bet it couldn't fly?
Its not stablised, nor does it have big enough blades. No chance that could fly. I know this from my R/C helicopter collection. - Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't believe it flys. No in-flight pictures.
- coldfireonice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ya see that there flying contraption over there billy bob? well you see you take your gun and aim and fire. k?
- joselinadam, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0Hi I am joselinadam,
A regular alarm clock is a simple sound alarm that beeps, shrieks, rings, or buzzes at a time. But shake awake Vibrating alarm clock which makes a sound with a vibrating at the particular time frame.
Please visit: http://shakeawake.com to know more - Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Also, I much prefer to hook a timer to this for my alarm clock:
http://www.wordpress.tokyotimes.org/?p=702 - mezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't imagine this thing not running into anything and destroying itself.
"Makes loud explosion! One use only!" - covrigel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can just picture it "The helicopter cut off my finger!"
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great for those busy fugitives that are always on the run.
- elfhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool, does anyone know how much they cost?
- murusaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I need one of these
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd buy one just to f**k with my dogs. They would absolutely freak.
- skwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would be just the thing for a crook who is a light sleeper worrying about a raid in the middle of the nite
- blakemara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks awesomely sw33t, but also oh so unfortunatly, awesomely expensive...:(
- bigmrjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What if you have a ceiling fan??
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bzzzzzz *thunk* ........ zz..zzzz
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a newly designed hammer that I invented that automatically beats dumbass designers on the head when they propose stupid things.
(it works too, I have the lumps to prove it!) - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about after I kick that thing across the room? I think there should be an alarm bracelet. You could wear it and it vibrates like a phone or gives you a tinny shock to wake you up. That way, you wake up without disturbing your partner.
Eric Wilson - FuManchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Clever gadget that is not necessary.
Anyone who can't train her/himself to get up at a certain time in the AM on a regular basis, should go to a reputable hypnotist. 1 or 2 hypnotic sessions and you won't even need a clock by your bed. Your subconscious can keep time to within 2-3 minutes [or better] overnight, easily.
You were *born* with the right hardware -- all you need is to install the right software. - bobetr, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0it actually seems like a good idea as long as it can learn not to chop itself up in my ceiling fan.
- BIllyBobFett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A prototype works, this doesn't. This is just an idea by a designer, not an engineer, with no attempt at making it work. IMO, news articles should make sure a device works before they start telling MIT to move over.
- nzeeshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahaha this is sooo cool .. nice alarm clock. what if the helicopter crashes?
i loved the first comment by anti-pockdotnet - Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The design of the base for this thing is horrid. Looks like a dog bowl with orange goop dripping out.
- lijn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is almost nothing one cannot learn to do while sleeping... I can find a clocky while sleeping, I can turn off alarms while sleeping, I can have conversations while sleeping.
I should be able to catch a minicopter while sleeping. i was definitely aple to smash mosquitos while living at the equator for a couple of months. Sleeping.
Seriously. Any device that promises to wake me up in the morning is gonna attract me like a bear to honey. But really, if I have an important meeting in the morning, I ask my boss to phone me. After all, he's responsible for me functioning well, anyway :-) - Muzical84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0See, what I need is a hand to actually reach out of the laptop and physically pull me to awakeness. This might help, though. =-P
- xmylox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0blowfly is the original dirty rapper
