- arof, on 10/12/2007, -9/+103Most of these images look like they were improved by the use of Adobe® Photoshop® software.

- alexf, on 10/12/2007, -29/+99Seriously, where are the widescreens? This is discrimination!

.zip file of all 96 images, about 50 megs - jdh24, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37many of them looked spectacular as previews, but some of the full size ones weren't as great. fuzzy and pixelated.
- justnick, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36thought about it. Nothing wrong with it. Saying "desktop wallpaper" is correct.
A desktop is not just the wallpaper. The wallpaper is the image displayed in the background which is why it is also known as a desktop background. The desktop includes everything you see, from the wallpaper to the icons to the task bar, among other things. This has been a lesson in computers 101. Thank you.
You may pick apart my comment for bad grammar and comma splices if you like. - braditude101, on 10/12/2007, -18/+36hey everyone, digg me down too!
- niradg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22great pics, but none of them are 16x9 :-(
- ButterBuddha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22the lack of cleavage is disappointing....
- bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Everyone has widescreen monitors now.... sorry.
Here are two that I swear by:
desktopography.net
interfacelift.com
Haven't seen anything better than those since. - laplacian, on 10/12/2007, -11/+281600x1200? weak.
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15How did the image of an iPod make it in to this list of otherwise breathtaking wallpapers?
Also, these images are HORRIBLY compressed. Look at any one of them close up, they are blurry as hell. - omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17A lot of these look like they have smart blur applied to them. The pictures are incredible, no question, but it bugs me some.
- Jaroki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'm not entirely sure why my comment is being dugg down. Pete Joison's artwork is awesome and no, I'm not Pete Joison. The wallpapers (~56) come in a variety of resolutions, from 1024x768 to 1920x1200. Direct link: http://www.blurburger.com/dt/desktops/
- Scyth3, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21These are some of the nicest wallpapers I've come across. Many thanks to the photographer's and graphic artists.
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Crop it you morons.
- SpeKopuZ, on 10/12/2007, -11/+21http://www.desktopography.net/ has much better wallpapers
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Many of them look like they've been scaled up to be 1600x1200. But if stuff like that doesn't bother you, download away.
- po43292, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10or 16x10 :(
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No chicks laying across riced-out Integra? Buried.
- Tr3vor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5screw you and your registration for download
- chaos386, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5cypher35, that's because some of them are actually 1024x768 images scaled up to 1600x1200 and then run through a sharpen filter. The end result is muddy details and weird edges around everything.
I admit they look breathtaking when you view them as thumbnails, but for wallpapers, I'd much rather browse a place like deviantart or gnome-look instead. Just my two cents. - imacsaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wikimedia Commons is great for finding good landscapes and just in general big pictures to use as wallpapers.
This is my current wallpaper from there:

And here are the pictures of the day, they're usually very good:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Picture_of_the_day - PopeAmadeus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Good luck managing the Digg effect, i could only look at a few wallpapers but the ones I saw were astounding.
- fluffyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"they've been gathering since 1994"
And apparently they are still using the same digital camera they started with.. - boozedrinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Some aren't THAT great.....this one looks like it was taken with a cheap Walgreens digital camera:
http://www.socksoff.co.uk/00001/page01/Sky1_1600.jpg
Overall great stuff though. - crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If they've been going since 1994, it wouldn't make sense for them to all be 1600x1200.
- randyrandall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Widescreen, people! COME ON!
- NavySeal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Madness? Discrimination? Macro? THIS IS DIGG! GET IT RIGHT!
- lastinginfinity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone else think that the iPod one seems really out of place among all those nature pics?
- misterS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3whois says: Registered on: 10-Mar-2005
the website says: [when] It first went live on 12th June 2004 with just a small collection of links, and has grown into what it is today, still a small collection of links ;)
the submitter says: they've been gathering since 1994
choose your pick ;) - Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh. I thought this was Caketown.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah.. I never thought I'd be saying this.. but 'only' 1600x1200? : (got new monitors)
- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Ok where is the person that bitches about a picture section? Can't be a good post without that screaming queen.
- InstantABS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The images I saw were nice but I don't seem them spectacular...Just nice, high resolution pics...Nothing more, IMHO.
- lowryba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I use www.digitalblasphemy.com
- pHr34kY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like them. I especially like the Mount Buller one because I go skiing there quite often... however because of the drought I haven't seen that much snow on it for quite a while.
- po43292, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2have to register? meh
- Flarup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3too bad about the low resolutions.
- samoht625, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2interesting. apparently, he is just really good at photoshopping stuff. er, "enhancing images using Adobe Photoshop"...
before: http://static.sxc.hu/b/ba/basmensink/318154_1847.jpg
after: http://www.socksoff.co.uk/00001/page05/California9_1600.jpg - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you look really close, there's a bench behind those JPEG artifacts.
- television, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some nice one's but if your gonna get really fussy (like they apparently are) why the hell did that picture of St Andrews get in there.. Its got a power cable right across the photo!
- hugejimmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some look like vistas but still worth checking
- Jook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:( Way to low res for my monitor. Can run two of those vertically!(2560x1600). Someone already mentioned Interfacelift.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The locations, conditions, and compositions are good but the resolution of the cameras used were too low to be comfortably scaled to 1600x1200 resolution. The Dunes photo looks as if it was taken with a 1 megapixel camera.
- GrimReeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yay for having been snowboarding to Mt Buller
- MeltingIce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great wallpapers, but the site could use some better organization and a sort by rating/downloads option.
- AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm you're right. I'll give him that. I'd like some insight into his approach.
- jatenate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you can get a new wallpaper automatically every day from WallpaperCuts.com
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ONE Woman...... I guess that what I think is beautiful isn't the same as this person...
Of all the things on Gaea, the most beautiful is our women.....
I rest my Case!!!!!!
